This book focuses on the use of radionuclides in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases. It describes relevant approved and investigational clinical applications, instrumentation & technology, chemistry and practical clinical issues in nuclear oncology. The basic science and current research topics of nuclear oncology are addressed in separate chapters. Nuclear medicine has become an essential component to all phases of the management of the patient with a malignant tumor and in some cases, even benign neoplasms. The standard of practice for many tumors requires PET/CT imaging at various stages of diagnosis and management. In addition to clinical applications, ongoing investigational efforts, which more and more involve multi-institutional protocols, are also presented. Features: • Focuses on the use of radionuclides in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant diseases • Emphasizes SPECT/CT and PET/CT with additional emphasis on the potential application of PET/MR • Describes relevant approved and investigational clinical applications, instrumentation & technology, chemistry and practical clinical issues in nuclear oncology

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group III-Nitrides semiconductor materials, including GaN, InN, AlN, InGaN, AlGaN and AlInGaN, i.e. (Al, In, Ga)N, are excellent semiconductors, covering the spectral range from deep ultraviolet (DUV) to UV, visible and infrared, with unique properties very suitable for modern electronic and optoelectronic applications. Remarkable breakthroughs have been achieved in recent years for research and development (R&D) in these materials and devices, such as high-power and high brightness UV-blue-green-white light emitting diodes (LEDs), UV-blue-green laser diodes (LDs), photo-detectors and various optoelectronics and electronics devices and applications. The Nobel Prize in Physics 2014 was awarded jointly to Isamu Akasaki, Hiroshi Amano and Shuji Nakamura 'for the invention of efficient blue light-emitting diodes which has enabled bright and energy-saving white light sources'. Red and green diodes had been invented since 1960s-70s but without blue LED. Despite considerable efforts, the blue LED had remained a challenge for a long time. The success and inventions on GaN-based LEDs were revolutionary and benefiting for mankind. III-Nitrides-based industry has formed and acquired rapid developments over the world. Incandescent light bulbs lit the 20th century and the 21st century will be lit by LED lamps. Before this book, the editor has edited two books, III-Nitride Semiconductor Materials (2006) and III-Nitride Devices and Nanoengineering (2008), both published by ICP/WSP, in the fields of III-Nitride. The developments of these materials and devices are moving rapidly. Many data or knowledge, some even just published only recently, have been modified and needed to be upgraded. This new book, III-Nitride Materials, Devices and Nano-Structures as the third instalment, will cover the rapid new developments and achievements in the III-Nitride fields, particularly those made since 2009.

This book was released on 2014-07-08 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for gravitational radiation with optical interferometers is gaining momentum worldwide. Beside the VIRGO and GEO gravitational wave observatories in Europe and the two LIGOs in the United States, which have operated successfully during the past decade, further observatories are being completed (KAGRA in Japan) or planned (ILIGO in India). The sensitivity of the current observatories, although spectacular, has not allowed direct discovery of gravitational waves. The advanced detectors (Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo) at present in the development phase will improve sensitivity by a factor of 10, probing the universe up to 200 Mpc for signal from inspiraling binary compact stars. This book covers all experimental aspects of the search for gravitational radiation with optical interferometers. Every facet of the technological development underlying the evolution of advanced interferometers is thoroughly described, from configuration to optics and coatings and from thermal compensation to suspensions and controls. All key ingredients of an advanced detector are covered, including the solutions implemented in first-generation detectors, their limitations, and how to overcome them. Each issue is addressed with special reference to the solution adopted for Advanced VIRGO but constant attention is also paid to other strategies, in particular those chosen for Advanced LIGO.

Book excerpt: The world’s fresh water supplies are dwindling rapidly—even wastewater is now considered an asset. By 2025, most of the world's population will be facing serious water stresses and shortages. Aquananotechnology: Global Prospects breaks new ground with its informative and innovative introduction of the application of nanotechnology to the remediation of contaminated water for drinking and industrial use. It provides a comprehensive overview, from a global perspective, of the latest research and developments in the use of nanotechnology for water purification and desalination methods. The book also covers approaches to remediation such as high surface area nanoscale media for adsorption of toxic species, UV treatment of pathogens, and regeneration of saturated media with applications in municipal water supplies, produced water from fracking, ballast water, and more. It also discusses membranes, desalination, sensing, engineered polymers, magnetic nanomaterials, electrospun nanofibers, photocatalysis, endocrine disruptors, and Al13 clusters. It explores physics-based phenomena such as subcritical water and cavitation-induced sonoluminescence, and fog harvesting. With contributions from experts in developed and developing countries, including those with severe contamination, such as China, India, and Pakistan, the book’s content spans a wide range of the subject areas that fall under the aquananotechnology banner, either squarely or tangentially. The book strongly emphasizes sorption media, with broad application to a myriad of contaminants—both geogenic and anthropogenic—keeping in mind that it is not enough for water to be potable, it must also be palatable.
