Book Synopsis Handbook of Simulator-Based Training by : Eric Farmer
Download or read book Handbook of Simulator-Based Training written by Eric Farmer and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advances in simulation technology have enabled an interesting amount of training and instruction to be conducted on training simulators instead of on real systems. However, experiences with the procurement and use of training simulators has not always been as successful, often owing to a lack of knowledge of didactics and of training programme development, and also to inadequate simulator specifications. The Handbook of Simulator-based Training represents the first comprehensive overview of the European state of the art in simulator-based training. It also comprises a well-founded and systematic approach to simulator-based training and the specification of simulator requirements. The multi-disciplinary research project described in this book combines the expertise of specialists in human factors, information systems, system design and engineering from 23 research and industrial organizations from five countries - France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, the UK. The authors have synthesized and documented the project results to ensure that this handbook provides not only many valuable guidelines, but more importantly a common frame of reference. It will be a key resource for the many specialists who are concerned with simulator-based training: researchers, engineers, and users; military training institutes and training system development departments; military staff responsible for the procurement of training devices and simulators; the simulator industry; the training research community; and the human factors and ergonomics community.
Book Synopsis Learning Strategies by : Harold F. O'Neil
Download or read book Learning Strategies written by Harold F. O'Neil and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Learning Strategies describes a program of research in learning strategies initiated by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in 1976. The goal of the program is to improve learning, decrease training time, and reduce training costs by developing and evaluating instructional materials designed to teach basic intellectual and affective skills. This book records the program's progress and suggests further avenues for research. Comprised of eight chapters, this book begins with an overview of the theoretical underpinnings of the teaching and learning approaches to the improvement of education, followed by a discussion on DARPA's preliminary work on an empirically based learning-strategy training program as well as its efforts to expand and modify the program. In order to provide an intellectual foundation for this program, several fields are surveyed for potential learning strategies, namely, cognitive psychology, artificial intelligence, behavioral modification, and motor learning. An instructional systems development approach for learning strategies is also proposed. The final chapter deals with models of evaluation extant in education and training and discusses the specific application of transactional evaluation to the DARPA Learning Strategies Research Program. This monograph should be of interest to students, teachers, and educational psychologists.
Book Synopsis Needs Assessment by : Roger A. Kaufman
Download or read book Needs Assessment written by Roger A. Kaufman and published by Educational Technology. This book was released on 1979 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: The success of education and training depends on choosing appropriate problems and identifying the best solutions, and needs assessment is a tool that can achieve both. Discussion of the usefulness of needs assessment is followed by an outline of planning, the systems approach to planning, and how needs assessment relates to each. The 6 modes of needs assessment, and the relationship of inputs, processes, products, outputs, and outcomes to each type are presented. The application of these principles to school systems and curriculum development are then detailed. Two school case studies, consensual determining techniques, project and staff development, and noneducational contexts are presented.
