Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international conference entitled "New Trends in Approximation Theory" was held at the Fields Institute, in Toronto, from July 25 until July 29, 2016. The conference was fondly dedicated to the memory of our unique friend and colleague, André Boivin, who gave tireless service in Canada until his very last moment of his life in October 2014. The impact of his warm personality and his fine work on Complex Approximation Theory was reflected by the mathematical excellence and the wide research range of the 37 participants. In total there were 27 talks, delivered by well-established mathematicians and young researchers. In particular, 19 invited lectures were delivered by leading experts of the field, from 8 different countries. The wide variety of presentations composed a mosaic of aspects of approximation theory, highlighting interesting connections with important contemporary areas of Analysis. Primary topics discussed include application of approximation theory (isoperimetric inequalities, construction of entire order-isomorphisms, dynamical sampling); approximation by harmonic and holomorphic functions (especially uniform and tangential approximation), polynomial and rational approximation; zeros of approximants and zero-free approximation; tools used in approximation theory; approximation on complex manifolds, in product domains, and in function spaces; and boundary behaviour and universality properties of Taylor and Dirichlet series.

This book was released on 2019-12-02 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The monograph addresses some problems particularly with regard to ill-posedness of boundary value problems and problems where we cannot expect to have uniqueness of their solutions in the standard functional spaces. Bringing original and previous results together, it tackles computational challenges by exploiting methods of approximation and asymptotic analysis and harnessing differences between optimal control problems and their underlying PDEs
Book Synopsis Korovkin-type Approximation Theory and Its Applications by : Francesco Altomare
Download or read book Korovkin-type Approximation Theory and Its Applications written by Francesco Altomare and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-07-21 with total page 641 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The series is devoted to the publication of monographs and high-level textbooks in mathematics, mathematical methods and their applications. Apart from covering important areas of current interest, a major aim is to make topics of an interdisciplinary nature accessible to the non-specialist. The works in this series are addressed to advanced students and researchers in mathematics and theoretical physics. In addition, it can serve as a guide for lectures and seminars on a graduate level. The series de Gruyter Studies in Mathematics was founded ca. 30 years ago by the late Professor Heinz Bauer and Professor Peter Gabriel with the aim to establish a series of monographs and textbooks of high standard, written by scholars with an international reputation presenting current fields of research in pure and applied mathematics. While the editorial board of the Studies has changed with the years, the aspirations of the Studies are unchanged. In times of rapid growth of mathematical knowledge carefully written monographs and textbooks written by experts are needed more than ever, not least to pave the way for the next generation of mathematicians. In this sense the editorial board and the publisher of the Studies are devoted to continue the Studies as a service to the mathematical community. Please submit any book proposals to Niels Jacob.

Download or read book Recent Developments in Optimization Theory and Nonlinear Analysis written by Yair Censor and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1997 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the special session on Optimization and Nonlinear Analysis held at the Joint American Mathematical Society-Israel Mathematical Union Meeting which took place at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in May 1995. Most of the papers in this book originated from the lectures delivered at this special session. In addition, some participants who didn't present lectures and invited speakers who were unable to attend contributed their work. The fields of optimization theory and nonlinear analysis continue to be very active. This book presents not only the wide spectrum and diversity of the results, but also their manifold connections to other areas, such as differential equations, functional analysis, operator theory, calculus of variations, numerical analysis, and mathematical programming. In reading this book one encounters papers that deal, for example, with convex, quasiconvex and generalized convex functions, fixed and periodic points, fractional-linear transformations, moduli of convexity, monontone operators, Morse lemmas, Navier-Stokes equations, nonexpansive maps, nonsmooth analysis, numerical stability, products of projections, steepest descent, the Leray-Schauder degree, the turnpike property, and variational inequalities.

Book Synopsis Anniversary Volume on Approximation Theory and Functional Analysis by : P. L. Butzer
Download or read book Anniversary Volume on Approximation Theory and Functional Analysis written by P. L. Butzer and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 1984-01-01 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These Proceedings include 42 of the 49 invited conference papers, three papers sub mitted subsequently, and a report devoted to new and unsolved problems based on two special problem sessions and as augmented by later communications from the participants. In addition, there are four short accounts that emphasize the personality of the scholars to whom the proceedings are dedicated. Due to the large number of contributors, the length of the papers had to be restricted. This volume is again devoted to recent significant results obtained in approximation theory, harmonic analysis, functional analysis, and operator theory. The papers solicited include in addition survey articles that not only describe fundamental advances in their subfields, but many also emphasize basic interconnections between the various research areas. They tend to reflect the range of interests of the organizers and of their immediate colleagues and collaborators. The papers have been grouped according to subject matter into ten chapters. Chap ter I, on operator theory, is devoted to certain classes of operators such as contraction, hyponormal, and accretive operators, as well as to suboperators and semi groups of operators. Chapter II, on functional analysis, contains papers on function spaces, algebras, ideals, and generalized functions. Chapter III, on abstract approximation, is concerned with the comparison of approximation processes, the gliding hump method, certain inter polation spaces, and n-widths.
