The future bishop Feofilakt was born on the island of Euboea, probably in the city of Chalkis. From the historical information that has come down to us, it is known that he had the surname Ifest. Apparently, he received a good education in his youth. He studied at Constantinople, the country's greatest cultural, political and educational center. It is believed that one of the teachers who greatly influenced the formation of the worldview of Theophylact as a theologian was a famous thinker, Mikhail Psell . “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.” Look: no one is justified without labor and sorrow. Therefore, the gates leading to the Kingdom of Heaven, and the Lord called narrow and tight (see Matt. 7, 13 ), that is, full of oppression. But not everyone who encounters tightness or sorrow, but sorrow because of faith in God, introduces into the Kingdom of Heaven.

Then God will help that person to live forever with Him. We should settle it in our minds that nobody who has become a child of God continues to do wrong things. Instead, the Son of God keeps them safe so that Satan cannot do anything to keep them from going to heaven. So I beg you, says John, do not put anything in this world or of this world before God.
