Book excerpt: This report recommends improvements to two areas of patent law policies affecting how well a patent gives notice to the public of what technology is protected and remedies for patent infringement. The report provides valuable insights on how courts can reform the patent system to best serve consumers. It recognizes that patents play a critical role in encouraging innovation, but it also observes that some strategies by patent holders risk distorting competition and deterring innovation. This is especially true for activity driven by poor patent notice, and by remedies that do not align the compensation received by patent holders for infringement with the economic value of their patented inventions. This is a print on demand report.

Book excerpt: Marketing Research, 13th Edition presents a clear and comprehensive introduction to the field, with a strong focus on methodologies and the role of market research in strategic decision making. Employing a unique macro-micro-macro approach, the text begins with a broad overview of market research and its place within—and value to—an organization, before zooming in to detail the granular view of the research process. Step-by-step explanations cover the latest methodologies and current practices, highlighting advanced techniques as well as their limitations and potential benefits, followed by a high-level discussion of research applications. An emphasis on real-world processes is underscored by end-of-chapter cases, allowing students to apply what they’ve learned in the context of real-life examples covering a broad range of products and organizations. This practical approach promotes engagement while building essential critical analysis, interpretation, and decision-making skills, preparing students to recognize potential research applications, alternatives where they exist, and the quality of research at hand. By pulling together market intelligence, strategy, theory, and application, this text helps students build a deep understanding while retaining the big picture perspective.

Book Synopsis Business Process Management by : Wil M.P. van der Aalst
Download or read book Business Process Management written by Wil M.P. van der Aalst and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-08-18 with total page 482 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Business Process Management (BPM 2005), organized by LORIA in Nancy, France, September 5–8, 2005. This year, BPM included several innovations with respect to previous e- tions, most notably the addition of an industrial program and of co-located workshops. This was the logical result of the signi?cant (and still growing) - dustrial interest in the area and of the broadening of the research communities working on BPM topics. The interest in business process management (and in the BPM conference) was demonstrated by the quantity and quality of the paper submissions. We received over 176 contributions from 31 countries, accepting 25 of them as full papers (20 research papers and 5 industrial papers) while 17 contributions were accepted as short papers. In addition to the regular, industry, and short pres- tations invited lectures weregiven by Frank Leymannand Gustavo Alonso. This combination of research papers, industrial papers, keynotes, and workshops, all of very high quality, has shown that BPM has become a mature conference and the main venue for researchers and practitioners in this area. We would like to thank the members of the Program Committee and the reviewers for their e?orts in selecting the papers. They helped us compile an excellent scienti?c program. For the di?cult task of selecting the 25 best papers (14% acceptance rate) and 17 short papers each paper was reviewed by at least three reviewers (except some out-of-scope papers).
