Book Synopsis Applied Hyperfunction Theory by : Isao Imai
Download or read book Applied Hyperfunction Theory written by Isao Imai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Generalized functions are now widely recognized as important mathematical tools for engineers and physicists. But they are considered to be inaccessible for non-specialists. To remedy this situation, this book gives an intelligible exposition of generalized functions based on Sato's hyperfunction, which is essentially the `boundary value of analytic functions'. An intuitive image -- hyperfunction = vortex layer -- is adopted, and only an elementary knowledge of complex function theory is assumed. The treatment is entirely self-contained. The first part of the book gives a detailed account of fundamental operations such as the four arithmetical operations applicable to hyperfunctions, namely differentiation, integration, and convolution, as well as Fourier transform. Fourier series are seen to be nothing but periodic hyperfunctions. In the second part, based on the general theory, the Hilbert transform and Poisson-Schwarz integral formula are treated and their application to integral equations is studied. A great number of formulas obtained in the course of treatment are summarized as tables in the appendix. In particular, those concerning convolution, the Hilbert transform and Fourier transform contain much new material. For mathematicians, mathematical physicists and engineers whose work involves generalized functions.

Book Synopsis Integral Transforms and Their Applications by : B. Davies
Download or read book Integral Transforms and Their Applications written by B. Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended to serve as introductory and reference material for the application of integral transforms to a range of common mathematical problems. It has its im mediate origin in lecture notes prepared for senior level courses at the Australian National University, although I owe a great deal to my colleague Barry Ninham, a matter to which I refer below. In preparing the notes for publication as a book, I have added a considerable amount of material ad- tional to the lecture notes, with the intention of making the book more useful, particularly to the graduate student - volved in the solution of mathematical problems in the physi cal, chemical, engineering and related sciences. Any book is necessarily a statement of the author's viewpoint, and involves a number of compromises. My prime consideration has been to produce a work whose scope is selective rather than encyclopedic; consequently there are many facets of the subject which have been omitted--in not a few cases after a preliminary draft was written--because I v believe that their inclusion would make the book too long.

Download or read book The H-Function written by A.M. Mathai and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-10 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TheH-function or popularly known in the literature as Fox’sH-function has recently found applications in a large variety of problems connected with reaction, diffusion, reaction–diffusion, engineering and communication, fractional differ- tial and integral equations, many areas of theoretical physics, statistical distribution theory, etc. One of the standard books and most cited book on the topic is the 1978 book of Mathai and Saxena. Since then, the subject has grown a lot, mainly in the elds of applications. Due to popular demand, the authors were requested to - grade and bring out a revised edition of the 1978 book. It was decided to bring out a new book, mostly dealing with recent applications in statistical distributions, pa- way models, nonextensive statistical mechanics, astrophysics problems, fractional calculus, etc. and to make use of the expertise of Hans J. Haubold in astrophysics area also. It was decided to con ne the discussion toH-function of one scalar variable only. Matrix variable cases and many variable cases are not discussed in detail, but an insight into these areas is given. When going from one variable to many variables, there is nothing called a unique bivariate or multivariate analogue of a givenfunction. Whatever be the criteria used, there may be manydifferentfunctions quali ed to be bivariate or multivariate analogues of a given univariate function. Some of the bivariate and multivariateH-functions, currently in the literature, are also questioned by many authors.

Book Synopsis Integral Geometry and Radon Transforms by : Sigurdur Helgason
Download or read book Integral Geometry and Radon Transforms written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this text, integral geometry deals with Radon’s problem of representing a function on a manifold in terms of its integrals over certain submanifolds—hence the term the Radon transform. Examples and far-reaching generalizations lead to fundamental problems such as: (i) injectivity, (ii) inversion formulas, (iii) support questions, (iv) applications (e.g., to tomography, partial di erential equations and group representations). For the case of the plane, the inversion theorem and the support theorem have had major applications in medicine through tomography and CAT scanning. While containing some recent research, the book is aimed at beginning graduate students for classroom use or self-study. A number of exercises point to further results with documentation. From the reviews: “Integral Geometry is a fascinating area, where numerous branches of mathematics meet together. the contents of the book is concentrated around the duality and double vibration, which is realized through the masterful treatment of a variety of examples. the book is written by an expert, who has made fundamental contributions to the area.” —Boris Rubin, Louisiana State University

Book Synopsis The Radon Transform by : Sigurdur Helgason
Download or read book The Radon Transform written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1999-08-01 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Radon transform is an important topic in integral geometry which deals with the problem of expressing a function on a manifold in terms of its integrals over certain submanifolds. Solutions to such problems have a wide range of applications, namely to partial differential equations, group representations, X-ray technology, nuclear magnetic resonance scanning, and tomography. This second edition, significantly expanded and updated, presents new material taking into account some of the progress made in the field since 1980. Aimed at beginning graduate students, this monograph will be useful in the classroom or as a resource for self-study. Readers will find here an accessible introduction to Radon transform theory, an elegant topic in integral geometry.
