Book excerpt: Cette étude est consacrée à l'hydratation de différentes argiles : vermiculite trioctaédrique, hectoritite, beidellite, montmorillonites, montronite et kaolinite. Ces sept minéraux de taille, de composition et d'arrangement variés ont été chacun saturé par les quatre cations : Na, K, Mg et Ca. Les 28 échantillons ainsi préparés ont été chauffés à 110ʻC, tamisés à 125 æm et étudiés sans qu'aucun travail de recherche de pureté n'ait été entrepris. Après saturation à l'eau selon le protocole établi par Kamel, les minéraux argileux ont été soumis à une déshydratation isotherme qui a permis d'établir les surfaces spécifiques à l'eau, les diagrammes de pores et les énergies d'hydratation. L'interprétation de l'hydratation s'appuie sur un modèle structural de distribution des cations et de l'eau dans les espaces interfoliaires.
