In den Medien finden sich zahlreiche Berichte über die potenziellen Auswirkungen der Digitalisierung. Ihr werden Risiken und Chancen zugerechnet. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass der technologischer Wandel, speziell industrielle Wandlungsprozesse, einen großen Einfluss auf die Beschäftigungsentwicklung ausüben werden. Im Zuge der Digitalisierung sind weitreichende Wandlungsprozesse zu erwarten, die in gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen münden und eine Vielzahl an Problemstellungen hervorbringen. Klar ist, dass die Digitalisierung das Arbeits- und Privatleben verändert. In dieser Arbeit werden industrielle Wandlungsprozesse im Rahmen der Industrie 4.0 und deren potenzieller Einfluss auf die Substitution von Arbeitsplätzen beleuchtet. Der erste Abschnitt der Arbeit stellt die theoretische Grundlage zur Analyse von soziotechnischen Wandlungsprozessen vor. Im Weiteren wird die Wirkungsreichweite von Technologien innerhalb der Gesellschaft aufgezeigt. Im Anschluss erfolgt eine Definition der Begriffe "Industrie 4.0" und "Digitalisierung". Der erste Abschnitt endet mit dem Konzept der disruptiven Innovation, da disruptive Prozesse ebenfalls soziotechnische Wandlungsprozesse anstoßen können und somit berücksichtigt werden müssen. Der zweite Abschnitt beschäftigt sich mit industriellen Wandlungsprozessen. Als theoretische Grundlage hierfür dient das Scientific Management nach Taylor. Das erste Kapitel beleuchtet das Scientific Management und dessen Einfluss auf industrielle Produktionsprozesse. Daraufhin werden gegenwärtige industrielle Wandlungsprozesse im Rahmen der Industrie 4.0 aufgezeigt, das Kapitel handelt von Wandlungsprozessen in der Produktion und im Vertrieb. Im Anschluss werden die Prinzipien des Scientific Managements aus der Perspektive von gegenwärtigen Wandlungsprozessen beleuchtet. Das dritte Kapitel diskutiert die Substitution von Arbeitsplätzen. Hierbei wird auf eine von Osborne und Frey im Jahr 2013 veröffentlichte Studie und die damit verbundene Diskussion eingegangen. Anschließend wird auf aktuelle Studien zur Substitution von Arbeitsplätzen in Deutschland Bezug genommen.

Moreover, the recent ascendance of international industrial networks, which dominate the sectors in which less developed countries have in the past had considerable success, implies a further limitation on the potential role of industrial policies as traditionally understood. Overall, there appears to be little empirical support for an activist government policy even though market failures exist that can, in principle, justify the use of industrial policy.
