Book excerpt: This book is written to shed some light on our spiritual life. This critical part of life is getting pushed back in our minds due to surrounding cultures and religions. Mainly due to the speed of online information overload. Our life is more focused on the gains in this world. Our life is entirely focused on today and not on the impact of our actions in the future and afterlife, if you believe there is one. The goal is to put what is being preached and sold in the world in simple words. What is being practiced and offered for how to live our lives, and what should be the drivers? There are multiple forces at work here, each trying to push its agenda and culture/beliefs. I am sure they all think their thought process is correct, and all other thoughts are missing the point. The goal may also be a worldly one, to influence and dominate the world with their way of thinking about judging what is right and wrong. The purity of the goal may be lacking. Some may not be thinking of the betterment of humanity. What criteria are available to us for use? First, there is atheism, agnosticism, religions that propagate the existence of multiple deities, religions that offer no Gods, Scientology, etc. Then, there is Islam which is the belief in a single creator and provides answers to many questions that one may have.

Some revert to a relativism that allows different 'truth's' for different people, but this is incoherent. This Element argues that monotheism has provided the basis for a belief in objective truth. Human understanding is fallible and partial, but without the idea of one God, there is no foundation for a belief in one reality or a common human nature. The shadow of monotheism lies over our understanding of science, and of morality.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even in pagan antiquity, there were those who, while participating in the community's religious life, did not believe in literal gods. In the centuries that followed the Christian domination of the West, the epithet "godless pagan" was leveled at a wide variety of people. In the 1960s, there emerged a community of people who sought to reclaim the name "pagan" from its history of opprobrium. These Neo-Pagans were interested in nature spirituality and polytheism, and identified with the misunderstood and persecuted pagans of antiquity. While many Pagans today believe in literal gods, there are a growing number of Pagans who are "godless." Today, the diverse assemblage of spiritual paths known as Paganism includes atheist Pagans or Atheopagans, Humanistic and Naturalistic Pagans, Buddho-Pagans, animists, pantheists, Gaians, and other non-theistic Pagans. Here, their voices are gathered together to share what it means to be Pagan and godless.

Book excerpt: How new is atheism? Although adherents and opponents alike today present it as an invention of the European Enlightenment, when the forces of science and secularism broadly challenged those of faith, disbelief in the gods, in fact, originated in a far more remote past. In Battling the Gods, Tim Whitmarsh journeys into the ancient Mediterranean, a world almost unimaginably different from our own, to recover the stories and voices of those who first refused the divinities. Homer’s epic poems of human striving, journeying, and passion were ancient Greece’s only “sacred texts,” but no ancient Greek thought twice about questioning or mocking his stories of the gods. Priests were functionaries rather than sources of moral or cosmological wisdom. The absence of centralized religious authority made for an extraordinary variety of perspectives on sacred matters, from the devotional to the atheos, or “godless.” Whitmarsh explores this kaleidoscopic range of ideas about the gods, focusing on the colorful individuals who challenged their existence. Among these were some of the greatest ancient poets and philosophers and writers, as well as the less well known: Diagoras of Melos, perhaps the first self-professed atheist; Democritus, the first materialist; Socrates, executed for rejecting the gods of the Athenian state; Epicurus and his followers, who thought gods could not intervene in human affairs; the brilliantly mischievous satirist Lucian of Samosata. Before the revolutions of late antiquity, which saw the scriptural religions of Christianity and Islam enforced by imperial might, there were few constraints on belief. Everything changed, however, in the millennium between the appearance of the Homeric poems and Christianity’s establishment as Rome’s state religion in the fourth century AD. As successive Greco-Roman empires grew in size and complexity, and power was increasingly concentrated in central capitals, states sought to impose collective religious adherence, first to cults devoted to individual rulers, and ultimately to monotheism. In this new world, there was no room for outright disbelief: the label “atheist” was used now to demonize anyone who merely disagreed with the orthodoxy—and so it would remain for centuries. As the twenty-first century shapes up into a time of mass information, but also, paradoxically, of collective amnesia concerning the tangled histories of religions, Whitmarsh provides a bracing antidote to our assumptions about the roots of freethinking. By shining a light on atheism’s first thousand years, Battling the Gods offers a timely reminder that nonbelief has a wealth of tradition of its own, and, indeed, its own heroes.

Book excerpt: The book discusses atheism, the concept of denial of God, and why people become atheists. Polytheism, the worship of multiple Gods, is discussed and compared with monotheism, the worship of one God. The book discusses the myth of the cross and provides evidence from the Bible that Jesus was not crucified. The book argues that all heavenly religions, from Noah to Muhammad, can be called Islamic. Moses and Jesus were also Muslims because they submitted themselves to God. Islam means submission, and all prophets of God were Muslims. The Quran challenged all mankind to come together and help each other produce the equivalent of this Quran. The Quran has also been preserved from the very day it was revealed until now, and it has not been changed, which is also evidence that the Quran is a revelation from God. Islam is not a new religion. It has five pillars of faith, also found in the Bible. This book shows that Muhammad is the last Prophet to all mankind. So, all people must believe in God and His Messenger, the unlettered Prophet Muhammad, to attain salvation hereafter. Prophet Muhammad has confirmed that Jesus, during his second coming, will follow Islam.

Book excerpt: Why do religious people believe what they shouldn't -- not what others think they shouldn't believe, but things that don't accord with their own avowed religious beliefs? D. Jason Slone terms this phenomenon "theological incorrectness." He argues that it exists because the mind is built in such a way that it's natural for us to think divergent thoughts simultaneously. Human minds are great at coming up with innovative ideas that help them make sense of the world, he says, but those ideas do not always jibe with official religious beliefs. From this fact we derive the important lesson that what we learn from our environment -- religious ideas, for example -- does not necessarily cause us to behave in ways consistent with that knowledge. Slone presents the latest discoveries from the cognitive science of religion and shows how they help us to understand exactly why it is that religious people do and think things that they shouldn't.

Book excerpt: Because we do not see God, because we do not know the future, because the hereafter is unseen, and because those who go to the grave do not return; atheism has spread, materialistic ideas have prevailed, people have worshipped themselves and succumbed to their desires, and fought over the benefits of the world, thinking that there is nothing beyond this life, and nothing after death. The major countries have fought over the gold of the earth and its riches, and disbelief has its theories, materialism its philosophies, denial its warriors, and the deniers have a Kaaba to which they cling, and to which they make pilgrimages back and forth, a Kaaba they call: "Science". In this context came this dialogue with my atheist friend, addressing topics of determinism and choice, resurrection, destiny, and judgment; this book attempts to solve these puzzles from the standpoint of established science, philosophy, Quranic indications, and belief in God.

Book excerpt: Wisdom, Justice, and Unconditional Love ¿These days, Muslims are facing all kinds of problems: persecution by different governments, violence among Muslim sects, women's suppression, mass migration, and more. Many Muslims have contradictory behavior: they reject modern industrialization and education but depend on modern conveniences. Even the purity of Islamic monotheism itself is at stake. Guided by the wisdom of the Quran, this book defines many contemporary problems faced by Muslims and provides solutions. For example, the Quran strongly condemns zulm (oppression) and uses the word zulm a whopping 291 times to discourage it. So, on what grounds, can any Muslim support various oppressions, like preventing women from acquiring education and employment? This book also discusses:¿How to peacefully end radical Islamic violence.¿How Muslim men and women can ideologically respond to oppression by fellow Muslims.¿How to bring peace between Muslims sects.¿Without calling anyone kafir, how to peacefully preserve the purity of Islamic monotheism.Sufi literature, accumulated over centuries, proves that loving Allah is the most satisfying spiritual experience. The book describes how to unconditionally love Allah and how to unconditionally love yourself. Islam puts overwhelming emphasis on love and justice. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) achieved the first major peaceful transfer of power in history. This was when he took over as the head of state of Medina, even though it was a multi-religious society. On another occasion, instead of waging violent jihad, he proposed the Treaty of Hudaybia and made peace with the opponents. The unique concept of Islamic monotheism also solves philosophical puzzles like the free will-predestination paradox and the watchmaker analogy.
