Cuando ocurre una Insuficiencia Respiratoria Aguda de origen neuromuscular, esta es debido a un compromiso de los musculos respiratorios llevando por tanto a una Insufiencia Respiratoria Aguda hipodinamica que cursa con hipercapnia a hipoxemia, lo cual requiere de un manejo tanto del personal medico como el paramedico ya que puede conducir a un paro respiratorio y poner en peligro la vida del paciente. La mortalidad oscila entre un 2-21 por ciento y el buen conocimiento de estas patologias neuromusculares con falla respiratoria aguda, de todo el personal que labora en los Servicios de Emergencia, Medicina y en las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos, donde estos pacientes permanecen por un largo periodo de tiempo, va a influir en forma favorable en el pronostico y evolucion de su enfermedad. Por lo tanto este libro, esta dirigido a todo el personal medico, paramedico, estudiantes de Medicina y Enfermeria que tienen que enfrentar a diario con los problemas que afectan a los pacientes con Insuficiencia Respiratoria Aguda de origen neuromuscular y de esta manera proporcionarles una guia para el manejo oportuno y temprano de todas aquellas complicacions fatales que puedan presentarse en un momento dado; asi mismo ofrecerles una informacion actualizada de los aspectos relevantes en la etiologia, fisiopatologia clinica y tratamiento de todas las enfermedades neuromusculares que conducen a Insuficiencia Respiratoria Aguda(AU).
