Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents findings on the past, present, and expected future performance and rehabilitation needs of the pavement on the Interstate 1-80 highway corridor that transverses northern Illinois. The results presented herein cover the time period from initial construction in the 1960's through 2015. The objective of this study is to provide information for lDOT management and engineers to assist in maintaining this critical east-west highway in operating condition and to determine the funding needed for long-term planning and programming. The results are also useful in planning a future rehabilitation strategy to minimize disruption to the traveling public.

Book Synopsis Field Performance of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement in Illinois by : Nasir G. Gharaibeh
Download or read book Field Performance of Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement in Illinois written by Nasir G. Gharaibeh and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report reviews the design and performance of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) in Illinois. Illinois has built over 4,267 two-lane km (2,650 miles) of CRCP on the Interstate system since the mid-1950s. CRCP has been constructed on nearly all urban freeways in the Chicago area and has shown excellent performance under severe weather and heavy traffic conditions. The effect of key design and construction parameters on long-term CRCP performance is investigated using a database that was compiled based on field surveys conducted from 1977 to 1994 by the Illinois Department of Transportation (I DOT). Analysis of the data shows the following variables have significant effects on performance: longitudinal reinforcement content (greatest effect of all variables), slab thickness (also very significant), traffic load applications, depth of reinforcement, base type, and 0-cracking of concrete. CRCP built with tubes or chairs exhibited overall about the same performance. Experimental field studies in Illinois showed that depth of reinforcement has a large effect on crack width and, eventually, on punchouts.

Book Synopsis Work Zones and Their Impact on User Costs by : Ghulam H. Bham
Download or read book Work Zones and Their Impact on User Costs written by Ghulam H. Bham and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report defines a work zone, its capacity, and how it is estimated. The importance of capacity is also mentioned since it is directly used in the calculation of user delay due to a work zone. The impact of delay on user costs is also discussed. A methodology is presented which relates queue delay with ADT. Queue delay due to a work zone is calculated using a plot between time, cumulative volume, and capacity. The area between the curves represents queue delay. Three software packages are evaluated for calculation of user delay and cost due to a work zone. None of them were adequate for calculating delay due to queue formation.

Download or read book Interstate 74 Quad Cities Corridor Study, Scott County, Iowa and Rock Island County, Illinois written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Iowa and Illinois Departments of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) are proposing improvements to the Interstate 74 (I-74) corridor in the Quad Cities from Avenue of the Cities (23rd Avenue) in Moline, Illinois, to 1 mile north of 53rd Street in Davenport, Iowa. The U.S. Coast Guard is a cooperating agency. The study corridor traverses the cities of Moline, Bettendorf, and Davenport and includes a crossing of the Mississippi River. Though I-74 is predominantly an east-west interstate, it is on a north-south alignment through the study corridor. As such, in this document direction of travel along I-74 is described as northbound or southbound to distinguish it from east-west traffic movement along cross roads. The I-74 study corridor is characterized by a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial development. Residential land use is present throughout the project corridor, but there are concentrations south of the commercial area in Moline and north of the commercial area in Bettendorf. Industrial land uses are mainly located along the river in Moline and Bettendorf. Parkland and open space can be found along the river in Moline and Bettendorf, and along Duck Creek in Bettendorf and Davenport. I-74 is the primary north-south roadway through the study area. As such, it carries a large amount of commuter and commercial traffic. The proposed improvements to I-74 include: Providing additional capacity on I-74; Improving the Mississippi River crossing; Improving the six existing service interchanges; Enhancing the connecting arterial roadway system; Improving opportunities for transit, bike and pedestrian, and intermodal connections.
Book Synopsis Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation by : Paul R. Donavan
Download or read book Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation written by Paul R. Donavan and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2013 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 738: Evaluating Pavement Strategies and Barriers for Noise Mitigation presents a methodology for evaluating feasibility, reasonableness, effectiveness, acoustic longevity, and economic features of pavement strategies and barriers for noise mitigation. The methodology uses a life-cycle cost analysis to examine the economic features of mitigation alternatives, the FHWA Traffic Noise Model to integrate the noise reduction performance of pavements and barriers, and on-board sound intensity measurements as an input to the prediction model. The appendixes contained in the research agency's final report provide elaborations and detail on several aspects of the research. The appendixes are not included with the print version of the report, but are available online." --Publisher description.
