Book Synopsis Innovative Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies for the 21st Century by : G. H. Chen
Download or read book Innovative Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies for the 21st Century written by G. H. Chen and published by IWA Publishing (International Water Assoc). This book was released on 2000-05-31 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last third of the 20th century saw considerable development in water and wastewater treatment technologies, particularly aerobic and anaerobic biological methods. The objective of wastewater treatment also expanded from a traditional emphasis on BOD and SS removal to encompass nutrient and toxic chemical removal. This is a consequence of the increasing public awareness of environmental problems and a strong desire for a clean environment to minimize any public health risk. In the West, secondary biological processes have become standard for most waste treatment applications. However, this type of treatment can be too expensive to use in most developing and underdeveloped countries. Sometimes, as for a city like Hong Kong, there may not be sufficient land available for constructing a conventional secondary biological plant. There is thus an urgent need to develop innovative technologies that can be successfully adopted by different nations so that the global environment can be significantly improved at minimum cost. With this in mind, a symposium was organized to provide a forum for leading water and wastewater experts to exchange their visions, ideas, experiences, and accomplishments in the development of new technologies that can meet the challenge of the 21st century for the global environmental clean-up. The 21 papers selected for these proceedings cover a wide range of topics from authoritative reviews of existing water and waste treatment technologies to the development of novel physical, chemical, and biological water and wastewater treatment methods.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book coordinates outline and development of suitable innovation with basically essential issues of waste water and waste water treatment for human benefits. I likewise included point by point mechanism of water, waste water and its treatment along with innovative methods. Six major chapters have been included in this book related to (i) Introduction to the Wastewater, (ii) Wastewater Management, (iii) Waste water treatment, (iv) Important Parameters, (v) Classical Wastewater Treatment Technologies, (vi) Advancement in the Wastewater Treatment Technologies and (vii) Relationship of the environmental change impact on waste water. One objective I have is this book to target students understudies, designing experts, advancement specialists, government officials, and groups to assess, outline, estimate, design, develop, work, and keep up innovation that is socially, monetarily, and topographically suitable. I am under debt to numerous others researchers around the globe who have created comparable materials, particularly those centered in extraordinary detail on a specific theme and became helpful in producing this source of combined existing research and whom have been cited in this book. In like manner, toward the finish of every part I have provided list of references to enhance in-depth reading for the interested readers and researchers because it is a combination of existing researches. This book starts with the understanding of waste water and its management mechanism races towards waste water treatment and classical techniques to deal waste water and ends with the advances to deal with the waste water for human benefits. Si it provides a link for bingers and advance researchers to idealize and understand the conceptual dealing of waste water and environmental impact with reference to waste water.

Book Synopsis Innovative Wastewater Treatment & Resource Recovery Technologies: Impacts on Energy, Economy and Environment by : Juan M. Lema
Download or read book Innovative Wastewater Treatment & Resource Recovery Technologies: Impacts on Energy, Economy and Environment written by Juan M. Lema and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 690 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces the 3R concept applied to wastewater treatment and resource recovery under a double perspective. Firstly, it deals with innovative technologies leading to: Reducing energy requirements, space and impacts; Reusing water and sludge of sufficient quality; and Recovering resources such as energy, nutrients, metals and chemicals, including biopolymers. Besides targeting effective C,N&P removal, other issues such as organic micropollutants, gases and odours emissions are considered. Most of the technologies analysed have been tested at pilot- or at full-scale. Tools and methods for their Economic, Environmental, Legal and Social impact assessment are described. The 3R concept is also applied to Innovative Processes design, considering different levels of innovation: Retrofitting, where novel units are included in more conventional processes; Re-Thinking, which implies a substantial flowsheet modification; and Re-Imagining, with completely new conceptions. Tools are presented for Modelling, Optimising and Selecting the most suitable plant layout for each particular scenario from a holistic technical, economic and environmental point of view.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It was intended to return with the International Gothenburg Symposia every other time to the birthplace of these events, Gothenburg in Sweden. But instead the 8th symposium has been invited to be organized and held in Prague, i. e. in the midst of Central and Eastern Europe a region now keen on intensified environmental control. This attests that the symposia have attained such standing in the interna tional world of operators, designers, officers and researchers in water treatment technology that their presence in various parts of the world has been requested. And this ever growing significance, in short the success of this conference series, stems form the fact that the symposia offer a unique platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences on all aspects of water and wastewater treatment between administrators, engineers and scientists. The content of this book, i. e. the schedule of the symposium lectures, results for the most part from a vast response to an international call for papers. Many excellent contributions are included in this volume but at the same time many outstanding ones could not be included for lack of time and space. The total sum of these contributions document again the development in the field, both in terms of new technological (and other) developments as well as public and administrative acceptance and approval of solutions offered.
