Book Synopsis Inlet/Body Integration Preliminary Design for Supersonic Air-Breathing Missiles Using Automated Multi-Discilinary Optimization by : Yan Kergaravat

This book was released on 2000 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to reduce the design cycle time and cost and to improve the multi-disciplinary interactions at the preliminary design stage of supersonic air-breathing missiles, an automated optimization method has been developed for inlet/body integration in a concurrent engineering environment. Three disciplines of higher relevance have been considered for the shape optimization problem: propulsion, aerodynamics and electromagnetics. This paper describes the numerical method, which incorporates a genetic algorithm and three analysis modules into the optimization loop. The parametric model of the generic missile is presented. The optimization problem is defined and solved for a given mission and set of specifications. The problem is addressed in three phases corresponding to an increasing number of concurrent disciplines. This progression enables to emphasize the conflicting goals between the disciplines and to understand how the optimizer yields the best compromises. This preliminary study shows interesting results and strong potential for future development and industrial applications.
Book Synopsis Hypersonic Curved Compression Inlet and Its Inverse Design by : Kunyuan Zhang
Download or read book Hypersonic Curved Compression Inlet and Its Inverse Design written by Kunyuan Zhang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-22 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents systematic research results on curved shock wave-curved compression surface applied to the compression surface design of supersonic–hypersonic inlet, which is a brand new inlet design. The concept of supersonic inlet curved compression discussed originated from the author’s research at the Deutsches Zentrum fur Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR SM-ES) in the early 1990s. This book introduces the research history, working characteristics, performance calculation and aerodynamic configuration design method of this compression mode in detail. It also describes method of estimating the minimum drag in inlet and drag reduction effect of curved compression and proposes a new index for evaluating unit area compression efficiency of the inlet. Further, it reviews the relevant recent research on curved compression. As such it is a valuable resource for students, researchers and scientists in the fields of hypersonic propulsion and aeronautics.

Book Synopsis Investigation of Fixed-geometry Supersonic Inlets with Bypass Ducts for Matching Turbojet-engine Air-flow Requirements Over a Range of Transonic and Supersonic Speeds by : Abraham Leiss
Download or read book Investigation of Fixed-geometry Supersonic Inlets with Bypass Ducts for Matching Turbojet-engine Air-flow Requirements Over a Range of Transonic and Supersonic Speeds written by Abraham Leiss and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is presented to design a supersonic inlet that will match turbojet-engine air mass-flow requirements over a wide Mach number range. Two types of bypasses were investigated; one had a 360 degree annular cowling and the other had twin slotted ducts. Three models were flight tested. Two of the models, which had bypass ducts, were also ground tested. The bypass models had higher external drags. Both bypass models approximated a typical turbojet-engine air mass-flow requirement between Mach numbers 1.0 and 2.0. The flight tests covered a Reynolds number range from 200,000 to 800,000 and a Mach number range from 0.8 to 1.95.

Download or read book An Analytical Study of Hypersonic Inlets in Free-molecule Flow written by Max Kinslow and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A report is made of an analytical study of free-molecule, hypervelocity air inlet configurations which might be used to supply gas for ion engines aboard satellites. The basic equations for the inlet are developed based upon gas-surface interactions. These equations are numerically solved for various gas-surface interaction parameters. Based upon these inlets, ion rocket performance is determined for various efficiencies. (Author).
Book Synopsis Supersonic Inlets by : Ione D. V. Faro
Download or read book Supersonic Inlets written by Ione D. V. Faro and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design and operation of supersonic inlets is discussed. The means by which the incoming flow may be decelerated to a subsonic velocity are enumerated and evaluated. This report covers diffusers which employ internal compression, external compression or a combination of the two. Experimentally determined values of the total pressure recovery, the capture-area ratio and the inlet drag are compared with those determined from available theories for all types of diffusers. The discussions which in general refer to axisymmetric configurations usually may be applied with equal validity to two-dimensional diffusers. However, some specific problems of the latter are treated. The effects of boundary layer are considered in some detail as are the problems of oscillating flow. (Author).
