Book Synopsis International Boundaries in a Global Era by : Lawrence A Herzog
Download or read book International Boundaries in a Global Era written by Lawrence A Herzog and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As we move deeper into the twenty-first century, the forces of globalisation continue to transform both the spaces around international borders, and the social processes, cultural practices, economies, and political dynamics within and between these spaces. The geographies of border regions have undergone a dramatic transformation over the last half century; nation-state boundaries growing ever more porous in many (though not all) areas of the planet. Global trade has become an accepted norm in business transactions almost everywhere. Coupled with the revolution in digital technology, the era of globalisation promises to continue to challenge old ideas, with new approaches to understanding international boundaries and the regions they impact. All of the chapters in this book, mainly drawn from the US-Mexico border (with comparisons to Europe), speak to the ways in which border regions have become important places in their own right, spaces where people live, work, and create art, where corporations invest, where crimes occur, and where security remains a concern. They are, therefore, spaces that need to be better understood and managed, especially in light of the cross-national and global forces impinging upon them. This book was originally published as a special issue of Global Society.

Book Synopsis International Frontiers and Boundaries by : J. R. John Robert Victor Prescott
Download or read book International Frontiers and Boundaries written by J. R. John Robert Victor Prescott and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2008 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International frontiers and boundaries separate land, rivers and lakes subject to different sovereignties. Frontiers are "zones" of varying widths and they were common many centuries ago. By 1900 frontiers had almost disappeared and had been replaced by boundaries that are lines. The divisive nature of frontiers and boundaries has formed the focus of inter-disciplinary studies by economists, geographers, historians, lawyers and political scientists. Scholars from these disciplines have produced a rich literature dealing with frontiers and boundaries. The authors surveyed this extensive literature and the introduction reveals the themes which have attracted most attention. Following the introduction the book falls into three sections. The first section deals systematically with frontiers, boundary evolution and boundary disputes. The second section considers aspects of international law related to boundaries. It includes chapters dealing with international law and territorial boundaries, maps as evidence of international boundaries and river boundaries and international law. The third section consists of seven regional chapters that examine the evolution of boundaries in the Americas, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, islands off Southeast Asia and Antarctica.

Book Synopsis International Boundaries by : Ewan W. Anderson
Download or read book International Boundaries written by Ewan W. Anderson and published by Stationery Office. This book was released on 2003 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In its simplest terms, a state comprises an organised population and a defined territory delimited by international boundaries. Control over these boundaries is a key measure of effective sovereignty, and they define the recognised limits of government authority as well as exercising a strong psychological influence. In the post-Cold War era, despite the development of organisations such as the EU and the growing trend towards globalisation, international boundaries have become more rather than less important. Approximately three in every four conflicts is concerned, whether directly or indirectly, with boundary issues. Written by an international expert on geopolitics, this publication provides assessments and maps for every currently recognised international state in the world and their dependencies, giving detailed descriptions of the international land and, where applicable, maritime boundaries. It also includes the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, the main components of the proposed new state of Palestine. Each entry considers factors relevant to the stability of the state's boundaries, providing an overall evaluation of national boundary vulnerability.

Book Synopsis International Law and the Protection of Namibia's Territorial Integrity by : S. Akweenda
Download or read book International Law and the Protection of Namibia's Territorial Integrity written by S. Akweenda and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International law is not static; it develops constantly. Namibia is classic case, illustrating the changing law of nations. International Law and the Protection of Namibia's Territorial Integrity: Boundaries and Territorial Claims demonstrates this with an analysis of the legal and factual elements present in the creation, boundaries and territorial claims of Namibia, and the determinations of the League of Nations and the political organs of the United Nations which developed and clarified the rules of international law. Nambia's unique international status and diplomatic history requires the consideration of a large number of different topics within public international law. Some of these issues are very complex and technical, as they involve major questions of international law and politics. Through the use of primary sources, case law, state practice and the opinions of eminent jurists, the author addresses these challenging and revealing issues. Anyone interested in public international law, international relations, political science, history, or geography will appreciate the way that this work covers the interesting and informative changes in this revealing nation.
