Book Synopsis Indian Multinationals in the World Economy by : Jaya Prakash Pradhan
Download or read book Indian Multinationals in the World Economy written by Jaya Prakash Pradhan and published by Bookwell Publisher. This book was released on 2008 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Indian multinationals have been active in the world economy since early 1960s. However, their number and scale of operation have grown significantly in the last fifteen years or so. In the face of increasing global competition unleashed by extensive liberalization measures, Indian firms have adopted the strategy of outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) as an integral part of their business strategies. By undertaking greenfield OFDI and brownfield OFDI for acquiring foreign companies, Indian firms are enhancing their potential for growth and global competitiveness. Consequently India has emerged as a major developing source country of FDI and Indian multinationals are likely to affect world development in several ways. The book analyses the phenomenon of Indian multinationals from both macro level factors and firm-level corporate strategies and examines its implications for India and host countries. A detailed investigation of Indian overseas investment flows and stocks from sectoral, regional, ownership and motivational perspectives provides a rigorous long-run coverage of Indian multinational firms from 1970s onwards. The role of innovation, entrepreneurial skills, scale of business, productivity, and the role of government policies, received critical attention in explaining the emergence of Indian multinationals. The comprehensive quantitative and case studies approach offers valuable insights into the behaviour and impacts of these new global actors on home and host countries. This book offers a number of lessons to home country, host countries, and Indian enterprises becoming multinationals. With the growing global interest from policy makers, business practitioners, researchers, and students in Indian multinationals, this book would serve as an important and timely reading for all of them.

Book Synopsis Legal Protection of Foreign Direct Investment. A Critical Assessment with Focus on South Africa and Zimbabwe by : Talkmore Chidede
Download or read book Legal Protection of Foreign Direct Investment. A Critical Assessment with Focus on South Africa and Zimbabwe written by Talkmore Chidede and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2016-09 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study undertakes a critical assessment of the legal protection of foreign direct investments (FDI) in South Africa and Zimbabwe by determining their compliance with the international minimum standards, norms and/or best practices on the legal protection of FDI by host states. Firstly, the study argues that foreign investment is much needed in South Africa and Zimbabwe to improve economic growth and development, to create jobs, and to increase their competitiveness. However, these benefits are not accrued automatically but rather host states need to create an enabling environment to receive such benefits. Thus, host states need to put an investment scheme into operation to guarantee the legal protection of foreign investments. South Africa and Zimbabwe have at large crafted and implemented investment laws and related policies which tend to be hostile towards foreign investments. Therefore, similar investment laws and related policies in both jurisdictions are analysed. This study will also offer recommendations for a legal investment which is not only flexible, friendly, and favourable to foreign investment in South Africa and Zimbabwe but also advances their local economic policies.

Book Synopsis The Chinese and Indian Corporate Economies by : Raj Brown
Download or read book The Chinese and Indian Corporate Economies written by Raj Brown and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-02-03 with total page 490 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a compelling analysis of the corporate economies of China and India, which are having a huge impact not just on the international economy, but also in the geopolitical and international strategy sphere as a result of an accelerated globalisation by these two countries, which is unleashing powerful economic challenges to corporate structures, economic institutions and law worldwide. The big question is how after centuries of underdevelopment China and now India are emerging powerfully and pulling ahead of Western European economies. Analysing the role of the state and the adroit use of law, and their impact on the corporate evolution of both China and India, provides greater clarity and insight into why China has evolved as a manufacturing nation utilizing cheap abundant labour while India has not exploited such advantages but instead focused on IT and higher value industries, even abroad as Tata has demonstrated in the motor industry in Europe. Again while Chinese corporations have expanded abroad as an arm of the state into Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America and parts of the southern states of the USA, India has pushed principally into Europe through the efforts of powerful minority capitalists of Parsi and Gujerati background, overcoming technological gaps and differences through acquisitions and absorptions of existing corporations in particular industries, especially in steel, automobiles and textiles. In China, state owned corporations have been dominant. In India, though state owned enterprises have been powerful since 1951, it has been private capitalists with an established stronghold since the colonial period and even under the Socialist period from 1951-1991 who have been the more productive main actors both in India and abroad.

This book was released on 2024-07-22 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Warehouse receipts systems (WRS) have been used to tackle multiple challenges faced by farmers. In the absence of adequate collateral and consequent credit constraints, a WRS enables the use of inventory as collateral for loans, thus removing a key constraint farmers face. With growing digital reach, electronic based Negotiable Warehouse Receipts (e-NWR) that can be swapped, exchanged and traded and can assist in deepening financial markets while maintaining the integrity of the system. While e-NWRS can potentially address farmer level constraints, they can also be viewed from a larger policy perspective as a system that aids government plans for food security and manage public procurement operations better and more nimbly; it can also play a key role for enhancing the efficiency and food quality and safety along value chains by enabling mid-stream players like traders and importers to manage these chains better. This report seeks to inform the policy process around e-NWRS by focusing on the potential of Ware house Receipt Financing, more broadly, in the agricultural development of Bangladesh. To do this we review global evidence as well as evidence closer to home, within South Asia, to understand the pre-conditions and prerequisites for a successful system.
