Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Derived from the renowned multi-volume International Encyclopaedia of Laws, this concise exposition and analysis of the essential elements of law with regard to family relations, marital property, and succession to estates in Japan covers the legal rules and customs pertaining to the intertwined civic status of persons, the family, and property. After an informative general introduction, the book proceeds to an in-depth discussion of the sources and instruments of family and succession law, the authorities that adjudicate and administer the laws, and issues surrounding the person as a legal entity and the legal disposition of property among family members. Such matters as nationality, domicile, and residence; marriage, divorce, and cohabitation; adoption and guardianship; succession and inter vivos arrangements; and the acquisition and administration of estates are all treated to a degree of depth that will prove useful in nearly any situation likely to arise in legal practice. The book is primarily designed to assist lawyers who find themselves having to apply rules of international private law or otherwise handling cases connected with Japan. It will also be of great value to students and practitioners as a quick guide and easy-to-use practical resource in the field, and especially to academicians and researchers engaged in comparative studies by providing the necessary, basic material of family and succession law.

Book Synopsis Eating Behavior and Chronic Diseases: Research Evidence from Population Studies by : Fei Xu
Download or read book Eating Behavior and Chronic Diseases: Research Evidence from Population Studies written by Fei Xu and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-07-29 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eating behavior is a major lifestyle-related influencing factor of non-communicable chronic diseases (NCDs), particularly overweight/obesity, and metabolism syndrome (MetS). Typically, eating behavior refers not only to dietary patterns but also to nutrient intake. From the public health perspective, population-based evidence regarding healthy eating is of significance for policy developments regarding NCDs prevention. Eating behavior is time and economic status dependent, which may change as age or/and socio-economic status changes. This occurs not only in developing societies but also in economically settled communities. Therefore, although relationships between eating behaviors (dietary pattern, nutrients intake) and specific NCDs have been examined in different societies, further investigations of population-level associations between eating behavior and NCDs in different subpopulations (general community residents, elders/children, or patients, etc), especially the interaction of eating behavior and other influences (e.g., physical activity) on NCDs, remains of continuing importance. Meanwhile, updating the dietary patterns and nutrient intake levels of different subpopulations is also necessary.
Book Synopsis Walkable Neighborhoods by : Koichiro Oka
Download or read book Walkable Neighborhoods written by Koichiro Oka and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-01-09 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is now widely recognized that individual-based motivational interventions alone are not sufficient to address the global pandemic of physical inactivity (lack of exercise and too much sitting time). There has been a growing interest in the effect the physically built environment can have on people’s active behaviors. The fundamental assumption is that surrounding physical environments can support active behaviors among a large number of people with long-term effects. This topic has received much attention over the last decade, mainly in the three fields of urban design, public health, and transportation. This Special Issue aims to provide multidisciplinary and evidence-based state-of-the-art research on how the locations where people live impact their active behaviors and health outcomes.

This phenomenon, called ‘glocalisation’ since the 1990s, poses many challenges to people and to the social structures in which they operate.
Book Synopsis Women and Martial Art in Japan by : Kate Sylvester
Download or read book Women and Martial Art in Japan written by Kate Sylvester and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-11-30 with total page 161 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, based on extensive original research, examines the practice by women in a university sport setting of kendo, the Japanese martial art which, using bamboo swords as well as protective armour, and descended from traditional swordsmanship, instils in its practitioners, besides physical skills, societal values of etiquette and resilience as well connecting them to a “traditional” outlook, which includes a gendered cultural identity. The book therefore illustrates an unexplored example of identity construction in Japan, one which legitimises women’s sport experiences within a male-centric physical culture, unpacks the notion of “tradition” in kendo and unravels its stultifying control over women’s kendo participation, and discusses the androgenicity of women’s participation to highlight its subversive potential to develop women as leaders in sport, politics, and other fields which continue to be very male dominated in Japan.
