Book excerpt: The concepts of innovation, industry, and copper – as intended by the editors of the monograph translated to readers – determine the theoretical field of the discussed considerations. They appear in various research perspectives, in broadly understood engineering and technical sciences, as well as in social sciences. Therefore, they constitute an open area of interpretation that cannot be reduced to a single interpretation or closed within one specific theoretical field. (…) This monograph entitled “Innovation in the Copper Industry” consists of thirteen chapters, which are divided into two parts. The first one includes considerations and research results in the field of technical and engineering sciences. The next part deals with topics originating from the area of social sciences. The authors of the texts are, among others, specialists conducting research in the most important academic centers in the country, employees of research institutes, companies, and management staff at KGHM Polska Miedź SA.

It is a crucial commodity for industrialised countries, most of which depend on imports for their supplies. Copper is also the single most important export for many of the producer-countries. Changes in the patterns of the world trade in copper therefore have an important impact on many countries. This book surveys the state of the world copper industry as it was in the 1980s. It discusses the state of production, demand and trade and assesses trends. Special emphasis is given to the outlook for over capacity, prices and competitive structure.

Book Synopsis Learning and Innovation in Natural Resource Based Industries by : Allan Dahl Andersen
Download or read book Learning and Innovation in Natural Resource Based Industries written by Allan Dahl Andersen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops and articulates a new perspective on the relationship between natural resources and development by foregrounding issues of innovation, knowledge, and industrial dynamics. Despite growing academic attention to the relationship between economic development and natural resources in social sciences, the issue has received rather limited attention in the field of Innovation Studies. This is problematic given the centrality of innovation and technological change for growth and development. Against that background, this book makes three contributions. Firstly, it summarizes and synthesizes existing insights about learning and innovation in Natural Resource Based Industries. Secondly, it develops new insights based on original research work. Thirdly, it distils and explains the remaining research challenges in the field. Containing important insights for researchers, businesses, and policymakers, this book will be useful to all those with an interest in navigating a natural resource based development pathway. This book was originally published as a special issue of Innovation and Development.

Book Synopsis Innovation and IP Rights in the Chilean Copper Mining Sector: The Role of the Mining, Equipment, Technology and Services Firms by : Claudio Bravo-Ortega
Download or read book Innovation and IP Rights in the Chilean Copper Mining Sector: The Role of the Mining, Equipment, Technology and Services Firms written by Claudio Bravo-Ortega and published by WIPO. This book was released on 2019-05-09 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This analysis of intellectual property (IP) protection practices among mining equipment, technology and services suppliers (METS) in Chile’s copper mining sector adds to a body of literature that has hitherto focused on high-income countries. It is based on data collated from an online survey of resident METS and on semi-structured interviews of executives from mining companies and suppliers, including two universities. The main conclusion is that, although METS appear to be innovative in relation to the mining sector and the economy as a whole, only a few use intellectual property rights (IPRs) to protect their innovations. The main reasons for this finding appear to be the cost and expected complexity of the registration process. Another noteworthy finding is the view that Chile has the requisite legal IPR expertise, but commercial capabilities (expertise in IPR-based innovation management and business plans) are much less developed. In the last section, four case studies of product and process innovation by four mining suppliers add some interesting insights to the analysis.
