Book Synopsis Fragments A.K.A. Incomplete Thoughts by : Zakee Howze
Download or read book Fragments A.K.A. Incomplete Thoughts written by Zakee Howze and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-09-28 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written during a time of a recession in my country. I am a few days away from being a bastard case. My father bailed out on me and my mother. I fell in love with doing crimes at the age of 12. I caught my first felony at 15. I have a lot of stories to tell from first hand. I stripped myself away from blessing at an early age. You can see some of my childhood achievements at www.google.com and search for Zakee Howze. I have good friends that were murdered or had to go before the creator because of their reasons. I started feeling like nobody loved me. Actually some people did stop loving me. You the man when have the money, but what about being a good person? That doesn’t matter to a lot of people anymore. One thing I learned is that when materialistic items are stripped away from people you will see nothing but their true character. I had to write this book because I witnessed too many people who do not control their own life.
Book Synopsis Essays in Psychology by : William James
Download or read book Essays in Psychology written by William James and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1983 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The twenty-nine articles, essays, and reviews in this volume, collected here for the first time, were published by William James over a long span of years, from 1878 (twelve years prior to The Principles of Psychology) to 1906. Some are theoretical; others examine specific psychological phenomena or report the results of experiments James had conducted. Written for the most part for a scholarly rather than a popular audience, they exhibit James's characteristic lucidity and persuasiveness, and they reveal the roots and development of his view on a wide range of psychological issues. As William R. Woodward notes in his Introduction, these essays "bring the reader closer to James's sources, thereby illuminating his indebtedness to tradition as well as his creative departure from it."
Book Synopsis Reinforcement Learning, second edition by : Richard S. Sutton
Download or read book Reinforcement Learning, second edition written by Richard S. Sutton and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The significantly expanded and updated new edition of a widely used text on reinforcement learning, one of the most active research areas in artificial intelligence. Reinforcement learning, one of the most active research areas in artificial intelligence, is a computational approach to learning whereby an agent tries to maximize the total amount of reward it receives while interacting with a complex, uncertain environment. In Reinforcement Learning, Richard Sutton and Andrew Barto provide a clear and simple account of the field's key ideas and algorithms. This second edition has been significantly expanded and updated, presenting new topics and updating coverage of other topics. Like the first edition, this second edition focuses on core online learning algorithms, with the more mathematical material set off in shaded boxes. Part I covers as much of reinforcement learning as possible without going beyond the tabular case for which exact solutions can be found. Many algorithms presented in this part are new to the second edition, including UCB, Expected Sarsa, and Double Learning. Part II extends these ideas to function approximation, with new sections on such topics as artificial neural networks and the Fourier basis, and offers expanded treatment of off-policy learning and policy-gradient methods. Part III has new chapters on reinforcement learning's relationships to psychology and neuroscience, as well as an updated case-studies chapter including AlphaGo and AlphaGo Zero, Atari game playing, and IBM Watson's wagering strategy. The final chapter discusses the future societal impacts of reinforcement learning.
Book Synopsis One Minds' Book of Incomplete Thoughts by : Ruby Koevort
Download or read book One Minds' Book of Incomplete Thoughts written by Ruby Koevort and published by Ruby Koevort. This book was released on 2018-09-08 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Life. A magical space of wonder. A gift of endless possibilities. Life itself, an incomplete thought. We busy ourselves with endless tasks and self-induced responsibilities. Never fully reaching a definitive conclusion to our purpose. The wholeness of physical presence is far too vast. No one method, or path, truly holds the infinite layers of our existence. It is always incomplete. This is validated by our ill designed, self imposed, state of 'living'. Even after we depart, a part of us lingers. We set forth on some unknown adventure that one can only speculate. Contained. Uncontained. Always as creation itself. Incomplete and ready for the next piece. All of my work feels like there is more. Never quite the whole picture. Always yearning to be expanded upon. Perhaps that is the point. To be fully complete would defeat the purpose of a life, that in it's essence, is experiential and in continual expansion. So, with this in mind, I have put together the following passages. Not as the beginning, nor as the end of contemplation, but as the interludes to incomplete thoughts. Always room to try and find a beginning or propose an end. No more or less than One Minds' Book of Incomplete Thoughts. Wonderfully Incomplete in itself... Ruby Koevort

Book Synopsis Incomplete Thoughts by : Mary Jo Magar
Download or read book Incomplete Thoughts written by Mary Jo Magar and published by Vantage Press. This book was released on 1988-06-01 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt:
Download or read book Incomplete written by Alix Beeston and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This field-defining collection establishes unfinished film projects--abandoned, interrupted, lost, or open-ended--as rich and underappreciated resources for feminist film and media studies. In deeply researched and creatively conceived chapters, scholars join with film practitioners in approaching the unfinished film as an ideal site for revealing the lived experiences, practical conditions, and institutional realities of women's film production across historical periods and national borders. Incomplete recovers projects and practices marginalized in film industries and scholarship alike, while also showing how feminist filmmakers have cultivated incompletion as an aesthetic strategy. Objects of loss and of possibility, incomplete films raise profound historiographical and ethical questions about the always unfinished project of film history, film spectatorship, and film studies.
Book Synopsis A Theory of the Aphorism by : Andrew Hui
Download or read book A Theory of the Aphorism written by Andrew Hui and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aphorisms-- or philosophical short sayings--appear everywhere, from Confucius to Twitter, the Buddha to the Bible, Heraclitus to Nietzsche. Yet despite this ubiquity, the aphorism is the least studied literary form. What are its origins? How did it develop? How do religious or philosophical movements arise from the enigmatic sayings of charismatic leaders? And why do some of our most celebrated modern philosophers use aphoristic fragments to convey their deepest ideas? In A Theory of the Aphorism, Andrew Hui crisscrosses histories and cultures to answer these questions and more. With clarity and precision, Hui demonstrates how aphorisms-- ranging from China, Greece, and biblical antiquity to the European Renaissance and nineteenth century--encompass sweeping and urgent programs of thought. Constructed as literary fragments, aphorisms open new lines of inquiry and horizons of interpretation. In this way, aphorisms have functioned as ancestors, allies, or antagonists to grand systems of philosophy. Encompassing literature, philology, and philosophy, the history of the book and the history of reading, A Theory of the Aphorism invites us to reflect anew on what it means to think deeply about this pithiest of literary forms.
Book Synopsis Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time by : Sheila Beverly
Download or read book Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time written by Sheila Beverly and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-12-08 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reviews “Sheila Beverly’s new workbook, Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time, is a promising tool for helping students who struggle with writing. Mrs. Beverly, who holds a B.A. in English and an M. Ed. In reading education, has years of experience teaching students to write. At first, her innovative ‘Grammar Bubble’ appears to be a part-to-whole approach to teaching writing. But, in truth, she uses direct teaching of the eight parts of speech as an entry point – a conceptual structure and motivational “hook” to get hesitant writers to put their ideas down on paper. Then, Mrs. Beverly uses a workshop, collaborative model to keep her students writing – drafting, sharing, revising, and editing. It is obvious that much thinking, trying out, and improving has gone into the activities described in this workbook. It is also obvious from reading the revealing Preface that Mrs. Beverly is a committed educator who is passionate about empowering her students to express their voices in print.” - Dr. Darrell Morris, Professor of Reading Education, 2016-2017 Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award; Director of Anderson Reading Clinic Department of Reading Education & Special Education, Emeritus Faculty, Appalachian State University “This workbook, containing resources and supplemental activities, along with the Grammar Bubble Manipulative Toy, games, charts, and lessons, has been Divinely orchestrated and blessed. Adults and children will learn and understand the Eight Parts of Speech and how to utilize this knowledge to become better communicators. Teachers will benefit tremendously. This information will give them a fresh approach on how to introduce writing using the Eight Parts of Speech. This hands-on approach will help make writing fun and more meaningful.” - Linda Beverly, BS of Elementary School Education, Primary Reading Teacher, Retired-34 Years of Experience “Written communication skills remain a vital asset in our increasing technological world. I had the privilege of working with Shelia for many years and can attest to her dedication in helping her students’ written voices to shine on paper. Her passion now extends to assisting teachers who also recognize the importance of writing. Shelia Beverly’s Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time provides a framework for teachers to cultivate a community of strong writers and shares engaging activities to help students acquire essential language skills. Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time is a valuable addition to a teacher’s classroom.” - Teri G. Lewis, BA English, MEd of Reading; English Department Chair, Retired I wish I had Rethinking Writing One Word at a Time – Eights Parts of Speech when I was teaching in the classroom. Finally, a workbook that really breaks down grammar and writing in a way that builds and makes sense to the teacher and the learner. The “Grammar Bubble Manipulative Toy”, games, writing prompts, and more are great for emerging writers and those who need a writing refresher. It is interactive and thought provoking. This workbook could benefit anyone who desires to grow in their writing journey by starting with “Rethinking Writing.” - Dr. Renita L. Webb, Ph.D. Educational Leadership Strategist; Former Elementary School Principal; Former Middle/High School English Teacher

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sketch is a window into the architects mind. As creative designers, architects are interested in how other architects, particularly successful ones, think through the use of drawings to approach their work. Historically designers have sought inspiration for their own work through an insight into the minds and workings of people they often regard as geniuses. This collection of sketches aims to provide this insight. Here for the first time, a wide range of world famous architects' sketches from the Renaissance to the present day can be seen in a single volume. The sketches have been selected to represent the concepts or philosophies of the key movements in architecture in order to develop an overall picture of the role of the sketch in the development of architecture. The book illustrates the work of designers as diverse as Andrea Palladio, Erich Mendelsohn, Sir Edwin Lutyens, Gianlorenzo Bernini, Le Corbusier, Michelangelo, Alvar Aalto, Sir John Soane, Francesco Borromini, Walter Gropius, and contemporary architects Tadao Ando, Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry to name but a few. Each chronologically placed sketch is accompanied by text providing details about the architect’s life, a look at the sketch in context, and the connection to specific buildings where appropriate. Style, media and meaning are also discussed, developing an explanation of the architect’s thinking and intentions. As creative designers themselves, architects are interested in how other architects, particularly successful ones, think and draw and approach their work. Historically designers have sought inspiration for their own work through an insight into the minds and workings of people they often regard as geniuses. This collection of sketches aims to provide this insight. Listed chronologically each sketch will be accompanied by a text which provides: A short synopsis/history of the architect's life; a look at the sketch in this context; the connection to a specific building (where appropriate); techniques of the sketch: style and media; meaning - what the sketch shows about the architect's thinking and intentions followed by a select bibliography for each section.

Book Synopsis Escape From Hell by : Alfréd Wetzler
Download or read book Escape From Hell written by Alfréd Wetzler and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2007-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Alfred Wetzler was a true hero. His escape from Auschwitz, and the report he helped compile, telling for the first time the truth about the camp as a place of mass murder, led directly to saving the lives of 120,000 Jews: the Jews of Budapest who were about to be deported to their deaths. No other single act in the Second World War saved so many Jews from the fate that Hitler and the SS had determined for them. This book tells Wetzler's story." - Sir Martin Gilbert "Wetzler is a master at evoking the universe of Auschwitz, and especially, his and Vrba's harrowing flight to Slovakia. The day-by-day account of the tremendous difficulties the pair faced after the Nazis had called off their search of the camp and its surroundings is both riveting and heart wrenching. ...] Shining vibrantly through the pages of the memoir are the tenacity and valor of two young men, who sought to inform the world about the greatest outrage ever committed by humans against their fellow humans." - From Introduction by Dr Robert Rozett] Together with another young Slovak Jew, both of them deported in 1942, the author succeeded in escaping from the notorious death camp in the spring of 1944. There were some very few successful escapes from Auschwitz during the war, but it was these two who smuggled out the damning evidence - a ground plan of the camp, constructional details of the gas chambers and crematoriums and, most convincingly, a label from a canister of Cyclone gas. The present book is cast in the form of a novel to allow factual information not personally collected by the two fugitives, but provided for them by a handful of reliable friends, to be included. Nothing, however, has been invented. It is a shocking account of Nazi genocide and of the inhuman conditions in the camp, but equally shocking is the initial disbelief the fugitive's revelations met with after their return. Ewald Osers has translated over 150 books and received many translation prizes and honours.
