Book Synopsis Pricing Decisions in the Euro Area by : Silvia Fabiani
Download or read book Pricing Decisions in the Euro Area written by Silvia Fabiani and published by OUP USA. This book was released on 2007-06-25 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book collects results from ad hoc surveys on firms pricing behavior conducted in 2003 and 2004 by nine National central banks of the Euro area in the context of a joint research project (Eurosystem Inflation Persistence Network). These surveys have proved to be an efficient way to test theories on the pricing strategies of economic agents, documenting, in qualitative terms, the underlying rationale of the observed pricing patterns. The book provides an unprecedented amount of information from more than 11,000 euro area firms, addressing issues such as the relevance of nominal and real rigidities, the information set used by firms in the price setting process, the strategy followed to review prices, the frequency of both price reviews and price changes, the reasons underlying price stickiness, and asymmetries in price adjustment. It also compares results for the euro area to those obtained for other countries by similar studies. Finally, it draws the main implications for theoretical modeling and for monetary policy.

Book Synopsis Objective Economics by : M. Northrup Buechner
Download or read book Objective Economics written by M. Northrup Buechner and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2011 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every price is set by someone; this is where economics begins. Building on that fundamental idea and on Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism, Objective Economics transforms economics. The thesis of this book is that Ayn Rand's concept of "objective" is the indispensible base of valid economic thought. Consistently applying this idea across the board, the author reaches a general theory of price for the first time in the history of economic thought. This theory of price then provides a valid base for explaining how a free economy functions. Based on facts everyone knows, presented without graphs or higher mathematics, Objective Economics makes accessible to the intelligent layman a clear understanding of how the economy works. For everyone who found college economics impenetrable--and that is just about everyone--this is the book. The thesis of Objective Economics changes everything about economics, including economics' method, the conception of the economy, the meaning of competition, the idea of price, the nature of business costs, the concept of supply, the concept of demand, the law of supply and demand, the theory of price, and the theory of total national output. Overall, as the result of all the preceding, Objective Economics demonstrates that capitalism is the practical economic system.
Book Synopsis Pricing Decisions in Small Business by : W. Warren Haynes
Download or read book Pricing Decisions in Small Business written by W. Warren Haynes and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 2015-01-13 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These studies, which originated from research on approximately 100 firms earned on at the University of Kentucky under a grant from the Small Business Administration, are an empirical examination of decision making in the small firm. The practices revealed by the investigation have been analyzed within the theoretic framework of managerial economics. The studies make suggestions for improvements that take into account the limited resources of small firms. A third study, Investment Decisions in Small Business by Martin B. Solomon, will be published at a later date. Pricing Decisions in Small Business points out that pricing is more flexible but that competition is more limited than economists have assumed. Though he already makes some adjustment of prices according to the market, the businessman could profit from greater flexibility in his thinking, especially in the consideration of relative changes in costs and revenues.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Contemporary Behavioral Economics by : Morris Altman
Download or read book Handbook of Contemporary Behavioral Economics written by Morris Altman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-01-30 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At a time when both scholars and the public demand explanations and answers to key economic problems that conventional approaches have failed to resolve, this groundbreaking handbook of original works by leading behavioral economists offers the first comprehensive articulation of behavioral economics theory. Borrowing from the findings of psychologists, sociologists, political scientists, legal scholars, and biologists, among others, behavioral economists find that intelligent individuals often tend not to behave as effectively or efficiently in their economic decisions as long held by conventional wisdom. The manner in which individuals actually do behave critically depends on psychological, institutional, cultural, and even biological considerations. "Handbook of Contemporary Behavioral Economics" includes coverage of such critical areas as the Economic Agent, Context and Modeling, Decision Making, Experiments and Implications, Labor Issues, Household and Family Issues, Life and Death, Taxation, Ethical Investment and Tipping, and Behavioral Law and Macroeconomics. Each contribution includes an extensive bibliography.
Book Synopsis Economic Theory by : M.A. van Meerhaeghe
Download or read book Economic Theory written by M.A. van Meerhaeghe and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The content of this book formed part of an introduction to economics. Weidenfeld and Nicolson published an english translation in 1971: Econ- ics. A critical approach. Since several colleagues thought that the critical comments on various theories might discourage students, I divided this introduction into two parts. Were as the first part deals with economic theory as such, the present publication contains the subject matter of the second part, namely the former appraisal sections. The first edition benefited from comment by Professor P. Hennipman, who, although I took his comment into consideration as far as possible, did not always share my views. The appendix to the first edition (Economic Doctrines) has been omitted. I have used brief portions of it in a new chapter, 'Economic doctrines and economic policy'. I have added a chapter entitled 'Economic theory and economic policy' and brought up to date the other chapters. This book has no intention of instructing fellow economists. It is intended as a complement to an introductory course on economics, which for the most part does not deal systematically with (or is even totally lacking in) critical comments. Many economists consider any criticism of economic theory to be a form of lese-majeste. On the other hand, a critical approach should not be the monopoly of left-wing authors.

Currently, however, prices and promotions often encourage selection of foods that undermine healthy diets. To address this challenge, and to support Member States in implementing policy measures, as recommended by the Framework for Action from the 2014 Second International Conference on Nutrition, the World Health Organization (WHO) is in the process of developing evidence-informed policy guidelines on the food environment, including fiscal and pricing policies. This review on contextual factors to be considered in the implementation of fiscal and pricing policies was prepared as part of the required process for WHO guideline development.

Book Synopsis Rivalrous Consonance: A Theory of General Oligopolistic Equilibrium by : R.E. Kuenne
Download or read book Rivalrous Consonance: A Theory of General Oligopolistic Equilibrium written by R.E. Kuenne and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is an attempt to construct frameworks for the analysis of oligopoly which combine both the rivalrous and cooperative elements in the market structure of mature oligopolistic industries. It provides an alternative approach to those of game theory and conjectural variation, and does so in a fashion that permits: - the development of a general equilibrium framework that incorporates oligolopy - operational analysis of pricing policies in oligolopy - the tailoring of the analytical framework to the specifics of an industry within the context of multiobjective decision making. The book stresses the need for economic theory to move away from the search for universal theorems concerning oligopolistic behaviour, and to develop a body of specific industry analyses using ``simulative theorizing''.
Download or read book Theory of the Firm written by H. Albach and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has an objective and a focus. It provides the reader with: • an in-depth acquaintance with the theory of the firm developed by Erich Gutenberg • an insight into a coherent body of current German research in the theory of the firm. The book is divided into two parts. The first part lays the foundations. It presents Gutenberg's theory of the firm to the English speaking reader. Considering the great importance that Erich Gutenberg has had in Germany and taking into consideration the impact that the translations of his path-breaking three volumes "Principles of Management" have had in France, the Spanish speaking countries, and in Japan, it was felt that it was necessary, on the occasion of his tOOth anniversary, to present a concise summary of his contributions to the theory of the firm to an English speaking scientific community. Six papers present Gutenberg's theory in the light of the theoretical advances that he stimulated as well as in the framework of other theoretical developments like capital market theory, transaction cost theory, principal agent theory, and contract theory. The papers show that Gutenberg's theory is highly relevant for theory and highly influential in the practice of management.

Book Synopsis Pricing Theory in Post-Keynesian Economics by : Paul Downward
Download or read book Pricing Theory in Post-Keynesian Economics written by Paul Downward and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This timely book explores the defining features of post Keynesian economics through an examination of pricing, and empirically investigates pricing behaviour from the post Keynesian point of view. It uses a synthesis of ideas from realist philosophy and methodology to explore post Keynesian pricing theory and identifies a coherent core of post Keynesian pricing theory, strongly supported by a wide range of evidence. Paul Downward critically reviews and extends both the econometric and the non-econometric evidence as a basis of understanding the causal processes of pricing. Taking into account Keynes's notions of the 'weight of evidence' and 'negative analogy, ' the post Keynesian account of pricing offered in the book appears compelling. The evidence presented by the author will raise substantial questions about neoclassical accounts of pricing. This book will be required reading for those interested in post Keynesian economics, methodology, behavioural economics and institutional economics as well as for marketing and management theorists and those generally interested in pricing decisions.
