Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus (Revised Edition) by : Lynn Harold Loomis
Download or read book Advanced Calculus (Revised Edition) written by Lynn Harold Loomis and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 595 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds.

Book Synopsis A Short Course in Intermediate Microeconomics with Calculus by : Roberto Serrano
Download or read book A Short Course in Intermediate Microeconomics with Calculus written by Roberto Serrano and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-30 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook for an intermediate level course in microeconomics that uses calculus throughout. Most of the competition either uses no calculus or relegates the math to footnotes and appendices. The text also focuses on theory rather than empirical data. To motivate the analysis, the authors include references to real events and firms, with no distracting separate boxes.
Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus by : Patrick Fitzpatrick
Download or read book Advanced Calculus written by Patrick Fitzpatrick and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2009 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Advanced Calculus is intended as a text for courses that furnish the backbone of the student's undergraduate education in mathematical analysis. The goal is to rigorously present the fundamental concepts within the context of illuminating examples and stimulating exercises. This book is self-contained and starts with the creation of basic tools using the completeness axiom. The continuity, differentiability, integrability, and power series representation properties of functions of a single variable are established. The next few chapters describe the topological and metric properties of Euclidean space. These are the basis of a rigorous treatment of differential calculus (including the Implicit Function Theorem and Lagrange Multipliers) for mappings between Euclidean spaces and integration for functions of several real variables."--pub. desc.

Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus, An Introduction To Mathematical Analysis by : Samuel Zaidman
Download or read book Advanced Calculus, An Introduction To Mathematical Analysis written by Samuel Zaidman and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997-08-05 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to mathematical analysis (i.e real analysis) at a fairly elementary level. A great (unusual) emphasis is given to the construction of rational and then of real numbers, using the method of equivalence classes and of Cauchy sequences. The text includes the usual presentation of: sequences of real numbers, infinite numerical series, continuous functions, derivatives and Riemann-Darboux integration. There are also two “special” sections: on convex functions and on metric spaces, as well as an elementary appendix on Logic, Set Theory and Functions. We insist on a rigorous presentation throughout in the framework of the classical, standard, analysis.
Book Synopsis An Introduction to Multivariable Mathematics by : Leon Simon
Download or read book An Introduction to Multivariable Mathematics written by Leon Simon and published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers. This book was released on 2008-07-08 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text is designed for use in a forty-lecture introductory course covering linear algebra, multivariable differential calculus, and an introduction to real analysis. The core material of the book is arranged to allow for the main introductory material on linear algebra, including basic vector space theory in Euclidean space and the initial theory of matrices and linear systems, to be covered in the first ten or eleven lectures, followed by a similar number of lectures on basic multivariable analysis, including first theorems on differentiable functions on domains in Euclidean space and a brief introduction to submanifolds. The book then concludes with further essential linear algebra, including the theory of determinants, eigenvalues, and the spectral theorem for real symmetric matrices, and further multivariable analysis, including the contraction mapping principle and the inverse and implicit function theorems. There is also an appendix which provides a nine-lecture introduction to real analysis. There are various ways in which the additional material in the appendix could be integrated into a course--for example in the Stanford Mathematics honors program, run as a four-lecture per week program in the Autumn Quarter each year, the first six lectures of the nine-lecture appendix are presented at the rate of one lecture per week in weeks two through seven of the quarter, with the remaining three lectures per week during those weeks being devoted to the main chapters of the text. It is hoped that the text would be suitable for a quarter or semester course for students who have scored well in the BC Calculus advanced placement examination (or equivalent), particularly those who are considering a possible major in mathematics. The author has attempted to make the presentation rigorous and complete, with the clarity and simplicity needed to make it accessible to an appropriately large group of students. Table of Contents: Linear Algebra / Analysis in R / More Linear Algebra / More Analysis in R / Appendix: Introductory Lectures on Real Analysis

Book Synopsis Advanced Calculus by : R. Creighton Buck
Download or read book Advanced Calculus written by R. Creighton Buck and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2003-12-30 with total page 633 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Demonstrating analytical and numerical techniques for attacking problems in the application of mathematics, this well-organized, clearly written text presents the logical relationship and fundamental notations of analysis. Buck discusses analysis not solely as a tool, but as a subject in its own right. This skill-building volume familiarizes students with the language, concepts, and standard theorems of analysis, preparing them to read the mathematical literature on their own. The text revisits certain portions of elementary calculus and gives a systematic, modern approach to the differential and integral calculus of functions and transformations in several variables, including an introduction to the theory of differential forms. The material is structured to benefit those students whose interests lean toward either research in mathematics or its applications.
