Download or read book Traffic Reviews for Operational Efficiency written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the material presented herein is to establish a step-by-step approach to identify traffic operational inefficiencies. Using the suggested approach should produce a uniform review process that can be conducted on a continuing basis at a frequency deemed appropriate by the conducting agency. Determination of precise solutions to eliminate or lessen identified problems will usually require further analysis. Suggestions in this regard are given in the "Additional Procedures" section.

Book Synopsis Freeway Corridor Management by : Conrad L. Dudek
Download or read book Freeway Corridor Management written by Conrad L. Dudek and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1992 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to state and local traffic engineers, transportation planners, transit operators, law enforcement officials, public information agencies, and others responsible for the transportation elements of freeway corridors. Information is provided on the policies and procedures for freeway corridor management, and descriptions of a number of techniques and practices are presented. Traffic growth and increasing congestion on urban freeways require a comprehensive approach toward managing the complex elements of freeway operations. This report of the Transportation Research Board provides information on freeway corridor management strategies, the components of management, examples of effective applications of the strategies, and benefits of freeway corridor management. The management techniques that are discussed include freeway surveillance and control; corridor street surveillance and control; high-occupancy vehicle facilities and incentives; police enforcement and traffic control; hazardous material and other truck traffic restrictions; alternative route planning; motorist assistance patrols; motorist information techniques; and traffic management for recurrent congestion, for incidents, for special events, and for work zones.

Book Synopsis Equilibrium and Advanced Transportation Modelling by : P. Marcotte
Download or read book Equilibrium and Advanced Transportation Modelling written by P. Marcotte and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Each chapter in Equilibrium and Advanced Transportation Modelling develops a topic from basic concepts to the state-of-the-art, and beyond. All chapters relate to aspects of network equilibrium. Chapter One advocates the use of simulation models for the representation of traffic flow movements at the microscopic level. Chapter Two presents travel demand systems for generating trip matrices from activity-based models, taking into account the entire daily schedule of network users. Chapter Three examines equilibrium strategic choices adopted by the passengers of a congested transit system, carefully addressing line selection at boarding and transfer nodes. Chapter Four provides a critical appraisal of the traditional process that consists in sequentially performing the tasks of trip generation, trip distribution, mode split and assignment, and its impact on the practice of transportation planning. Chapter Five gives an insightful overview of stochastic assignment models, both in the static and dynamic cases. Chapters Six and Seven investigate the setting of tolls to improve traffic flow conditions in a congested transportation network. Chapter Eight provides a unifying framework for the analysis of multicriteria assignment models. In this chapter, available algorithms are summarized and an econometric perspective on the estimation of heterogeneous preferences is given. Chapter Nine surveys the use of hyperpaths in operations research and proposes a new paradigm of equilibrium in a capacitated network, with an application to transit assignment. Chapter Ten analyzes the transient states of a system moving towards equilibrium, using the mathematical framework of projected dynamical systems. Chapter Eleven discusses an in-depth survey of algorithms for solving shortest path problems, which are pervasive to any equilibrium algorithm. The chapter devotes special attention to the computation of dynamic shortest paths and to shortest hyperpaths. The final chapter considers operations research tools for reducing traffic congestion, in particular introducing an algorithm for solving a signal-setting problem formulated as a bilevel program.
Book Synopsis Neural Network Model for Automatic Traffic Incident Detection by : Hojjat Adeli
Download or read book Neural Network Model for Automatic Traffic Incident Detection written by Hojjat Adeli and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Automatic freeway incident detection is an important component of advanced transportation management systems (ATMS) that provides information for emergency relief and traffic control and management purposes. In this research, a multi-paradigm intelligent system approach and several innovative algorithms were developed for solution of the freeway traffic incident detection problem employing advanced signal processing, pattern recognition, and classification techniques. The methodology effectively integrates fuzzy, wavelet, and neural computing techniques to improve reliability and robustness.
