Cependant, plusieurs facteurs entrent maintenant en ligne de compte comme les aspects sociaux de la formation à l'emploi, certaines difficultés pour l'individu ayant une déficience intellectuelle de faire la généralisation entre différents postes de travail ou environnement de travail, les fluctuations de l'économie et de ses répercussions sur l'emploi ainsi que de le développement de nouveaux secteurs d'activités délaissant le domaine manufacturier pour le domaine des services.
