Download or read book Concilier flexibilité du travail et cohésion sociale written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis Regional Integration and Modernity by : Natalie J. Doyle
Download or read book Regional Integration and Modernity written by Natalie J. Doyle and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2014-09-26 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a new framework for comparing experiences of integration: regionalization must be reinterpreted as an aspect of modernization, modernization unfolding also at the local, national and global levels. The contributors discuss how and why the different visions of modernity that inform modernization projects encouraged the construction (or rejection) of regional integration, at different times and in different places. It starts with an analysis of plans for the economic integration of Europe in the aftermath of World War I. It shows how integration was identified as the means to modernize the region with a view to helping it overcome political fragmentation and adapt to new conditions of global capitalism. It then turns to the debate on modernization unfolding in the era that constituted the formative period of integration for both Europe and Latin America. It analyses examples of the complex interaction between these two different experiences, as it extends into the present. Finally, it looks at the social and political actors that promoted integration in the two regions and at the discourse they formulated to do so.

Book Synopsis Informal Women Workers in the Global South by : Jayati Ghosh
Download or read book Informal Women Workers in the Global South written by Jayati Ghosh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-01-28 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Formalising employment is a desirable policy goal, but how it is done matters greatly, especially for women workers. Indeed, formalisation policies that do not recognise gendered realities and prevailing socio-economic conditions may be less effective and even counterproductive. This book examines the varying trajectories of formalisation and their impact on women workers in five developing countries in Asia and Africa: India, Thailand, South Africa, Ghana and Morocco. They range from low- to middle-income countries, which are integrated into global financial and goods markets to differing degrees and have varying labour market and macroeconomic conditions. The case studies, using macro and survey data as well as in-depth analysis of particular sectors, provide interesting and sometimes surprising insights. Despite some limited successes in providing social protection benefits to some informal workers, most formalisation policies have not really improved the working conditions of women workers. In many cases, that is because the policies are gender-blind and insensitive to the specific needs of women workers. The impact of formalisation policies on women in developing countries is relatively under-researched. This book provides new evidence that will be applicable across a wide range of developing country contexts and will be of interest to policymakers, feminist economists and students of economics, labour, gender and development studies, public policy, politics and sociology.
