Book Synopsis A Scientific Inquiry Into the Nature of God, the Spiritual, and Near Death Experiences by : Stephen Blaha
Download or read book A Scientific Inquiry Into the Nature of God, the Spiritual, and Near Death Experiences written by Stephen Blaha and published by Pingree-Hill Publishing. This book was released on 2002-06 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is God? What is His nature? Is there a scientific approach to understanding God? Can we apply modern scientific thinking to God in the same way that theologians apply classical reasoning to God? Are there spiritual phenomena? Can we rationally analyze them? How do we interpret the apparently spiritual nature of Near Death Experiences? Can we explain how a blind person undergoing a Near Death Experience "sees" the operating table with his/her mind and can describe the people there afterwards? All of these questions are addressed in a clear straightforward way in this well-written book. A profound book that will appeal to thoughtful readers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The biography of the "Wizard of Wall Street" who has dedicated his life to advancing the scientific study of spiritual realities has been revised and updated. Sir John Templeton was an inspiring and motivational force both through his personal example and through the foundation that bears his name and is dedicated to his mission. This volume reviews the life of this man of vision, from his childhood in rural Tennessee, to his education at Yale and Oxford, to his legendary years on Wall Street, the birth of his children, and the development and growth of "humility theology science." Interwoven with the stories and facts are the roots of his faith and the values that he credits for his financial success and are the catalyst for his lifelong mission. Sir John's biography updates the growth of the many and varied programs of the John Templeton Foundation that support this mission. It also introduces some of the scientists, theologians, philosophers, writers, and fellow investors who now serve as staff and advisors to the John Templeton Foundation, striving toward Sir John's goal of one-hundred-fold more spiritual information gained through the application of scientific methodology and analysis.

Book Synopsis Programming the Built Environment (Routledge Revivals) by : Wolfgang F. E. Preiser
Download or read book Programming the Built Environment (Routledge Revivals) written by Wolfgang F. E. Preiser and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-07-24 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Architectural programming – the analysis of any given environment to satisfy users’ needs – has become a given prerequisite to the design process. The programming process is often a complicated one: users’ present and future needs must be identified; space allowances, often predetermined, must be considered; equipment must be accommodated; all in the most cost-effective way possible. The variety of user groups is as wide as the variety of functions architecture can shelter; moreover, the different structures and needs of clients that fall within the same use classification differs so greatly that every program presents a new challenge. You cannot, for example, use the same program for every hospital you design. In Programming the Built Environment, first published in 1985, noted architect Wolfgang F. E. Preiser has compiled a wide range of architectural programs demonstrating applications of basic principles for different client groups. This book will be of interest to students of architecture and planning.

Book Synopsis Inquiry into the Singapore Science Classroom by : Aik-Ling Tan
Download or read book Inquiry into the Singapore Science Classroom written by Aik-Ling Tan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers an insight into the research and practices of science teaching and learning in the Singapore classroom, with particular attention paid to how they map on to science as inquiry. It provides a spectrum of Singapore’s science educational practices through all levels of its education system, detailing both successes and shortcomings. The book features a collection of research and discourse by science educators in Singapore, organized around four themes that are essential components of approaching science as inquiry: teachers’ ideas and their practices, opportunities and constraints from a systemic level, students’ competencies and readiness to learn through inquiry and the need for greater awareness of the role of informal learning avenues in science education. In addition, the discourse within each theme is enriched by commentary from a leading international academic, which helps to consolidate ideas as well as position the issues within a wider theoretical and international context. Overall, the papers set out important contexts for readers to understand the current state of science education in Singapore. They also highlight strengths and gaps in practices of science as inquiry as well as provide suggestions about how the system can be improved. These research findings are therefore helpful as they provide honest and evidence-based feedback as well as tangible and doable ideas that policy makers, teachers, students and school administrators can adopt, adapt and enhance.

Book Synopsis The Minimalist Program, 20th Anniversary Edition by : Noam Chomsky
Download or read book The Minimalist Program, 20th Anniversary Edition written by Noam Chomsky and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2014-12-26 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A classic work that situates linguistic theory in the broader cognitive sciences, formulating and developing the minimalist program. In his foundational book, The Minimalist Program, published in 1995, Noam Chomsky offered a significant contribution to the generative tradition in linguistics. This twentieth-anniversary edition reissues this classic work with a new preface by the author. In four essays, Chomsky attempts to situate linguistic theory in the broader cognitive sciences, with the essays formulating and progressively developing the minimalist approach to linguistic theory. Building on the theory of principles and parameters and, in particular, on principles of economy of derivation and representation, the minimalist framework takes Universal Grammar as providing a unique computational system, with derivations driven by morphological properties, to which the syntactic variation of languages is also restricted. Within this theoretical framework, linguistic expressions are generated by optimally efficient derivations that must satisfy the conditions that hold on interface levels, the only levels of linguistic representation. The interface levels provide instructions to two types of performance systems, articulatory-perceptual and conceptual-intentional. All syntactic conditions, then, express properties of these interface levels, reflecting the interpretive requirements of language and keeping to very restricted conceptual resources. In the preface to this edition, Chomsky emphasizes that the minimalist approach developed in the book and in subsequent work “is a program, not a theory.” With this book, Chomsky built on pursuits from the earliest days of generative grammar to formulate a new research program that had far-reaching implications for the field.
