This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 789 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to describe the theory of Hankel operators, one of the most important classes of operators on spaces of analytic func tions. Hankel operators can be defined as operators having infinite Hankel matrices (i. e. , matrices with entries depending only on the sum of the co ordinates) with respect to some orthonormal basis. Finite matrices with this property were introduced by Hankel, who found interesting algebraic properties of their determinants. One of the first results on infinite Han kel matrices was obtained by Kronecker, who characterized Hankel matri ces of finite rank as those whose entries are Taylor coefficients of rational functions. Since then Hankel operators (or matrices) have found numerous applications in classical problems of analysis, such as moment problems, orthogonal polynomials, etc. Hankel operators admit various useful realizations, such as operators on spaces of analytic functions, integral operators on function spaces on (0,00), operators on sequence spaces. In 1957 Nehari described the bounded Hankel operators on the sequence space £2. This description turned out to be very important and started the contemporary period of the study of Hankel operators. We begin the book with introductory Chapter 1, which defines Hankel operators and presents their basic properties. We consider different realiza tions of Hankel operators and important connections of Hankel operators with the spaces BMa and V MO, Sz. -Nagy-Foais functional model, re producing kernels of the Hardy class H2, moment problems, and Carleson imbedding operators.

Book Synopsis Inherently Parallel Algorithms in Feasibility and Optimization and their Applications by : D. Butnariu
Download or read book Inherently Parallel Algorithms in Feasibility and Optimization and their Applications written by D. Butnariu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-06-18 with total page 515 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Haifa 2000 Workshop on "Inherently Parallel Algorithms for Feasibility and Optimization and their Applications" brought together top scientists in this area. The objective of the Workshop was to discuss, analyze and compare the latest developments in this fast growing field of applied mathematics and to identify topics of research which are of special interest for industrial applications and for further theoretical study. Inherently parallel algorithms, that is, computational methods which are, by their mathematical nature, parallel, have been studied in various contexts for more than fifty years. However, it was only during the last decade that they have mostly proved their practical usefulness because new generations of computers made their implementation possible in order to solve complex feasibility and optimization problems involving huge amounts of data via parallel processing. These led to an accumulation of computational experience and theoretical information and opened new and challenging questions concerning the behavior of inherently parallel algorithms for feasibility and optimization, their convergence in new environments and in circumstances in which they were not considered before their stability and reliability. Several research groups all over the world focused on these questions and it was the general feeling among scientists involved in this effort that the time has come to survey the latest progress and convey a perspective for further development and concerted scientific investigations. Thus, the editors of this volume, with the support of the Israeli Academy for Sciences and Humanities, took the initiative of organizing a Workshop intended to bring together the leading scientists in the field. The current volume is the Proceedings of the Workshop representing the discussions, debates and communications that took place. Having all that information collected in a single book will provide mathematicians and engineers interested in the theoretical and practical aspects of the inherently parallel algorithms for feasibility and optimization with a tool for determining when, where and which algorithms in this class are fit for solving specific problems, how reliable they are, how they behave and how efficient they were in previous applications. Such a tool will allow software creators to choose ways of better implementing these methods by learning from existing experience.

Book Synopsis Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications by : Jean-Pierre Magnot
Download or read book Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications written by Jean-Pierre Magnot and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-02-02 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS-EMS-SMF Special Session on Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications, held from July 18–20, 2022, at the Université de Grenoble-Alpes, Grenoble, France. The articles present some developments of the theory of diffeologies applied in a broad range of topics, ranging from algebraic topology and higher homotopy theory to integrable systems and optimization in PDE. The geometric framework proposed by diffeologies is known to be one of the most general approaches to problems arising in several areas of mathematics. It can adapt to many contexts without major technical difficulties and produce examples inaccessible by other means, in particular when studying singularities or geometry in infinite dimension. Thanks to this adaptability, diffeologies appear to have become an interesting and useful language for a growing number of mathematicians working in many different fields. Some articles in the volume also illustrate some recent developments of the theory, which makes it even more deep and useful.
Book Synopsis Dynamical Systems, Number Theory and Applications by : Thomas Hagen
Download or read book Dynamical Systems, Number Theory and Applications written by Thomas Hagen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2016 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This volume consists of a selection of research-type articles on dynamical systems, evolution equations, analytic number theory and closely related topics. A strong emphasis is on a fair balance between theoretical and more applied work, thus spanning the chasm between abstract insight and actual application. Several of the articles are expected to be in the intersection of dynamical systems theory and number theory. One article will likely relate the topics presented to the academic achievements and interests of Prof. Leutbecher and shed light on common threads among all the contributions."--
Book Synopsis Bounds for Determinants of Linear Operators and their Applications by : Michael Gil'
Download or read book Bounds for Determinants of Linear Operators and their Applications written by Michael Gil' and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-03-03 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the determinants of linear operators in Euclidean, Hilbert and Banach spaces. Determinants of operators give us an important tool for solving linear equations and invertibility conditions for linear operators, enable us to describe the spectra, to evaluate the multiplicities of eigenvalues, etc. We derive upper and lower bounds, and perturbation results for determinants, and discuss applications of our theoretical results to spectrum perturbations, matrix equations, two parameter eigenvalue problems, as well as to differential, difference and functional-differential equations.

Book Synopsis Ten Physical Applications of Spectral Zeta Functions by : Emilio Elizalde
Download or read book Ten Physical Applications of Spectral Zeta Functions written by Emilio Elizalde and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-05-31 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zeta-function regularization is a powerful method in perturbation theory, and this book is a comprehensive guide for the student of this subject. Everything is explained in detail, in particular the mathematical difficulties and tricky points, and several applications are given to show how the procedure works in practice, for example in the Casimir effect, gravity and string theory, high-temperature phase transition, topological symmetry breaking, and non-commutative spacetime. The formulae, some of which are new, can be directly applied in creating physically meaningful, accurate numerical calculations. The book acts both as a basic introduction and a collection of exercises for those who want to apply this regularization procedure in practice. Thoroughly revised, updated and expanded, this new edition includes novel, explicit formulas on the general quadratic, the Chowla-Selberg series case, an interplay with the Hadamard calculus, and also features a fresh chapter on recent cosmological applications, including the calculation of the vacuum energy fluctuations at large scale in braneworld and other models.
Book Synopsis Operator Theory and Arithmetic in H [infinity] by : Hari Bercovici
Download or read book Operator Theory and Arithmetic in H [infinity] written by Hari Bercovici and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jordan's classification theorem for linear transformations on a finite-dimensional vector space is a natural highlight of the deep relationship between linear algebra and the arithmetical properties of polynomial rings. Because the methods and results of finite-dimensional linear algebra seldom extend to or have analogs in infinite-dimensional operator theory, it is therefore remarkable to have a class of operators which has a classification theorem analogous to Jordan's classical result and has properties closely related to the arithmetic of the ring $H^{\infty}$ of bounded analytic functions in the unit disk. $C_0$ is such a class and is the central object of study in this book.A contraction operator belongs to $C_0$ if and only if the associated functional calculus on $H^{\infty}$ has a nontrivial kernel. $C_0$ was discovered by Bela Sz.-Nagy and Ciprian Foias in their work on canonical models for contraction operators on Hilbert space. Besides their intrinsic interest and direct applications, operators of class $C_0$ are very helpful in constructing examples and counterexamples in other branches of operator theory. In addition, $C_0$ arises in certain problems of control and realization theory. In this survey work, the author provides a unified and concise presentation of a subject that was covered in many articles. The book describes the classification theory of $C_0$ and relates this class to other subjects such as general dilation theory, stochastic realization, representations of convolution algebras, and Fredholm theory. This book should be of interest to operator theorists as well as theoretical engineers interested in the applications of operator theory. In an effort to make the book as self-contained as possible, the author gives an introduction to the theory of dilations and functional models for contraction operators. Prerequisites for this book are a course in functional analysis and an acquaintance with the theory of Hardy spaces in the unit disk. In addition, knowledge of the trace class of operators is necessary in the chapter on weak contractions.

Book Synopsis Infinite-dimensional Analysis: Operators In Hilbert Space; Stochastic Calculus Via Representations, And Duality Theory by : Palle Jorgensen
Download or read book Infinite-dimensional Analysis: Operators In Hilbert Space; Stochastic Calculus Via Representations, And Duality Theory written by Palle Jorgensen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2021-01-15 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to make available to beginning graduate students, and to others, some core areas of analysis which serve as prerequisites for new developments in pure and applied areas. We begin with a presentation (Chapters 1 and 2) of a selection of topics from the theory of operators in Hilbert space, algebras of operators, and their corresponding spectral theory. This is a systematic presentation of interrelated topics from infinite-dimensional and non-commutative analysis; again, with view to applications. Chapter 3 covers a study of representations of the canonical commutation relations (CCRs); with emphasis on the requirements of infinite-dimensional calculus of variations, often referred to as Ito and Malliavin calculus, Chapters 4-6. This further connects to key areas in quantum physics.
