Book Synopsis Investigation of the Statistical Nature of the Fatigue of Metals by : G. E. Dieter
Download or read book Investigation of the Statistical Nature of the Fatigue of Metals written by G. E. Dieter and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been widely accepted recently that statisticsal methods of investigation are necessary for meaningful work in studies on the fatigue of metals. The statistical nature of the endurance limit was first demonstrated in the Metals Research Laboratory, Carnegie Institute of Technology, less than 5 years ago. A subsequent study showed that for steel the chief metallurgical variable influencing the statistical nature of the nonmetallic inclusion count.
Book Synopsis Investigation of Statistical Nature of Fatigue Properties by : E. Epremian
Download or read book Investigation of Statistical Nature of Fatigue Properties written by E. Epremian and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Extensive fatigue tests were made on annealed Armco iron and plain carbon and alloy steels heat-treated to different strengths and microstructures. Statistics of fatigue-fracture curves and endurance limits were determined from the experimental data obtained and, for various other materials, from a survey of literature. The results were analyzed to show the relative effects of various metallurgical factors on the statistical nature of fatigue properties. Other phases of the problem studied include: dependence of statistical variation in fatigue life on stress level in the fracture range, statistics for location of crack initiation, size effect, understressing effect, and the form and method of plotting the S-N diagram.

Book Synopsis Statistical Analysis of Fatigue Data by : R. E. Little
Download or read book Statistical Analysis of Fatigue Data written by R. E. Little and published by ASTM International. This book was released on 1981 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is commonly assumed in analysing fatigue data that there is a definite functional relationship between life in number of cycles and stress level. However, as has been pointed out several times (1, 2), an examination of the data shows considerable scatter. Even with carefully prepared smooth specimens, all from the same heat of steel, treated in the same manner and tested in the same laboratory, a range of 2 to 1 in number of cycles for failure at the same stress level is normal (1) and a range of 10 to 1 is not unusual (2). If the specimens are tested by different laboratories, slightly varying techniques will introduce further scatter (3).
Book Synopsis Statistics of Metal Fatigue in Engineering: Planning and Analysis of Metal Fatigue Tests by : Stefan Einbock
Download or read book Statistics of Metal Fatigue in Engineering: Planning and Analysis of Metal Fatigue Tests written by Stefan Einbock and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2018-09-28 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is often difficult to become familiar with the field of metal fatigue analysis. Among other reasons, statistics being an important one. Therefore this book focuses on the basics of statistics for metal fatigue analysis. It is written for engineers in the fields of simulation, testing and design who look for a quick introduction to the statistics of metal fatigue. This book enables you - to understand and apply the statistics for metal fatigue in engeneering - to evaluate metal fatigue test data (S-N curves and endurance limits) statistically using probability net and regression - to evaluate endurance limits with the stair case method or the probit method - to calculate safety factors for your components - to assess the impact of small sample sizes - to find and evaluate outliers statistically and - to compare samples with statistic tests like the t-Test. In order to ensure a quick understanding, this book focuses on the most important methods and is limited to the downright necessary mathematics. In addition, you will find helpful tips and experiences for a significant improvement of our learning efficiency. For a comprehensible arrangement of the content many illustrations are utilized, which represents the text. In addition to it, a simple, clear language is consciously used. In order to consolidate the understanding, the theory is also supplemented by extensive job relevant exercises. For easy application of the methods of metal fatigue in engeneering you will find useful Excel tools for your own analysis. These cover the basics of the important methods of this book and can be downloaded for free.

Book Synopsis An Experimental Investigation of Secondary Flow in an Accelerating, Rectangular Elbow with 90 Degrees of Turning by : John D. Stanitz
Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Secondary Flow in an Accelerating, Rectangular Elbow with 90 Degrees of Turning written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The passage vortex associated with secondary flows appears to be near the suction surface and away from the plane wall of the elbow at the exit and does not have appreciable spanwise motion as it moves downstream the elbow exit. As the spoiler size increases, the boundary-layer form changes and a rather sudden difference in the secondary flow occurs, perhaps associated withthe reduced importance of viscous effects in thick boundary layers. It is suggested that the strength of the secondary vortices is small and that the energy of secondary flows is small.

Book Synopsis The Statistical Behavior of Fatigue Properties and the Influence of Metallurgical Factors by : E. Epremian
Download or read book The Statistical Behavior of Fatigue Properties and the Influence of Metallurgical Factors written by E. Epremian and published by . This book was released on 1953 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now well established that the fatigue properties of metals are statistical in nature. Earlier work showed that the fatigue life is variable, and very recently it was shown for the first time that the endurance limit is statistical. Since both the fatigue life and endurance limit are subject to marked variability, these quantities cannot be stated as single values, but must be represented statistically. This fact is of scientific interest as well as practical importance. In the design of parts for service in applications which involve cyclic stresses, the engineer must, in choosing a proper factor of safety, recognize the fact that some failures can occur prematurely or even at stresses below the normally determined endurance limit. In the field of research, many of the long accepted conclusions drawn from the usual investigations can be questioned since the statistical approach, now known to be necessary, was not used.
