This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Joint Meeting comprisIng the 3rd International Symposium on Clathrate Compounds and Molecular Inclusion Phenomena and the 2nd International Symposium on Cyclodextrins was held on 23-27 July, 1984, in Tokyo, Japan. It was organized by the Japan Association for Inclusion Chemistry together with the International Organization Committee, with the auspices of sixteen societies and associations in Japan. This event was the first joint meeting with the hope of unifying the above two symposia. The program of the symposium consisted of 142 papers, including 14 invited papers. The invited papers and some selected topics were presented verbally, and all the other 118 papers were displayed in poster sessions. The symposium was held at Hoshi University in Tokyo. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the subjects treated, the scope and subjects were grouped into two parts. In the first group, the chemistry of cyclodextrins, synthetic organic hosts, inorganic and metal complex hosts and layered hosts were treated. In the second group applications in various fields, biomimetic aspects, physicochemical aspects, selectivity, stereo-specificity and other aspects were discussed. The scientific sessions were carried out in a really vivid atmosphere. The number of participants viz 50 from 19 overseas countries and 253 domestic partici pants exceeded our expectation.

Book Synopsis Stimulating Concepts in Chemistry by : Fritz Vögtle
Download or read book Stimulating Concepts in Chemistry written by Fritz Vögtle and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fresh ideas have always been a necessary ingredient for progress in chemistry. Without a continuous supply of stimulating ideas from creative researchers, there would be no new insights into the subject. But what are some of the ideas that pervade modern chemistry? The answer to this question is to be found in "Stimulating Concepts in Chemistry". In a collection of 24 essays, a group of leading researchers provides an overview of the most recent developments in their fields. Readers can find out about modern concepts in chemistry such as self-assembly, nanochemistry, and molecular machines. Moreover, many spectacular advances have been achieved from the fusion of chemistry with life and materials science - a development which is illustrated by contributions on enzyme mimics, molecular wires, and chemical sensors. Further, the essayists write about new nanomaterials, efficient methods in synthesis, and big biomolecules - indeed, many of the topics that have dominated some of the recent discussions in chemistry. This outstanding text makes use of a special layout to reflect the editors' aim of presenting concepts in the form of essays. Thus, the book is not merely another source of knowledge but is intended to stimulate readers to develop their own ideas and concepts. This format should help to make the book interesting to a wide range of scientists. Students of chemistry will benefit from the different style of presentation of their subject, while researchers in industry and academia will welcome the exciting way in which some of the most challenging concepts in modern chemistry are presented.

Book Synopsis Chemosensors of Ion and Molecule Recognition by : J.P. Desvergne
Download or read book Chemosensors of Ion and Molecule Recognition written by J.P. Desvergne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the broad field of supramolecular chemistry, the design and hence the use of chemosensors for ion and molecule recognition have developed at an extroardinary rate. This imaginative and creative area which involves the interface of different disciplines, e.g. organic and inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry, biology, medicine, environmental science, is not only fundamental in nature. It is also clear that progress is most rewarding for several new sensor applications deriving from the specific signal delivered by the analyte-probe interaction. Indeed, if calcium sensing in real time for biological purposes is actually possible, owing to the emergence of efficient fluorescent receptors, other elements can also be specifically detected, identified and finally titrated using tailored chemosensors. Pollutants such as heavy metals or radionuclides are among the main targets since their detection and removal could be envisioned at very low concentrations with, in addition, sensors displaying specific and strong complexing abilities. Besides, various species of biological interest (or others, the list is large) including sugars and other micellaneous molecules such as oxygen and carbon dioxide can be actually probed with optodes and similar devices. The present volume in which the key lectures of the workshop are collected gives a survey of the main developments in the field. The success of the workshop mainly came from the high quality of the lectures, the invited short talks, the two posters sessions and the many very lively discussions which without doubt will produce positive outcomes.
