Download or read book Anaesthesia written by Joseph Rupreht and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thesiologist, were not included. Perhaps the next symposium will have a paper on his many contributions. Even though his dates are not quite modem (1813-1858), his accomplishments were, especially his book On Chloroform and Other Anaesthetics (1858), the first comprehensive textbook on anaesthesia [2]. There has been a real renaissance of interest in the history of anaesthesia. Among those responsible for this rebirth, besides Dr. Rupreht and Dr. Erdmann, are Dr. Selma Calmes and Dr. Rod Calverley, now on the Board of the new American society, the Anesthesia History Association. It held its inaugural meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, during the annual meeting of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, on 9 October 1983. The meeting was well attended, and the evening was profitable and delightful. Mention should also be made of the accomplishments of the nurse anaesthetists [3]. They are many in number, and generally they work under the direction of a physician anaesthesiologist. Although modem anaesthesia was Ameriea's first great medieal diseovery, it soon traversed the globe and found worldwide acceptance. The British, for example, have made many coeval and historie contributions. Besides Dr. Duncum one thinks of Prof. T. Cecil Gray, who pioneered the British use ofeurare [4], andDr. J. Alfred Lee, whowas a pioneerin the use ofspin~l anaesthesia and is currently working on the fifth edition of a textbook on spinal analgesia [7]. Dr.

This introductory manual, now revised and updated in a second edition, was prepared by the Department of Anaesthesia in Canadian medical schools and provides the undergraduate medical student with an important foundation for wider knowledge in the realm of anaesthesiology. Contents include Anaesthesia in relation to surgery , Evaluation of the patient before anaesthesia, Preanaesthetic medication, General anaesthesia, Neuromuscular transmission and muscle relaxation, Regional anaesthesia, Care of the unconscious patient, Respiration and anaesthesia, Cardiovascular homeostasis in relation to anaesthesia and resuscitation, Fluid and electrolyte balance, Acid-base balance, Complications of anaesthesia, Postoperative problems and care, Obstetrical anaesthesia and resuscitation of the newborn, and Special considerations in paediatric anaesthesia.
Download or read book Erasmus written by György Faludy and published by New York : Stein and Day. This book was released on 1970 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Desiderius Erasmus sprang from the seed of a priest who refused to follow his vow of celibacy. He himself became a monk against his will, found he had to flee the monastic atmosphere, and scrounged for the wherewithal to study. In time, he became the greatest classical scholar of his day, and wrote a book called Anti-Barbari which speaks to the 1970’s, though it was written nearly half a millennium ago. Like the youth of today, Erasmus lived during a period of intense political, intellectual, and religious change. Burgundy warred with France, the humanists clashed with the medieval order, and Luther destroyed Christian unity. Against this background, Erasmus, whose name is derived from the Greek root meaning “to love,” was able to develop and sustain a profound philosophy of tolerance and pacifism.Erasmus could compromise with the Princes of Church and State, and even flatter them, but he never compromised his beliefs. In an age we think of as fraught with superstition and intolerance, Erasmus summoned his greatness to the side of reason; his integrity speaks to us now, when we can no longer comfort ourselves with the belief that we are living in an age of reason. This grand biography will have added meaning for a generation of students who are trying to revive “humane” as a guideline for human interchange.”- Publisher
