The complete work is planned for 8 volumes that will be published in intervals of about 18 months. The information provided for each species will be the following: • Primary taxonomic information of all available names in the genus and species levels published by the end of 1999. • The taxonomic information below subfamily will be organized alphabetically. • The type species of genera and subgenera, incl. synonyms, are given. • The area covered also includes the Arabian Peninsula, Himalayas and China. • The distributional data of species and subspecies is given per country. • Detailed distributional information for strict endemics is given. • Introduced species are indicated. The catalogue is a collective work of about one hundred coleopterists from Europe, Japan, America and Australia.

Book excerpt: Volume 8 of the Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera provides a list of all taxa of the bulk of the family Curculionidae and of Cryptolaryngidae reported from the biogeographical realm covered. For the genus and species-groups taxa all available names are given, and for the valid species and subspecies the distribution per country is shown, including more details for endemic taxa. Type species are listed for all genus-group names. The work is based on verification of the primary sources, and the respective references are given. Particular chapters deal with the actual impediments of taxonomy, nomenclatural and taxonomic problems, and corrections to previously published volumes of the Catalogue.

This book was released on 2006-09-13 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Systematic Catalogue of Soft-Scale Insects is a synthesis and catalogue of all the information published on eight families of scale insects (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) worldwide from 1758 to the present. Data is provided on their correct scientific names, common names, synonyms, taxonomy, host plants, distribution, natural enemies, biology, and economic importance. This book will be a valuable compendium of biological and systematic information for zoologists, entomologists, crop protection specialists, quarantine officers, students studying entomology and related disciplines, and others who require information about scale insects for research and control projects. Aclerdidae - 57 species in 5 genera Asterolecaniidae - 229 species in 21 genera Beesoniidae - 15 species in 6 genera Carayonemidae - 4 species in 4 genera Conchaspididae - 29 species in 4 genera Dactylopiidae - 10 species in 1 genus Kerriidae - 97 species in 9 genera Lecanodiaspididae - 82 species in 12 genera

Book excerpt: This first supplement to "A Selected Bibliography of the Coccoidea" (Miscellaneous Publication 734) cites the important coccid literature that appeared between January 1, 1956, (the closing date of the original publication) and December 21, 1962. In addition, this supplement includes several earlier papers that were omitted in the original publication but that now appear to be potentially significant.
Book Synopsis Coleoptera, Beetles. Morphology and Systematics by : Rolf G. Beutel
Download or read book Coleoptera, Beetles. Morphology and Systematics written by Rolf G. Beutel and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2016-03-21 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a revised edition of the first of three volumes in the Handbook of Zoology series which treats the systematics and biology of Coleoptera. With over 380,000 described species, Coleoptera are by far the most species-rich order of insects and the largest group of animals of comparable geological age. Moreover, numerous species are tremendously important economically. The beetle volumes meet the demand of modern biologists seeking to answer questions about Coleoptera phylogeny, evolution, and ecology. This first Coleoptera volume covers the suborders Archostemata, Myxophaga and Adephaga, and the basal series of Polyphaga, with information on world distribution, biology, morphology of all life stages, phylogeny and comments on taxonomy.

Download or read book Archostemata-Myxophaga-Adephaga written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-08-28 with total page 1477 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition of the Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera gives a taxonomic overview of the most diverse group of all organisms living in the world-largest biogeographical area. The present volume is an updated edition of the first issue in 2003 but restricted to data published before the year 2000. It contains information about 33,914 taxa (together with synonyms), and increases the number of included species and other taxa by almost 5,000. In addition, thousands of species have their distributional data completed, and their ranks, systematic positions and nomenclature corrected. Almost two hundred new acts fix systematics and nomenclature, and numerous problems are discussed. Even such well known genera as Calosoma and Carabus, or tribes as Bembidiini and Panagaeini, are completely reorganized compared to the previously published catalogues. Thus, the work is a scaffold for biotic surveys, ecological studies, and nature conservation. It responds to the urgent need of an assessment of the still remaining forms of life, threatened by the on-going destruction of habitats. Taxonomy provides the basic building blocks of our understanding of the diversity of life. It stems from innate human curiosity: confronted with an unknown species we ask first “what is it”? Taxonomists recognize species and other systematic entities (taxa), define them and place them within the framework of known organisms, providing means for their subsequent identification. Contributors are: Antonio Tomás Tomas Andújar, Carmelo Fernández Andújar, Michael Balkenohl, Igor Belousov, Yves Bousquet, Boleslav Březina, Achille Casale, Hans Fery, Jan Farkač, Pier Mauro Giachino, Henri Goulet, Martin Häckel, Jiří Hájek, Oldřich Hovorka, Fritz Hieke, Jan Hrdlička, Charles Huber, Bernd Jaeger, Ilya Kabak, Boris M.
