It situates Indian trade and governance policies within a broader Asian and global context. Focussing on India’s North-East, in particular on India’s Look and Act East Policy, the volume underscores how logistical governance in the region can bring economic and political transformations. It explores the projected development of the North-East into a gateway of transformative cultural interaction among people, just as the Silk Road became a conduit for Buddhism to travel along with musical instruments and tea. Comprehensive and topical, this book will be useful for scholars and researchers of political studies, international relations, governance studies, development studies, international trade and economics and for think tanks working on South and Southeast Asia.

Book excerpt: This research paper studies the portrayal of social unrest in Northeast India as depicted in the literary works of three prominent authors from the region: EasterineKire, TemsulaAo, and MitraPhukan. The novels selected for analysis include "A Terrible Matriarchy" by EasterineKire, "These Hills Called Home (Stories from a War Zone)" by TemsulaAo, and "The Collector's Wife" by MitraPhukan. The study aims to shed light on the multifaceted dimensions of social unrest, drawing from the rich cultural tapestry and historical context of Northeast India. The paper employs a comparative approach to analyze the narratives and themes that emerge in these literary works. It explores how each author's unique perspective and storytelling techniques contribute to our understanding of the complex issues of insurgency, conflict, displacement, and identity crisis that have characterized the Northeastern region of India. Through an in-depth examination of the characters, settings, and plotlines, this research paper uncovers the nuances of social unrest and its far-reaching impact on individuals, families, and communities within the context of Northeast Indian society.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book studies the various dimensions of gender inequality that persist in higher education and employment in India. It presents an in-depth analysis of the complex challenges women face in higher education participation and in translating higher education opportunities into labour market success and into leadership positions, including in academia. It argues that despite substantial progress towards gender equality in enrolment, these inequalities act as barriers to realising the transformative role that higher education can have for women’s well-being and for the nation’s development. The volume looks at the issues that keep women from accessing the areas of their choice, and the challenges they face in leadership positions in higher education. An important critique of higher education policy and planning, the volume will be of interest to teachers, students and researchers of education, public policy, political science and international relations, economics, feminism, women’s studies, gender studies, law and sociology. It will also be useful for academicians, policymakers and anyone interested in the study of gender in Indian Higher Education.
