Book excerpt: Ten hours, nine heroes, five heart shots, three abductions, two widows, and one fatherless son. The prequel to the Paths Crossed series is unknowingly conceived when a door prize, the first book in this series, is won by the widow of fallen Michigan Trooper Dugald Pellot. This chance draw would lead the widow to the book's author. Over coffee, she would share with Edwards a scrapbook she had created for their son so he would know of the tragic event that had claimed his father's life. This paths crossed would spark long-retired Michigan State Police Detective Lieutenant Clif Edwards, author of the Paths Crossed series, to research his coldest case ever; the two-state terror of September 30, 1957. During his reconstruction of those ten hours, he uncovers fascinating information leading to and following that fateful day. From 1957, when the author was but 2-years old, he then leaps ahead in time to the year 2019 when he confronts the last man standing from the five shoot-outs that left two troopers dead. Blending investigative and narrative acumen, Edwards vividly reveals a nationwide crime wave, and the courage of eight officers while standing in harm's way.

Book excerpt: "On a raw February morning in 1977, Indianapolis police radio frequencies crackle with the first acts of what was to become a bizarre and frightening, three-day-long psychodrama. A man named Tony Kiritsis had wired a shotgun to the back of Richard Hall's head. In a type of manic march, Kiritsis nudged a shoved Hall from his downtown Indianapolis office over piles of snow on midtown streets. Kiritsis was belligerent. hall's throat was bound and it appeared as through the harness device strapped to the shotgun might choke him. Kirtisis fingered the trigger with his right hand as he held the barrel in his left, prodding Hall. It was cold. Both men were in shirtsleeves. Citizens and police were simply stunned by what they saw. The cursing and screaming Kirtisis commandeered a police car and sped off to the west. Something was about to change in American media coverage, and forever in the life of Richard Hall. For three days his angry, ranting captor threatened to kill him as radio, television, wire service and newspaper reporters covered every turn of event. We have waited for decades to hear more of the story Richard Hall now shares his singular experience of being the victim of an historic act of terror that seized the world's attention and ushered the media into an unpredictable new world"--Back cover.
Download or read book One Deadly Night written by John Glatt and published by St. Martin's Paperbacks. This book was released on 2007-04-01 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On September 28, 2000, former Indiana State Trooper David Camm made a frantic call to his former colleagues in the state troopers office: He'd just walked into his garage, and found lying on the floor the bodies of his 35-year-old wife, Kim, and their two children, Brad and Jill, ages 7 and 5. This was the kind of crime that could tear the heart out of a community. The Camm's lived the American Dream. They had what seemed like a loving marriage, a nice little house with a white picket fence, and two adorable children. To top it all off, David Camm was a pillar of the community who had dedicated his career to the enforcement of the law and the sanctity of human life. Then, this happened. Three days later, it got worse when police arrested David Camm for the triple murder. Soon, new stories started emerging: stories about mistresses and violent bursts of temper. And as the ugly truth about the Camms' marriage got uglier and the evidence against David started piling up, two families-and the community at large-took positions at opposite sides of a yawning and bitter divide. Was David Camm a dedicated, conscientious public servant-the victim of unspeakable tragedy, railroaded by an unfair system? Or was he a cold-hearted murderer who earned his three murder convictions and every one of the 195 years behind bars to which he was sentenced? Investigative journalist John Glatt finds out in this gripping new book.

Earl Taggart was born and raised in New Castle, Indiana; after graduating from Chrysler High School Earl joined the Army in December of 1965 and was assigned to the army artillery. He was discharged in December of 1968 after obtaining the rank of sergeant E-5. Upon returning to Indiana, Earl worked a short time at Delco-Remy in Anderson and it was during this time that Earl applied to The Indiana State Police. Earl was accepted to the State Police Academy in February 1970 and was assigned to the Seymour District upon his graduation in April of 1970. After completing his probationary period he started his State Police career in Jennings County. During Earl's career with the State Police he worked as a road trooper, a narcotics detective, and finally a district detective. Earl successfully completed numerous specialized training courses during his tenure as well as teaching investigation classes in drug enforcement, criminal investigations, and hostage negotiations. Earl was a team leader for the State Hostage Negotiation Team and the State Police Crises Intervention Team. Earl retired from the Indiana State Police in December of 1998. In November of 1998 Earl was elected as Sherriff of Jennings County and served in office for 8 years. These short stories are a collaboration of different events that occurred during his law enforcement career; some humorous, some terrifying, and some unbelievably sad. -The youngest was 3 years old. She was just too young to give any details. I got to thinking about the tattoo on him. I went to the prosecutor for a search warrant to examine his body. It was several weeks before I could locate him. He came in with his attorney. -I noticed that the glass from the door was on top of the blood. So if someone broke in, the glass should be on the floor, and the blood on top of the glass. The scene was staged; she was already dead when the door was broken open. -I forgot to tell Bill of the curve, we hit it and slid! Bill grabbed the dash with both hands and held on for life (when I traded that car there were eight fingers pressed into the dash). Each story has you rolling through your emotions like you were there in living person, you wont want to put it down!

Download or read book Indiana Notary Public Guide written by Indiana Secretary of State and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-04-06 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A notary is a public official responsible for independently verifying signatures and oaths. Depending on how a document is written, a notarization serves to affirm the identity of a signer and the fact that they personally executed their signature. A notarization, or notarial act, officially documents the identity of a party to a document or transaction and the occasion of the signing that others can rely upon, usually at face value. A notary's authentication is intended to be reliable, to avoid the inconvenience of having to locate a signer to have them personally verify their signature, as well as to document the execution of a document perhaps long after the lifetime of the signer and the notary. An oath is a sworn statement. In most cases a person will swear that a written statement, oral statement, or testimony they are about to give is true. A notary can document that the notary administered an oath to an individual.
