Book excerpt: “A sustainable forest ecosystem must be our aim of forest management, one in which all flora and fauna, including human beings, can live in perfect and balanced harmony with the whole of nature.” In today’s fast-changing world, forest management needs to gear up to respond to the present-day needs with the priority of modern scientific management over conventional classic management, participatory management over forest enforcement, conservation forestry over production forestry, private tree enterprise and liberalization over government control, and professional management over general management in Tamil Nadu, India. Forest Management herein has introduced the best principle of sustainably managing the forest by strictly avoiding all ecologically harmful interventions, and instead, facilitate the natural course of action along with protection in Tamil Nadu. Tree growing and use in private lands need to be brought outside the purview of Tamil Nadu Forest Act 1882 for it to become a massive enterprise. A massive brown revolution based on trees is a definite possibility in this country, on the lines of green and white revolution, provided tree management is taken outside the clutches of government control.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ”Children’s Literature” always draws me to a special world. In that world, I get transformed into a child. When initially I went through Kavimamani’s children’s poems in Tamil, I admired them. Entering into the exclusive world of children I recognized the wisdom hidden behind them, They are admirable humorous and arouse our admiration. While going through these poems the thought that struck me was that these poems are not only for enjoyment, but contain the art of living. Each poemteaches life’s understanding. Modern children have psychological problems.,the stress they undergo in their education both school and college due to the compulsion of the parents to get first rank and from their peers and the thrust put on them to become master in every aspect have all resulted in their violent behaviour are some of the aspects covered in the poems on ancient wisdom which are relevant for today’s circumstances was a great revelation to me. My daughter, being a young mother always shares the problems of her daughter’s upbringing. Taking cue from these poems I always tender my advice to her and I feel that this information should be shared to other mothers also who can benefit for the upbringing of their children.. Cultural degradation and forgotton traditional values are the causes for the bane in the Indian society which can be corrected through absorbing the finer points outlined in these poems. We have absorbed the lifestyle of our elders. But somewhere, we failed to impart the same tour children and insist on them to lead lives as the elders did, Hence this generation is at crossroads, more confused than ever. By reading the entire volume of Kavimamani Ilayavan’s poems a clarity dawned on me as to how the parents should bring up their wards... There is a vast change in the lifestyle of yester years and that which we live today. The parents are at the crossroads caught between tradition and modernity. These poems through sufficient light on the balance that has to be made in the upbringing of the children. Reading of the book has been a very pleasurable and delightful experience. The entire book seems to be a mirror reflection of my thoughts. When I reflect I long “Oh God! How soon I have grown up! It would have been nice to live the life of a child all over again, When I see the children pranking around me and interact with them, I am living of Kavimamani Ilayavan’s ‘Children’s Literary Poems’ and experience those precious moments.

Book Synopsis India in the 21st Century by : Mira Kamdar
Download or read book India in the 21st Century written by Mira Kamdar and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2018-04-04 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India is fast overtaking China to become the most populous country on Earth. By mid-century, its 1.7 billion people will live in what is projected to become the world's second-largest economy after China. While a democracy and an open society compared to China, assertive Hindu nationalism is posing new challenges to India's democratic freedoms and institutions at a time when illiberal democracies and autocratic leaders are on the rise worldwide. How India's destiny plays out in the coming decades will matter deeply to a world where the West's influence in shaping the 21st century will decline as that of these two Asian giants and other emerging economies in Africa and Latin America rise. In India in the 21st Century, Mira Kamdar, a former member of the New York Times Editorial Board and an award-winning author, offers readers an introduction to India today in all its complexity. In a concise question-and-answer format, Kamdar addresses India's history, including its ancient civilization and kingdoms; its religious plurality; its colonial legacy and independence movement; the political and social structures in place today; its rapidly growing economy and financial system; India's place in the geopolitical landscape of the 21st century; the challenge to India posed by climate change and dwindling global resources; wealth concentration and stark social inequalities; the rise of big data and robotics; the role of social media and more. She explores India's contradictions and complications, while celebrating the merging of India's multicultural landscape and deep artistic and intellectual heritage with the Information Age and the expansion of mass media. With clarity and balance, Kamdar brings her in-depth knowledge of India and eloquent writing style to bear in this focused and incisive addition to Oxford's highly successful What Everyone Needs to Know series.

Book Synopsis Rajam Krishnan and Indian Feminist Hermeneutics by : Sarada Thallam
Download or read book Rajam Krishnan and Indian Feminist Hermeneutics written by Sarada Thallam and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 155 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book interprets the feminist theories of Rajam Krishnan, a doyen of Tamil literature, who has been a forerunner of many contemporary ideologies. The text provides the much-needed tools for the vast corpus of contemporary research in the global domain of Indian women’s literature. To interpret literature with non-native theoretical models may not be dispensed as an erroneous fallacy, but the fact remains that there prevails an oft-felt, unarticulated need for our own native theories which may imbue a greater elucidation of our culture, ethos, epistemes and practices.
