Book Synopsis Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in a Sustainable Rice-Wheat Cropping System by : Anil Mahajan

This book was released on 2009-05-07 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agriculture is the main occupation in India and about 75% of its population depends directly or indirectly on agriculture for their livelihood. It is the dominant sector that contributes 18% of the gross domestic product. Thus, agriculture is the foundation of the Indian economy. The maximum share of Indian exports is also from the agriculture sector. As the population of the country is increasing trem- dously, approximately at the rate of 19 million every year over the existing popu- tion of more than 1 billion (approximately 1. 18 billion), the food grain production must necessarily be increased. This can be done by increasing crop production to match the population growth rate of 2. 2% per annum, which is expected to stabilize at 1. 53 billion around 2050. There is no doubt that the Green Revolution in India during the late 1960s brought self-sufficiency in food grain production, mainly through the increase in rice and wheat crop yields – the two main crops of the country which play an important role from food security point of view. However, the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides, and the neglect of organic manures for these crops, has resulted in the deterioration of physical, chemical and biological health of the ri- and wheat-growing soils. Owing to the deterioration of the health of these soils, the productivity of the rice–wheat cropping system has now either got reduced or in some places has become constant for the last decade.

Book Synopsis Achieving Sustainable Crop Nutrition by : Zed Rengel
Download or read book Achieving Sustainable Crop Nutrition written by Zed Rengel and published by Burleigh Dodds Series in Agric. This book was released on 2019-11-22 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection reviews current research on understanding nutrient cycles, the ways crops process nutrients, the environmental effects of fertilizer use and how this understanding can be used to improve nutrient use efficiency for a more resource-efficient and climate-smart agriculture. Parts 1-3 summarise research on the primary macronutrients: nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. Chapter review what we know about nutrient cycles, crop nutrient processing, potential environmental effects and ways of optimising nutrient use efficiency (NUE). The fourth section of the book discusses secondary macronutrients and micronutrients including: calcium, magnesium, sulphur, zinc, boron, manganese and molybdenum. The final two parts of the book review research on optimising fertiliser use. Chapters cover topics such as assessing nutrient availability, decision support systems for optimising crop nutrition, advances in site-specific nutrient management and advances in integrated plant nutrient management. Other chapters discuss enhanced efficiency fertilisers, the use of bio-effectors/bio-stimulants, fertigation techniques and the use of organic amendments. With its distinguished editor and international team of expert authors, this will be a standard reference on optimising crop nutrition for the crop science and farming community.

Book Synopsis Fertilizers and Environment by : Claudio Rodriguez Barrueco
Download or read book Fertilizers and Environment written by Claudio Rodriguez Barrueco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Food production remains the highest agricultural priority, subject to the constraint that it be done in harmony with nature, or at least with minimum environmental pollution. The amount of fertilizer applied can be controlled using modern application techniques, including soil and crop management, guaranteeing higher economic profit and lower environmental cost. It is in such a context that the present book addresses the efficient and rational use of mineral and organic fertilizers while preserving environmental quality. The book discusses the impact on surface and groundwaters, soils and crops, and experience of nitrate leaching, denitrification, ammonia volatilization, heavy metal pollution, agricultural and urban waste management, and international and national legislation. Audience: Agronomists, environmentalists, soil and food chemists, ecologists, policy makers, and managers in the fertilizer industry concerned with the trend of public opinion.
Book Synopsis System Based Integrated Nutrient Management by : B. Gangwar & V.K.Singh
Download or read book System Based Integrated Nutrient Management written by B. Gangwar & V.K.Singh and published by New India Publishing Agency. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrated nutrient management involving different organic sources like FYM, vermi-compost, crop residue, green manure, Bio-fertilizer and in-situ role of legumes along with balanced nutrient use (major and micro-nutrients) deserves due attention. In fact, based on series of experiments and studies conducted all over the country with reference to nutrient management for various crop as applicable to varying soil environment representing different agro-climatic zones have been generated at national level but the system based information’s on integrated nutrient management is still lacking and yet to be documented. In this publication 1, 3 and 4 deals with general issues and management options for integrated nutrient management with special reference to irrigated eco-system, while 2 focused on crop residue management. The 5 and 10 are enlightens the soil-test based nutrient management for sustainable soil health, while s 6 and 7 are related to nutrient economy through integrated farming system and inclusion of legumes under cereal based cropping systems. The 8 is focused on integrated nutrient management in rice-wheat cropping system, while 9 on oilseed based, 11 on soybean based, 13 on vegetable and 23 on seed spices based cropping systems. The issues related to SSNM, protected agriculture, soil chemical, biological and microbial diversity are discussed in 12, 14 and 18, respectively. The aspects related to system based nutrient budgeting, soil carbon management and sequestration, balanced crop nutrition in relation to crop diseases, economics and nutrient modeling have been duly discussed in s from 19 to 25.

Book Synopsis Integrated Plant Nutrient Management in Sub-Saharan Africa by :
Download or read book Integrated Plant Nutrient Management in Sub-Saharan Africa written by and published by CABI. This book was released on 2002 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soil degradation and nutrient depletion have become serious threats to agricultural productivity in Africa. Soils cannot supply the quantities of nutrients required and yield levels decline rapidly once cropping commences. This book addresses these issues and includes papers from an international symposium held at Cotonou, Benin, October 9-12, 2000, organized by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, Ibadan, Nigeria and the Department of Land Management of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. In five main parts it marks the end of a first phase of collaborative research on "Balanced Nutrient Management Systems for the Moist Savanna and Humid Forest Zones of Africa" and concludes with recommendations, providing essential reading for crop and soil scientists.
