Download or read book Ion Solvation written by Y. Marcus and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1985 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chemical reactions generally take place in solution and often involve ions. The behaviour of ions in solution, manifested through ion solvation, is therefore of prime interest in chemistry. This book considers in depth the phenomenology of ion solvation and the models and interpretations that have been proposed as the physical causes for the observed phenomena. It contains a thorough discussion of the statistical thermodynamic background of the solvation process from which a discussion of the actual thermodynamics is developed. This, in turn, serves as a background to the structural and kinetic features of ion solvation.

Book Synopsis Intestinal Absorption of Metal Ions, Trace Elements and Radionuclides by : S. C. Skoryna
Download or read book Intestinal Absorption of Metal Ions, Trace Elements and Radionuclides written by S. C. Skoryna and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intestinal Absorption of Metal Ions, Trace Elements, and Radionuclides focuses on the transport of metal ions across biological membranes. The selection first discusses fundamental considerations of ion transport across biological membranes, including passage of ions through the pores of gels or membranes; mobilities of organic and inorganic ions in water; and complexing of alkali metal ions. The text then focuses on ion transport across membranes of high ionic selectivity and transmissivity and their uses in model studies; model systems for transcellular active transport; and detection and implications of active salt transport across biological membranes. The book takes a look at the intestinal absorption of sodium, calcium, and potassium, including sodium and potassium transport in the intestines; use of radioisotopes to assess intestinal flux of calcium in humans; and calcium and structure of cell membranes. The intestinal absorption of zinc, cobalt, and strontium and absorption of copper from the gastrointestinal tract are underscored. The selection is a recommendable source of data for readers interested in the transport of metal ions across biological membranes.
Book Synopsis A Liquid Chromatography Detector for Transition and Rare-earth Metal Ions Based on a Cupric Ion-selective Electrode by : Robert Cameron Dorey
Download or read book A Liquid Chromatography Detector for Transition and Rare-earth Metal Ions Based on a Cupric Ion-selective Electrode written by Robert Cameron Dorey and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A potentiometric detector sensitive to many transition and rare earth metal ions has been developed, using a cupric ion-selective electrode. The sample stream is mixed with a stream of copper(II)-ethylene-diaminetetraacetic acid complex (CuEDTA), and metal ions in the eluent displace copper(II) from the complex. The increase in free copper(II) is then measured by the electrode. Background copper(II) level in the CuEDTA stream sets the lower limit of detection of metal ions at approximately 3X10-7th power M, and the detector response characteristics require that approximately 500micro l. flow through the detector to reach steady-state response. This establishes a detection limit of 1.5X10-10th power mole metal ion. Theoretical response of the detector has been developed and the experimental values agree closely with theory for specific metals over the range 3X10-7th power M to 10-2nd power M metal ion. Both transient and steady-state response of the detector to metal ions and some common anions, including halide ions, is shown, and the advantages and limitations of the system are discussed."--Abstract.
