Book Synopsis Intermolecular Interactions by : Ilya G. Kaplan
Download or read book Intermolecular Interactions written by Ilya G. Kaplan and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of this book — intermolecular interactions — is as important in physics as in chemistry and molecular biology. Intermolecular interactions are responsible for the existence of liquids and solids in nature. They determine the physical and chemical properties of gases, liquids, and crystals, the stability of chemical complexes and biological compounds. In the first two chapters of this book, the detailed qualitative description of different types of intermolecular forces at large, intermediate and short-range distances is presented. For the first time in the monographic literature, the temperature dependence of the dispersion forces is discussed, and it is shown that at finite temperatures the famous Casimir-Polder asymptotic formula is correct only at narrow distance range. The author has aimed to make the presentation understandable to a broad scope of readers without oversimplification. In Chapter 3, the methods of quantitative calculation of the intermolecular interactions are discussed and modern achievements are presented. This chapter should be helpful for scientists performing computer calculations of many-electron systems. The last two chapters are devoted to the many-body effects and model potentials. More than 50 model potentials exploited for processing experimental data and computer simulation in different fields of physics, chemistry and molecular biology are represented. The widely used global optimisation methods: simulated annealing, diffusion equation method, basin-hopping algorithm, and genetic algorithm are described in detail. Significant efforts have been made to present the book in a self-sufficient way for readers. All the necessary mathematical apparatus, including vector and tensor calculus and the elements of the group theory, as well as the main methods used for quantal calculation of many-electron systems are presented in the appendices.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matter and Interactions, 4th Edition offers a modern curriculum for introductory physics (calculus-based). It presents physics the way practicing physicists view their discipline while integrating 20th Century physics and computational physics. The text emphasizes the small number of fundamental principles that underlie the behavior of matter, and models that can explain and predict a wide variety of physical phenomena. Matter and Interactions, 4th Edition will be available as a single volume hardcover text and also two paperback volumes.

This book was released on 2017-06-15 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-covalent Interactions in Quantum Chemistry and Physics: Theory and Applications provides an entry point for newcomers and a standard reference for researchers publishing in the area of non-covalent interactions. Written by the leading experts in this field, the book enables experienced researchers to keep up with the most recent developments, emerging methods, and relevant applications. The book gives a comprehensive, in-depth overview of the available quantum-chemistry methods for intermolecular interactions and details the most relevant fields of application for those techniques. Theory and applications are put side-by-side, which allows the reader to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of different computational techniques. - Summarizes the state-of-the-art in the computational intermolecular interactions field in a comprehensive work - Introduces students and researchers from related fields to the topic of computational non-covalent interactions, providing a single unified source of information - Presents the theoretical foundations of current quantum mechanical methods alongside a collection of examples on how they can be applied to solve practical problems

Book Synopsis A Framework for K-12 Science Education by : National Research Council
Download or read book A Framework for K-12 Science Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life and hold the key to solving many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. The United States' position in the global economy is declining, in part because U.S. workers lack fundamental knowledge in these fields. To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.
Book Synopsis Interactions by : Vincent F. Hendricks

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main theme of this anthology is the unique interaction between mathematics, physics and philosophy during the beginning of the 20th century. In this book, ten renowned philosopher-historians probe insightfully into key conceptual questions of pre-quantum mathematical physics. The result is a diverse yet thematically focused compilation of first class papers on mathematics, physics and philosophy, and a source-book on the interaction between them.
Book Synopsis The Physics of Polymer Interactions by : Jean Pierre Ibar
Download or read book The Physics of Polymer Interactions written by Jean Pierre Ibar and published by Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH Co KG. This book was released on 2019-10-07 with total page 464 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding of polymer interactions is important for effective processing of plastics and their blends, mixing with nanoparticles, and understanding of their mechanical and physical (e.g., electrical) properties. This book describes a new physics of interactions in polymers that challenges existing theories, and explains the concept of entanglement in a very different way. Rheology is formulated with different parameters defi ning the physics of dual-phase and cross-dual-phase. The rubbery behavior of thermoplastics is explained quite differently to conventional theory. Rheo-fluidification experiments which are applicable to industry (injection molding, extrusion, sheet forming, etc.) are described and analyzed, including molding under conditions of reduced viscosity (up to several hundred percent). The application of this theory to industry has already been proven by a number of successful derived inventions.
