Book Synopsis New Antiepileptic Drugs by : Francesco Pisani
Download or read book New Antiepileptic Drugs written by Francesco Pisani and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1991 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pharmacological fight against epilepsy began many centuries ago when Hippocrates discovered that the cause of epilepsy is natural, as opposed to supernatural and, as a consequence, must be treated with a natural remedy. Even though science has significantly progressed since that era, the challenge to find remedies for epilepsy is ever present. The aim of this particular volume is to offer an up-to-date review of the most recent advances in antiepileptic drug development, considered from various viewpoints: (i) general, by taking into account the size of refractory epilepsy and its related problems; (ii) experimental, by exploring the mechanisms of epileptogenesis and the possiblility of influencing it through drugs, and (iii) clinical, by describing the results obtained with compounds currently at an advanced stage of testing.
Book Synopsis Innovations in Biomedical Engineering by : Marek Gzik
Download or read book Innovations in Biomedical Engineering written by Marek Gzik and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-31 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the latest developments in the field of biomedical engineering and includes practical solutions and strictly scientific considerations. The development of new methods of treatment, advanced diagnostics or personalized rehabilitation requires close cooperation of experts from many fields, including, among others, medicine, biotechnology and finally biomedical engineering. The latter, combining many fields of science, such as computer science, materials science, biomechanics, electronics not only enables the development and production of modern medical equipment, but also participates in the development of new directions and methods of treatment. The presented monograph is a collection of scientific papers on the use of engineering methods in medicine. The topics of the work include both practical solutions and strictly scientific considerations expanding knowledge about the functioning of the human body. We believe that the presented works will have an impact on the development of the field of science, which is biomedical engineering, constituting a contribution to the discussion on the directions of development of cooperation between doctors, physiotherapists and engineers. We would also like to thank all the people who contributed to the creation of this monograph—both the authors of all the works and those involved in technical works.
Book Synopsis Inflammatory and Autoimmune Disorders of the Nervous System in Children by : Russell C. Dale
Download or read book Inflammatory and Autoimmune Disorders of the Nervous System in Children written by Russell C. Dale and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-01-19 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inflammatory disorders of the nervous system, although individually uncommon, collectively make up 10-20% of acute paediatric neurology presentations and many are potentially treatable. Research into them is lagging behind adult research, but better diagnosis and often simple treatments could lead to substantial clinical benefit and reduction in long-term disability. This book provides a detailed and comprehensive summary of the childhood diseases that are, or are likely to be, caused by the immune system. The authors not only describe these disorders and their treatments comprehensively, helping pediatricians and pediatric neurologists to improve their understanding and recognition of the conditions, but also highlight recent and exciting developments that will be of considerable importance in the future.

Importantly, the book emphasizes that tinnitus is not one disease but a group of rather diverse disorders with different pathophysiology, different causes and, consequently, different treatments. This comprehensive title is written for clinicians and researchers by clinicians and researchers who are active in the field. It is logically organized in six sections and will be of interest to otolaryngologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, neurosurgeons, primary care clinicians, audiologists and psychologists. Textbook of Tinnitus describes both the theoretical background of the different forms of tinnitus and it provides detailed knowledge of the state-of-the-art of its treatment. Because of its organization and its extensive subject index, Textbook of Tinnitus can also serve as a reference for clinicians who do not treat tinnitus patients routinely.

Book Synopsis Night Noise Guidelines for Europe by : Charlotte Hurtley
Download or read book Night Noise Guidelines for Europe written by Charlotte Hurtley and published by WHO Regional Office Europe. This book was released on 2009 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The WHO Regional Office for Europe set up a working group of experts to provide scientific advice to the Member States for the development of future legislation and policy action in the area of assessment and control of night noise exposure. The working group reviewed available scientific evidence on the health effects of night noise, and derived health-based guideline values. In December 2006, the working group and stakeholders from industry, government and nongovernmental organizations reviewed and reached general agreement on the guideline values and key texts for the final document of the "Night noise guidelines for Europe". Considering the scientific evidence on the thresholds of night noise exposure indicated by "Lnight, outside" [L suffix night, outside] as defined in the Environmental Noise Directive (2002/49/EC), an Lnight, outside of 40 dB should be the target of the night noise guideline (NNG) to protect the public, including the most vulnerable groups such as children, the chronically ill and the elderly. "Lnight, outside" value of 55 dB is recommended as an interim target for the countries where the NNG cannot be achieved in the short term for various reasons, and where policy-makers choose to adopt a stepwise approach. These guidelines are applicable to the Member States of the European Region, and may be considered as an extension to, as well as an update of, the previous WHO "Guidelines for community noise" (1999).
