Book excerpt: DES ETUDES RECENTES ONT REVELE L'IMPORTANCE DES NON-LINEARITES LORS DE L'INTERACTION DE DIFFERENTS SYSTEMES D'ONDES DE SURFACE. DANS CE TRAVAIL, NUMERIQUE ET EXPERIMENTAL, NOUS NOUS PROPOSONS DE CARACTERISER PLUS PRECISEMENT LES EFFETS DES NON-LINEARITES DANS TROIS TYPES DE CAS PARTICULIERS : - L'INTERACTION D'ONDES SOLITAIRES (D'AMPLITUDES EGALES OU DIFFERENTES) - L'INTERACTION DE TRAINS D'ONDES COURTES (IDENTIQUES OU DIFFERENTS) - L'INTERACTION D'UN TRAIN D'ONDES COURTES AVEC UNE ONDE SOLITAIRE. NOUS DISPOSONS D'UN CANAL BI-DIMENSIONNEL, EQUIPE D'UN BATTEUR A CHAQUE EXTREMITE. IL S'AGIT, A NOTRE CONNAISSANCE, D'UN EQUIPEMENT UNIQUE QUI NOUS A PERMIS DE REALISER DES ESSAIS ORIGINAUX. LES MESURES ONT ETE EFFECTUEES A L'AIDE DE SONDES RESISTIVES, D'UN ANEMOMETRE LASER ET D'UN CAPTEUR DE PRESSION. NOUS AVONS EFFECTUE LA SIMULATION NUMERIQUE DE CHACUNE DE NOS MESURES A L'AIDE DE DEUX CODES. LE PREMIER EST FONDE SUR L'HYPOTHESE D'UN ECOULEMENT POTENTIEL (FLUIDE PARFAIT). IL UTILISE LA METHODE DES SINGULARITES. LE SECOND RESOUT LES EQUATIONS DE NAVIER-STOKES POUR L'ECOULEMENT CONSIDERE. EN CE QUI CONCERNE L'INTERACTION DE DEUX ONDES SOLITAIRES, IL EXISTE DES ETUDES ANALYTIQUES. NOS TRAVAUX NUMERIQUES ET EXPERIMENTAUX EN CONFIRMENT LA VALIDITE. MAIS, IL NOUS A ETE POSSIBLE D'ETENDRE CES ETUDES ET D'EN OBTENIR DE NOUVEAUX RESULTATS QUI METTENT BIEN EN EVIDENCE DES EFFETS NON LINEAIRES QUI AFFECTENT LA VITESSE DES PARTICULES FLUIDES ET LE CHAMP DE PRESSION. DANS LE CAS DES INTERACTIONS D'ONDES COURTES, NOUS AVONS PU OBTENIR DES RESULTATS ORIGINAUX RELATIFS AU RETARD DE PHASE ATTRIBUE A CHACUN DES GROUPES DE VAGUES. L'ETUDE DE L'INTERACTION D'UNE ONDE SOLITAIRE AVEC UN TRAIN D'ONDES COURTES N'A PU SE FAIRE QUE NUMERIQUEMENT. NOUS AVONS IDENTIFIE LES CARACTERISTIQUES NON-LINEAIRES DU PHENOMENE ET VERIFIE, POUR LA PREMIERE FOIS, QUELQUES RESULTATS ANALYTIQUES. LA PARTIE EXPERIMENTALE DE CETTE ETUDE A NECESSITE QUE NOUS RESOLVIONS DE NOMBREUX PROBLEMES PRATIQUES LIES A LA GENERATION EN LABORATOIRE D'ONDES BI-DIMENSIONNELLES DE QUALITE ET A LA MESURE DE LEURS DIVERSES CARACTERISTIQUES

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

These appear almost everywhere in nature from sand bed forms to brain patterns, and yet their understanding still presents fundamental scientific challenges. The reader will learn here, in particular, about the current state-of-the art and new results in: Nonlinear water waves: resonance, solitons, focusing, Bose-Einstein condensation, as well as and their relevance for the sea environment (sea-wind interaction, sand bed forms, fiber clustering) Pattern formation in non-equilibrium media: soap films, chimera patterns in oscillating media, viscoelastic Couette-Taylor flow, flow in the wake behind a heated cylinder, other pattern formation. The editors and authors dedicate this book to the memory of Alexander Ezersky, Professor of Fluid Mechanics at the University of Caen Normandie (France) from September 2007 to July 2016. Before 2007, he had served as a Senior Scientist at the Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Nizhny Novgorod (Russia). The chapters have been written by leading scientists in Nonlinear Physics, and the topics chosen so as to cover all the fields to which Prof. Ezersky himself contributed, by means of experimental, theoretical and numerical approaches. The volume will appeal to advanced students and researchers studying nonlinear waves and pattern dynamics, as well as other scientists interested in their applications in various natural media.
