Book Synopsis Inner Nature by : Annette Poizner Msw Ed D
Download or read book Inner Nature written by Annette Poizner Msw Ed D and published by Lobster University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-28 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Who am I?" For many, this most important question goes unaddressed. According to Psychiatrist Carl Jung, people who fail to form a mature, unique identity get lost in pseudo-identities and 'group-think'. Jung warned, "The world will ask you who you are and if you don't know, the world will tell you!" Without the anchor of Self, a person becomes an angry mouthpiece for causes, one more member of the raucous herd. Psychotherapist Annette Poizner, MSW, Ed.D., RSW, has designed workbooks to help readers access Jung's insights into identity and Self. In these two volumes, readers will color images - to improve comprehension, facilitate reflection and also to promote concentration. Accessing Jung's wisdom through summaries, direct quotes and graphic images provides a 'stereophonic' learning experience. In the first volume, readers learned Jung's ideas while coloring mandalas, geometric renderings which Jung felt graphically represented the concept of the Self. In this volume, we consider why we often reference the animal kingdom when describing people and situations: "He is a real shark!" "There's something fishy going on." "He's a teddy bear!" We will look at animals that embody character traits which play out in our own inner natures. We will find a range of archetypes represented in the animal kingdom and will realize our goal: to find all of creation - all the archetypes - within each one of us. Each reader can discover the animal that corresponds to his or her own essence; also each must cultivate traits associated with the wide range of animals. Use this self-reflection exercise to explore the Jungian archetypes and to explore - and expand - your own inner nature. Learning about Jung's archetypes will spur readers into more active dreaming. The dream journal serves as a log that readers can use to capture their dreams so they can review them over time in an effort to detect patterns. Part guide, part coloring book, part journal, part mirror, Annette Poizner, a seasoned therapist, has assembled a compelling and personal introduction to the magical world of Carl Jung. In books that are both educational and experiential, readers can engage in activities which bring Jung's fascinating insights to life. Annette Poizner, MSW, Ed.D, RSW, has a Master's in Social Work degree from Columbia University of New York and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Toronto. A practicing therapist, her innovations have been featured in dailies across Canada, in trade magazines across North America, and at clinical and academic conferences and in journals. Many of the books she has authored relate specifically to the work of Dr. Jordan B. Peterson: 'A Practical Summary & Workbook for Using Jordan Peterson's 'Maps of Meaning' to Sort Yourself Out', 'An Illustrated Guide to Using Jordan Peterson's Insights Regarding Divinity and the Map of Meaning to Sort Yourself Out', 'This Way Up: A Faith-Based Introduction to Jordan Peterson's 'Maps of Meaning', In Good Standing: Using Jordan Peterson's Insights on the Structure of Self to Sort Yourself Out, Clean Your Room: An Out-of-the-Box Manual for Lobsters, Getting Sorted, Lobster Style: Why (and How) You Can Use Jordan Peterson's Insights to Make Life Better, Lobster Tales: Stories of Lives Transformed by the ideas of Jordan Peterson, among others. She has also innovated a new genre, educational adult coloring books, designed to teach concepts related to Jungian psychology and personal development. Her new series, Jung@Heart, features two additional titles beyond the current volume: The Moon in the Man and The Jordan Peterson Cheat Sheet.
Book Synopsis Discourse on Transforming Inner Nature by : Wang Fengyi
Download or read book Discourse on Transforming Inner Nature written by Wang Fengyi and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-09-13 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This wonderful and remarkable book by Wang Fengyi (1864-1937) is a true testament to the benefits of Daoist spiritual cultivation. At age thirty-five, having become aware of the repercussions and implications of emotions on his own health condition, Wang attained the Dao and began spreading his teachings. Furthermore one of his most remarkable accomplishments was the founding of countless schools for young women, thus making education accessible to them on a large scale at a time when Confucianism prevailed. Wang Fengyi's teachings are like thoughtful and profound prose that can allow people to transform their Self, their Body and their Spirit. If you seek to help others or bring wellness to yourself, these teachings can be enormously beneficial, offering direction and great insights into your own emotional state and therefore potential healing at the deepest level. As Daoist practitioners, Johan Hausen and Jonas Akers have done an excellent job in translating this valuable treatise, bringing additional authenticity to the transmission of this work and propagation of Wang Fengyi's teachings.

Book Synopsis The Syntactic Nature of Inner Aspect by : Jonathan E. MacDonald
Download or read book The Syntactic Nature of Inner Aspect written by Jonathan E. MacDonald and published by John Benjamins Publishing. This book was released on 2008 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the syntactic nature of inner aspect from a minimalist perspective. It begins with the new observation that there are two independent properties at play in English inner aspect: the object-to-event mapping and event structure. From a discussion of English statives and Russian, it is concluded that the former property is variant and the latter universal; a minimalist conception of language variation arises naturally in this context. Additionally, an exploration of a lexical derivational approach to achievements leads to the expectation that there are no accomplishments in the lexicon. A detailed look at idioms suggests that this expectation is met. These results support the division of labor between an operative lexicon and narrow syntax in aspectual composition; this naturally poses a problem for (neo-)constructional approaches to inner aspect. Finally, one conclusion reached about the syntactic nature of inner aspect regards the object-to-event mapping: it is a purely syntactic phenomenon.
Book Synopsis The Art of Freedom by : Juliane Rebentisch
Download or read book The Art of Freedom written by Juliane Rebentisch and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-15 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of democratic freedom refers to more than the kind of freedom embodied by political institutions and procedures. Democratic freedom can only be properly understood if it is grasped as the expression of a culture of freedom that encompasses an entire form of life. Juliane Rebentisch’s systematic and historical approach demonstrates that we can learn a great deal about the democratic culture of freedom from its philosophical critics. From Plato to Carl Schmitt, the critique of democratic culture has always been articulated as a critique of its ãaestheticization“. Rebentisch defends various phenomena of aestheticization Ð from the irony typical of democratic citizens to the theatricality of the political Ð as constitutive elements of democratic culture and the notion of freedom at the heart of its ethical and political self-conception. This work will be of particular interest to students of Political Theory, Philosophy and Aesthetics.
Book Synopsis The Philokalia and the Inner Life by : Christopher CH Cook
Download or read book The Philokalia and the Inner Life written by Christopher CH Cook and published by James Clarke & Company. This book was released on 2011-01-27 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Philokalia was published in Venice in 1782. It is an anthology of patristic writings from the Eastern Church, spanning the 4th to the 15th Centuries, which has been the subsequent focus of a significant revival in Orthodox spirituality. It presents an understanding of psychopathology and mental life which is significantly different to that usually encountered in western Christianity. It also presents accounts of both mental wellbeing and the pathologies of the mind or soul which are radically different to contemporary secular accounts and yet which also find remarkable points of similarity with contemporary psychotherapeutic approaches, such as cognitive therapy. The book provides an introduction to the history of the Philokalia and the philosophical, anthropological and theological influences that contributed to its information. It presents a critical account of the pathologies of the soul, the remedies for these pathologies, and the therapeutic goals as portrayed by the authors of the Philokalia. It then offers a critical engagement of this material with a contemporary understanding of psychotherapy. Finally, it raises important questions about the relationship between thoughts and prayer.

Book Synopsis Legitimation Crisis by : Juergen Habermas
Download or read book Legitimation Crisis written by Juergen Habermas and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 1975-08-25 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Theory originated in the perception by a group of German Marxists after the First World War that the Marxist analysis of capitalism had become deficient both empirically and with regard to its consequences for emancipation, and much of their work has attempted to deepen and extend it in new circumstances. Yet much of this revision has been in the form of piecemeal modification. In his latest work, Habermas has returned to the study of capitalism, incorporating the distinctive modifications of the Frankfurt School into the foundations of the critique of capitalism. Drawing on both systems theory and phenomenological sociology as well as Marxism, the author distinguishes four levels of capitalist crisis - economic, rationality, legitimation, and motivational crises. In his analysis, all the Frankfurt focus on cultural, personality, and authority structures finds its place, but in a systematic framework. At the same time, in his sketch of communicative ethics as the highest stage in the internal logic of the evolution of ethical systems, the author hints at the source of a new political practice that incorporates the imperatives of evolutionary rationality.

Book Synopsis New Essays on the Nature of Propositions by : David Hunter
Download or read book New Essays on the Nature of Propositions written by David Hunter and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are exciting times for philosophical theorizing about propositions, with the last 15 years seeing the development of new approaches and the emergence of new theorists. Propositions have been invoked to explain thought and cognition, the nature and attribution of mental states, language and communication, and in philosophical treatments of truth, necessity and possibility. According to Frege and Russell, and their followers, propositions are structured mind- and language-independent abstract objects which have essential and intrinsic truth-conditions. Some recent theorizing doubts whether propositions really exist and, if they do, asks how we can grasp, entertain and know them? But most of the doubt concerns whether the abstract approach to propositions can really explain them. Are propositions really structured, and if so where does their structure come from? How does this structure form a unity, and does it need to? Are the representational and structural properties of propositions really independent of those of thinking and language? What does it mean to say that an object occurs in or is a constituent of a proposition? The volume takes up these and other questions, both as they apply to the abstract object approach and also to the more recently developed approaches. While the volume as a whole does not definitively and unequivocally reject the abstract objection approach, for the most part, the papers explore new critical and constructive directions. This book was originally published as a special issue of the Canadian Journal of Philosophy.

Book Synopsis In Good Company by : Bede Benjamin Bidlack
Download or read book In Good Company written by Bede Benjamin Bidlack and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-02-04 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Good Company answers a question that has confounded Christian theologians: What is the nature of the body that will enjoy resurrection at the end of time? In this exciting work of comparative theology, Bede Benjamin Bidlack derives a theory of the body from the French Jesuit, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, by putting him in dialogue with the Song Dynasty Daoist Xiao Yingsou. In addition to its contribution to comparative theology, In Good Company offers the first translation of the preface of Xiao’s commentary on the Duren jing in a Western language, as well as a careful explication of the provocative mountain diagram therein. Bidlack presents an original contribution for both scholars of Christian theology and Chinese religion. “An excellent example of comparative theology, Bede Bidlack’s In Good Company demonstrates how certain lacunae in one tradition may be addressed by drawing on resources from another religion. Having identified a neglect of the body in the work of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, and in much of the Christian tradition of divinization, Bidlack discusses the work of Daoist scholar Xiao Yingsou as a possible source of inspiration and theological imagination.” – Catherine Cornille, Newton College Alumnae Chair, Professor of Comparative Theology, Boston College “In Good Company takes comparative theology to a new level: it not only places Daoism front and center, but also opens Christian spirituality to a wider dimension. Concerned with the two core themes of the body and personal divinization (or resurrection), the book centers on the work of two influential thinkers in their traditions: Teilhard de Chardin and Xiao Yingsou. Although 800 years apart, their visions of the body as the means to ultimate fulfillment, in close relation to divinity and the cosmos as a whole, powerfully enhance each other, as do their understanding of the intricate process of personal divinization. The book is challenging in its outlook, unsettling in its destabilization of terms, and brilliant in its interweaving of the two traditions. A must for anyone concerned with the new global environment of religious pluralism and the ongoing process of interreligious dialogue.” – Livia Kohn, Professor Emerita of Religion & East Asian Studies, Boston University
