Download or read book What America Did For India'S Independence written by M. N. Gulati and published by . This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India Was Not Alone In Its Fight Against British Imperialism And Colonialism. Far From It, Hitler'S Germany Was Always At Hand To Extend Moral And Material Support. It Is Agreed That The Official Policy Of The Administration Followed A Roller-Coaster Track In Support Of India, There Is No Denying The Fact That The American Congress, Public And The Media, Print As Well As Electronic, Went Out Of Its Way To Render Political, Moral And Financial Support. The Book Covers The American Aspect Fairly Comprehensively, It Follows Two Extremes: It Is Either Excessively Pro-American And The American Support Is Eulogized To No End, Or It Goes In The Opposite Directions In As Much As It Runs Down The Positive Facet Of American Contribution Besides Imputing Derogatory Motives In Some Cases. And Both Sides Lack In Integrating The Indian Political Point Of View And Events, And Their Impact On The International Scene. The Chinese Moral And Political Support For The Cause Of Indian Freedom Was Most Valuable, And Often Came At Crucial Points Of Time. And That Holds Good For The Japanese, Burmese, French, German And The Soviet Union Too.

Book Synopsis India's Revolution; Gandhi and the Quit India Movement by : Francis G. Hutchins
Download or read book India's Revolution; Gandhi and the Quit India Movement written by Francis G. Hutchins and published by Cambridge : Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1973 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gandhi's Quit India Movement of 1942 was the climax of a nationalist revolutionary movement which sought independence on India's own terms. Indian independence was attained through revolution, not through a benevolent grant from the British imperial regime. "The British left India because Indians had made it impossible for them to stay." The bases for Francis Hutchins' thesis are new facts from hitherto unused sources: interviews with surviving participants in the movement, private papers from the Gandhi Memorial Museum and the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library, documents in the National Archives of India. In particular, he has studied the secret records of the British government, recently made available, which reveal for the first time the extent of the revolutionary movement and Britain's plans for dealing with it. Of the British records Hutchins says, "No other regime has left such careful documentation of its strategies or compiled such extensive records revealing the way in which it was overthrown." Even though England had always proclaimed its hope that India would one day become independent, the tacit assumption was that this was a remote eventuality. Only after Gandhi's Quit India Movement did Britain's political parties resign themselves to the necessity to leave quickly, whether or not they believed India was "ready." Obscured by censorship in India and by preoccupation with World War II, the significance of Gandhi's revolutionary technique was not appreciated at the time. Hutchins' impressive analysis uses the Indian case to develop a general theory of the revolutionary nature of colonial nationalism.

Book Synopsis Revolutionary Movements in Latin America by : Cynthia McClintock
Download or read book Revolutionary Movements in Latin America written by Cynthia McClintock and published by US Institute of Peace Press. This book was released on 1998 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why were El Salvador's FMLN and Peru's Shining Path able to mount such serious revolutionary challenges in the 1980s and early 1990s? And why were they able to do so despite the fact that their countries' elected governments were widely considered democratic? These two guerrilla groups were very different, but both came close to success. To explain why, the author examines the complex interplay among political and economic factors, the nature of the revolutionary organization, and international actors. McClintock emphasizes that the end of the Cold War does not mean the end of revolutionary groups, and that the United States can play an important role in determining the outcome of future confrontations. The book concludes with practical policy options for the U.S. government as it looks to foster peace and democracy in the western hemisphere.
