Book Synopsis Investigation of Separation of the Turbulent Boundary Layer by : G. B. Schubauer
Download or read book Investigation of Separation of the Turbulent Boundary Layer written by G. B. Schubauer and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted on a turbulent boundary layer near a smooth surface with pressure gradients sufficient to cause flow separation. The Reynolds number was high, but the speeds were entirely within the incompressible flow range. The investigation consisted of measurements of mean flow, three components of turbulence intensity, turbulent shearing stress, and correlations between two fluctuation components at a point and between the same component at different points. The results are given in the form of tables and graphs. The discussion deals first with separation and then with the more fundamental question of basic concepts of turbulent flow.

Download or read book Turbulent Boundary-layer Separation Induced by Flares on Cylinders at Zero Angle of Attack written by Donald M. Kuehn and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Separation caused by the pressure rise induced by flares has been experimentally investigated in the Mach number range of 1.5 to 5.0 and in the Reynolds number range (based on boundary-layer thickness) of 1.5X104 to 12X104. The purpose of the investigation was to determine the model geometry and flow conditions for which separation can be expected for a turbulent boundary layer of zero pressure gradient on the cylinder approaching the flare. Comparisons are made of the boundary-layer-separation characteristics of these three-dimensional flares with two-dimensional separation results from a previous investigation.

Book Synopsis Separation of Flow by : Paul K. Chang
Download or read book Separation of Flow written by Paul K. Chang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interdisciplinary and Advanced Topics in Science and Engineering, Volume 3: Separation of Flow presents the problem of the separation of fluid flow. This book provides information covering the fields of basic physical processes, analyses, and experiments concerning flow separation. Organized into 12 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the flow separation on the body surface as discusses in various classical examples. This text then examines the analytical and experimental results of the laminar boundary layer of steady, two-dimensional flows in the subsonic speed range. Other chapters consider the study of flow separation on the two-dimensional body, flow separation on three-dimensional body shape and particularly on bodies of revolution. This book discusses as well the analytical solutions of the unsteady flow separation. The final chapter deals with the purpose of separation flow control to raise efficiency or to enhance the performance of vehicles and fluid machineries involving various engineering applications. This book is a valuable resource for engineers.

Book Synopsis An Experimental Investigation of Regions of Separated Laminar Flow by : Donald E. Gault
Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Regions of Separated Laminar Flow written by Donald E. Gault and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Results are presented from an investigation of regions of separated flow caused by separation of the laminar boundary layer (laminar-separation "bubbles"). The investigation was undertaken to obtain measurements which would define a large number of these bubbles for a wide range of Reynolds numbers and pressure gradients. In this manner, existing physical interpretations of the flow along a bubble could be studied in greater detail than in the past and, at the same time, it was hoped that the data would provide further insight into the conditions which control the occurrence and extent of a bubble.
Book Synopsis Preliminary Investigation of the Delay of Turbulent Flow Separation by Means of Wedge-shaped Bodies by : George B. McCullough
Download or read book Preliminary Investigation of the Delay of Turbulent Flow Separation by Means of Wedge-shaped Bodies written by George B. McCullough and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of pyramidal, wedge-like bodies as devices for delaying separation of a turbulent boundary layer was undertaken. Tests of individual wedges on a large flat plate showed that, within certain limits, effective boundary-layer control could be obtained with wedges of different geometry, but that the drag of the wedges was high, making it desirable to keep the size of the wedges to a minimum.

Book Synopsis Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions by : Holger Babinsky
Download or read book Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Flows I written by F. Durst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book contains papers that have been selected from contributions to the First International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows which was held from the 18th to 20th April 1977 at The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania, USA. Attend ees from close to 20 countries presented over 100 contributions at this meeting in which many aspects of the current activities in turbulence research were covered. Five topics received particular attention at the Symposium: Free Flows Wall Flows Recirculating Flows Developments in Reynolds Stress Closures New Directions in Modeling This is also reflected in the five chapters of this book with contributions from research workers from different countries. Each chapter covers the most valuable contributions of the conference to the particular chapter topic. Of course, there were many additional good con tributions to each subject at the meeting but the limitation imposed on the length of this volume required that a selection be made. The realization of the First International Symposium on Turbulent Shear Flows was p- sible by the general support of: U. S. Army Research Office U. S. Navy Research Office Continuing Education Center of The Pennsylvania State University The conference organization was carried out by the organizing committee consisting of: F. Durst, Universitat Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe, Fed. Rep. of Germany V. W. Goldschmidt, Purdue University, West Lafayette, Ind. , USA B. E. Launder, University of California, Davis, Calif. , USA F. W. Schmidt, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Penna.
