Download or read book Bubbly Flows written by Martin Sommerfeld and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 354 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarises the outcom of a priority research programme: 'Analysis, Modelling and Computation of Multiphase Flows'. The results of 24 individual research projects are presented. The main objective of the research programme was to provide a better understanding of the physical basis for multiphase gas-liquid flows as they are found in numerous chemical and biochemical reactors. The research comprises steady and unsteady multiphase flows in three frequently found reactor configurations, namely bubble columns without interiors, airlift loop reactors, and aerated stirred vessels. For this purpose new and improved measurement techniques were developed. From the resulting knowledge and data, new and refined models for describing the underlying physical processes were developed, which were used for the establishment and improvement of analytic as well as numerical methods for predicting multiphase reactors. Thereby, the development, lay-out and scale-up of such processes should be possible on a more reliable basis.

Book Synopsis The Constitutionalization of International Law by : Jan Klabbers
Download or read book The Constitutionalization of International Law written by Jan Klabbers and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2011-04-07 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book examines one of the most debated issues in current international law: to what extent the international legal system has constitutional features comparable to what we find in national law. This question has become increasingly relevant in a time of globalization, where new international institutions and courts are established to address international issues. Constitutionalization beyond the nation state has for many years been discussed in relation to the European Union. This book asks whether we now see constitutionalization taking place also at the global level. The book investigates what should be characterized as constitutional features of the current international order, in what way the challenges differ from those at the national level and what could be a proper interaction between different international arrangements as well as between the international and national constitutional level. Finally, it sketches the outlines of what a constitutionalized world order could and should imply. The book is a critical appraisal of constitutionalist ideas and of their critique. It argues that the reconstruction of the current evolution of international law as a process of constitutionalization -against a background of, and partly in competition with, the verticalization of substantive law and the deformalization and fragmentation of international law- has some explanatory power, permits new insights and allows for new arguments. The book thus identifies constitutional trends and challenges in establishing international organisational structures, and designs procedures for standard-setting, implementation and judicial functions. This paperback edition features the authors' discussion of this book on the EJIL Talks blog.
Book Synopsis Global Report on the Biology, Fishery and Trade of Precious Corals by : Food and Agriculture Organization
Download or read book Global Report on the Biology, Fishery and Trade of Precious Corals written by Food and Agriculture Organization and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2019-08-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document has been prepared by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in accordance with a request from CITES (CoP Decision 17.191 on Precious corals, for consideration at the 30th meeting of the Animals Committee). The report concerns precious (red, pink, white and black) coral species within the hexacoral order Antipatharia, and the octocoral family Coralliidae. According to the requirements of CITES Decision 17.191, the study considers all available data and information on the biology, population status, use and trade in each species, including the identification of gaps in such data and information. It contains information on the management and harvest regulation schemes for these coral species, with the aim of considering the effectiveness of their management and conservation. The report intends to inform the CITES parties of the status of the management and trade of precious corals, in order to provide guidance on the actions needed to enhance the conservation and sustainable use of precious corals.
Book Synopsis The Cambridge Companion to International Law by : James Crawford
Download or read book The Cambridge Companion to International Law written by James Crawford and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-26 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This intellectually rigorous introduction to international law encourages readers to engage with multiple aspects of the topic: as 'law' directing and shaping its subjects; as a technique for governing the world of states and beyond statehood; and as a framework within which several critical and constructivist projects are articulated. The articles situate international law in its historical and ideological context and examine core concepts such as sovereignty, jurisdiction and the state. Attention is also given to its operation within international institutions and in dispute settlement, and a separate section is devoted to international law's 'projects': protecting human rights, eradicating poverty, the conservation of resources, the regulation of international trade and investment and the establishment of international order. The diverse group of contributors draws from disciplinary orientations ranging from positivism to postmodernism to ensure that this book is informed theoretically and politically, as well as grounded in practice.

Book Synopsis Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows by : Guan Heng Yeoh
Download or read book Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows written by Guan Heng Yeoh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2009-10-07 with total page 658 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mixed or multiphase flows of solid/liquid or solid/gas are commonly found in many industrial fields, and their behavior is complex and difficult to predict in many cases. The use of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) has emerged as a powerful tool for the understanding of fluid mechanics in multiphase reactors, which are widely used in the chemical, petroleum, mining, food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. Computational Techniques for Multiphase Flows enables scientists and engineers to the undertand the basis and application of CFD in muliphase flow, explains how to use the technique, when to use it and how to interpret the results and apply them to improving aplications in process enginering and other multiphase application areas including the pumping, automotive and energy sectors. - Understandable guide to a complex subject - Important in many industries - Ideal for potential users of CFD
