Book Synopsis Fungal Pathogenicity and the Plant's Response by : R.J.W. Byrde
Download or read book Fungal Pathogenicity and the Plant's Response written by R.J.W. Byrde and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fungal Pathogenicity and the Plants Response covers the proceedings of the Third Long Ashton Symposium held at Long Ashton Research Station University of Bristol on September 22-24, 1971. Topics for this biennial symposium are decided for their importance to Agriculture and Horticulture and for the timeliness of a critical review of developments in fungal pathogenicity and plants response. Composed of five sections, this book discusses the direct involvement of fungal proteins in fungal pathogenicity, the role of extracellular enzymes in fruit rotting, and the control of vertical distribution of apple scab disease. It then examines the role of ethylene in plant diseases, growth of obligate parasites, and the concepts of host-pathogen relations. It also focuses on plants induced and preformed resistance factors, including phaseollin, phytoalexin, and benzoic acid. The concluding section discusses the significant role of enzymes, particularly lysosomal enzymes, in fungal pathogenicity. With a strong focus on original data and speculative comment on host-parasite contact, this book will be helpful for research workers, teachers, and students who wish to broaden their knowledge in fungal pathogenicity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2The purpose of this paper is to point out some of these interactions and to illustrate that bacteria, non-hymenomycetes, and hymenomycetes are all important in the processes that lead to decay and discoloration in beech, birch, and maple. Data from several studies are summarized.S3.
Book Synopsis Improvement in Butt-log Grade with Increase in Tree Size, for Six Hardwood Species by : George R. Trimble (Jr.)
Download or read book Improvement in Butt-log Grade with Increase in Tree Size, for Six Hardwood Species written by George R. Trimble (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: S2Work carried out by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station in West Virginia in the past 12 years provides useful information about the relationships between tree d.b.h. and butt-log grade. The upper logs are not included in the relationships. Being smaller and containing more knots, these upper logs are generally of lower grade than the butt logs. Thus the average grade of all material in the sawlog portion of the tree is generally lower than the average grade of the butt log. In the West Virginia data, species differences in d.b.h.-grade relationship are readily apparent. This inherent tendency for species to have different proportions of the various grades in logs of the same size is a familiar phenomenon to grade-conscious foresters who work with hardwoods. The results in this paper provide a quantitative evaluation of this tendency for six of the local species.S3.
