Book Synopsis Interaction and Mobility by : Pentti Haddington
Download or read book Interaction and Mobility written by Pentti Haddington and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-05-28 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do people interact when they are on the move? How do people interact in order to be mobile? How do people coordinate the mobility of others? How does mobility feature in social interaction? ‘Multimodal interaction’ and ‘mobility’ are of increasing interest to scholars across disciplines. Interaction and mobility is the first book to study these aspects comprehensively. It provides cutting-edge research by international scholars who use video-recordings of real-life everyday interactions for studying in close detail human social interaction in such diverse multimodal settings as airplanes, cars, traffic control centres, dance schools, museums and other public places, and as part of such activities as instructing, navigating, identifying an enemy on the battlefield, organising a meeting, playing videogames, shopping, performing and dancing. Together, these studies highlight features of social interaction, including language, embodied conduct, and spatial and material orientation, for being mobile, for interacting on the move, so that mobility becomes a ubiquitous feature of our lives. This book is a valuable resource to anyone interested in multimodal interaction and mobility.
Book Synopsis Mobility and Cosmopolitanism by : Vered Amit
Download or read book Mobility and Cosmopolitanism written by Vered Amit and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-19 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In academic descriptions of cosmopolitanism, one particularly important distinction often recurs. Specifically, scholars have been concerned to distinguish between cosmopolitanism as a set of mundane practices and/or competences on the one hand and cosmopolitanism as a cultivated form of consciousness or moral aspiration on the other. For anthropologists whose ethnographic studies reveal many different expressions of cosmopolitanism, this distinction between aspiration and practice can often be quite ambiguous. This book therefore brings together five contributions from anthropologists who are reporting on encounters and aspirations that reveal different forms of spatial mobility, scales of commitment or risk, and are often transient, ambivalent and precarious. These are circumstances in which cosmopolitanism emerges as uneven and partial rather than as a comprehensive or unequivocal transformation of practice and outlook. This book was originally published as a special issue of Identities: Global Studies in Culture and Power.

It presents many new ideas and thoughtful approaches, especially in the Central Asian region.
Book Synopsis The Archaeology of Late Bronze Age Interaction and Mobility at the Gates of Europe by : Francesco Iacono
Download or read book The Archaeology of Late Bronze Age Interaction and Mobility at the Gates of Europe written by Francesco Iacono and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-12-27 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interaction and mobility have attracted much interest in research within scholarly fields as different as archaeology, history, and more broadly the humanities. Critically assessing some of the most widespread views on interaction and its social impact, this book proposes an innovative perspective which combines radical social theory and currently burgeoning network methodologies. Through an in-depth analysis of a wealth of data often difficult to access, and illustrated by many diagrams and maps, the book highlights connections and their social implications at different scales ranging from the individual settlement to the Mediterranean. The resulting diachronic narrative explores social and economic trajectories over some seven centuries and sheds new light on the broad historical trends affecting the life of people living around the Middle Sea. The Bronze Age is the first period of intense interaction between early state societies of the Eastern Mediterranean and the small-scale communities to the west of Greece, with people and goods moving at a scale previously unprecedented. This encounter is explored from the vantage point of one of its main foci: Apulia, located in the southern Adriatic, at the junction between East and West and the entryway of one of the major routes for the resource-rich European continent.

Book Synopsis Consumer Vulnerability by : Susan Dunnett
Download or read book Consumer Vulnerability written by Susan Dunnett and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-10-18 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book demonstrates that marketing scholarship has much to contribute to our understanding of consumer vulnerability and potential solutions. It brings to the fore ways in which so‐called vulnerable consumers navigate various marketplace and service interactions and develop specific consumer skills in order to empower themselves in such exchanges. It does so by exploring how consumer vulnerability is experienced across a range of different contexts such as poverty and disability, and the potential impact of vulnerability from childhood to old age. Other chapters extend focus from the consumer to the organisational perspective or consider more macro issues such as socio-spatial disadvantages. The fundamental aim of many of the contributors is to produce work that can benefit individual and societal well-being. They draw on various methodological approaches that generate both marketing management and policy-focused implications. A series of commentaries are also included to stimulate critical reflection and new insights into consumer vulnerability. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Journal of Marketing Management.
