Download or read book Ancient Medicine written by Vivian Nutton and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-11-17 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third edition of this magisterial account of medicine in the Greek and Roman worlds, written by the foremost expert on the subject, has been updated to incorporate the many new discoveries made in the field over the past decade. This revised volume includes discussions of several new or forgotten works by Galen and his contemporaries, as well as of new archaeological material. RNA analysis has expanded our understanding of disease in the ancient world; the book explores the consequences of this for sufferers, for example in creating disability. Nutton also expands upon the treatment of pre-Galenic medicine in Greece and Rome. In addition, subtitles and a chronology will make for easier student consultation, and the bibliography is substantially revised and updated, providing avenues for future student research. This third edition of Ancient Medicine will remain the definitive textbook on the subject for students of medicine in the classical world, and the history of medicine and science more broadly, with much to interest scholars in the field as well.
Book Synopsis Sinope, The Results of Fifteen Years of Research. Proceedings of the International Symposium, 7-9 May 2009 by : Dominique Kassab Tezgör
Download or read book Sinope, The Results of Fifteen Years of Research. Proceedings of the International Symposium, 7-9 May 2009 written by Dominique Kassab Tezgör and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-10-06 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Sagalassos I written by Marc Waelkens and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sagalassos, once the metropolis of the Western Taurus range (Pisidia, Turkey), was only thoroughly surveyed in 1884 and 1885 by an Austrian team directed by K. Lanckoronski. In 1986-1989 this work was resumed by a British-Belgian team co-directed by Dr. Stephen Mitchell (University College of Swansea) and by Prof. Dr. Marc Waelkens (Catholic University of Leuven). In 1990 Sagalassos became a full scale Belgian project and a leading center for interdisciplinary archaeological and archaeometrical research. Due to its altitude, the site is one of the best preserved towns from classical antiquity, with a rich architectural and sculptural tradition dating from the second century BC to the sixth century AD. From early Imperial times until the early Byzantine period a complete range of coarse and red slip wares was produced locally. Excavations are concentrated on the upper and lower agoras to document the political and commercial life in the town and also in the area where a late Hellenistic fountain house, which still functions to date, and a Roman library were discovered. Major efforts are undertaken to restore the excavated monuments in their old glory. Several disciplines integrate the town again within its ancient environment and document the central role which Sagalassos played in the area.
Download or read book A Strange Woman written by Leylâ Erbil and published by Deep Vellum Publishing. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pioneering debut novel by one of Turkey's most radical female authors tells the story of an aspiring intellectual in a complex, modernizing country. In English at last: the first novel by a Turkish woman to ever be nominated for the Nobel. A Strange Woman is the story of Nermin, a young woman and aspiring poet growing up in Istanbul. Nermin frequents coffeehouses and underground readings, determined to immerse herself in the creative, anarchist youth culture of Turkey’s capital; however, she is regularly thwarted by her complicated relationship to her parents, members of the old guard who are wary of Nermin’s turn toward secularism. In four parts, A Strange Woman narrates the past and present of a Turkish family through the viewpoints of the main characters involved. This rebellious, avant-garde novel tackles sexuality, the unconscious, and psychoanalysis, all through the lens of modernizing 20th-century Turkey. Deep Vellum brings this long-awaited translation of the debut novel by a trailblazing feminist voice to US readers.

Book Synopsis The Northern Face of Cyprus by : Lâtife Summerer
Download or read book The Northern Face of Cyprus written by Lâtife Summerer and published by Ege Yayinlari. This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is an attempt to correct the imbalance in research created by exclusion of Northern Cyprus from the international scholarship over forty years. It aims for a balanced approach on two levels: the Turkish contributions are offset by contributions from scholars of foreign origins and the contributions of established scholars by those of promising young researchers who are publishing their first papers. The volume is arranged in three thematic sections. The first one looks at the archaeology of Cyprus from the Prehistoric to the Byzantine periods and includes analytical studies, sites and monuments, new excavation results, and research history. The second section covers the Medieval and Early Modern monuments of Northern Cyprus. And the third section consists of three papers on the protection and conservation of cultural heritage of Northern Cyprus. A total of twenty-six papers are accompanied by colour illustrations in 492 pp.
