Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An acclaimed expert in Christian mysticism travels to monasteries high in the Troodos Mountains of Cyprus and offers a fascinating look at the Greek Orthodox approach to spirituality that will appeal to modern seekers. In an engaging combination of dialogues, reflections, conversations, history, and travel information, Kyriacos C. Markides continues the exploration of a spiritual tradition and practice he began in Riding with the Lion. His earlier book took readers to the isolated peninsula of Mount Athos in northern Greece and into a group of ancient monasteries. There, in what might be called a “Christian Tibet,” two thousand monks and hermits practice the spiritual arts to attain oneness with God. In his new book, Markides follows Father Maximos, one of Mount Athos’s monks, to the troubled island of Cyprus. As Father Maximos establishes churches, convents, and monasteries in this deeply divided land, Markides is awakened anew to the magnificent spirituality of the Greek Orthodox Church. Images of the land and the people of Cyprus and details of its tragic history enrich The Mountain of Silence. Like the writings of the great mystics, the book brilliantly evokes the confluence of an inner and outer journey. The depth and richness of its spiritual message echo the thoughts and writings of Saint Francis of Assisi and other great saints of the Western Church as well. The result is a remarkable work–a moving, profoundly human examination of the role and the power of spirituality in a complex and confusing world.

Book Synopsis Esotheric themes in theology by : Róbert Sarka
Download or read book Esotheric themes in theology written by Róbert Sarka and published by EDUCatt - Ente per il diritto allo studio universitario dell'Università Cattolica. This book was released on 2015-05-31 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Church opened itself to a dialogue, which became its communication tool with the world, with other Christian denominations and religions. At the end of the 19th century, so called new religious movements and new magical movements started to appear, which are still currently expanding. Is it possible to lead a dialogue with new religious movements (NRM)?1 A dialogue is an inseparable part of the Church’s mission, therefore neither can the NRM be excluded. However, to have a dialogue with them, the correct preparation is needed, because a great variability exists amongst the NRM. In this dialogue, it is also necessary to take into account the risks from the side of the NRM’s participants, who may try to abuse it for their own promotion, e.g. as happened when some of the NRM’s participants showed photographs from a general audience with the pope, or photographs with Mother Theresa, as proof of a support of their activities. Another form of abuse can be the publishing of their own doctrines in the Catholic Publishing Houses. The statements of some forms of NRM, concerning the possibility of double memberships, thus actually remaining as a member of the Catholic Church, but at the same time being a disciple of some occult community, are also of a great danger2. It is necessary to think about these pitfalls during the dialogue. The dialogue should also not be detached from the proclamation; in this case it is about keeping fidelity to the Catholic faith. I would also like to stick to this criterion in the submitted monograph about esoteric themes in theology. Excerpt from the Introduction
Book Synopsis The Gospel & the Zodiac by : Bill Darlison
Download or read book The Gospel & the Zodiac written by Bill Darlison and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2008-02-14 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Darlison elucidates the zodiac’s significant place in the Gospels, most specifically in the Book of Mark . . . An intriguing leap into faith” (Kirkus Reviews). For millennia the world has been driven by the differences between the great patriarchal religions. Western civilization—or Christendom, as it was once called—received its values and its confidence from a belief in God, the Father, and Jesus, his only son. But what if this conviction were founded on an error? Who is the man in the factually inconsistent Gospel stories? And who is the man who makes a brief appearance carrying a jar of water? This extraordinary study by a Unitarian minister suggests that Jesus never existed historically; he was simply a representation of an astrological theology—a representation, simply put, of the zodiac sign of Aquarius. In The Gospel & the Zodiac, Rev. Bill Darlison demonstrates that all the other signs are present too, in perfect zodiacal order. The Gospel story is not the product of historians or eyewitnesses, but an older, mystical text produced by an ancient, esoteric school as a guide to the Age of Pisces. Every bit as revelatory and controversial as it sounds, The Gospel & the Zodiac will shake up the religious status quo, and in doing so, provide both a new look at a religious icon and a deeper understanding of the faith that binds millions together. “Darlison begins by looking at different scholarly approaches to the gospels, then outlines his astrological interpretation logically and lucidly, matching the zodiacal signs to the narrative of Mark.” —Fortean Times
Book Synopsis The Secret Code of the King James Bible by : Abdullahi Mubarak
Download or read book The Secret Code of the King James Bible written by Abdullahi Mubarak and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-12-07 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, I believe, for the first time reveals knowledge that has been buried in the Bible under a secret code. There have been many attempts to uncover this code, and all previous attempts have contributed in a positive way to this writing. The book is my personal contribution to improvement of mankind through the acknowledgment of the truth and the defeat of falsehood. I am not, though, writing this with rose-colored glasses. There will always be those who hate the Truth for personal worldly gains, those who take comfort in falsehood, those who would follow blindly what their ancestors believed (true or false), those who worship at the altar of their base desires, and those who benefit from evil in the world. The ultimate victory of Truth over falsehood is with God Almighty, and I wish that the reader is guided to the Truth. This book is also a way to thank God Almighty for guiding me away from falsehood, and this book is for others like me.

Book Synopsis Different Visions of Love by : Brian Griffith
Download or read book Different Visions of Love written by Brian Griffith and published by Brian Griffith. This book was released on 2008 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Griffiths narrative moves like a searchlight over each phase of church history, illuminating the visions, options, and choices behind events. He traces the rise of a dominator version of Christianity, in which the primary concern was a chain of command to be followed, with rewards or punishments according to the degree of obedience. And beside this he illuminates another face of Christianity, concerned with healing all divisions between loved and unloved people. The story Griffith presents is often deeply disturbing, as in his unstinting accounts concerning the gospel for women , or the age of holy wars and witch hunts. But ultimately his story offers solid grounds for optimism. He shows that all contention between different religious visions can be a process of building partnership. As Griffith points out, Jesus himself wished to debate his opponents openly, not to silence or eliminate them. He was not afraid of real encounter, or the potential of creative conflict.I want to congratulate Brian Griffith on this masterful, controversial, and highly readable account. His book offers hope in a divided world, where reaction against globalized godless corporate secularism meets with a war on religious fundamentalism . I hope to see other writers do comparable work in highlighting the partnership and dominator visions within their religious traditions around the world. Riane Eisler, author of The Chalice & the Blade, Sacred Pleasure, Tomorrows Children, The Power of Partnership, The Real Wealth of Nations"I find it gives me an incredibly clarifying perspective on Christianity way beyond my previous understanding. It should be read by everyone with an interest in Western Civilization. It is a marvelous companion to The Great Turning." David Korten, author of The Great Turning: From Empire to Earth Community

Book Synopsis Shiva and the Primordial Tradition by : Alain Daniélou
Download or read book Shiva and the Primordial Tradition written by Alain Daniélou and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2006-11-10 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An extensive examination of the underpinnings of the Shaivite Tradition • Reveals the influence of Shaivism on the Western world • Discusses Shaivism’s understanding of sacred sexuality • Presents the connections between Vedic poetry and metaphysics In Shiva and the Primordial Tradition, Alain Daniélou explores the relationship between Shaivism and the Western world. Shaivite philosophy does not oppose theology, cosmology, and science because it recognizes that their common aim is to seek to understand and explain the nature of the world. In the Western world, the idea of bridging the divide between science and religion is just beginning to touch the edges of mainstream thought. This rare collection of the late author’s writings contains several never-before-published articles and offers an in-depth look at the many facets of the Samkhya, the cosmologic doctrines of the Shaivite tradition. Daniélou provides important revelations on subjects such as the science of dreams, the role of poetry and sexuality in the sacred, the personality of the great Shankara, and the Shaivite influence on the Scythians and the Parthians (and by extension, the Hellenic world in general). Providing a convincing argument in favor of the polytheistic approach, he explains that monotheism is merely the deification of individualism--the separation of humanity from nature--and that by acknowledging the sacred in everything, we can recognize the imprint of the primordial tradition.
Book Synopsis Gnosis of the Cosmic Christ by : Malachi (Tau)
Download or read book Gnosis of the Cosmic Christ written by Malachi (Tau) and published by Flux. This book was released on 2005 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stunning revelations about the mysteries of creation, the soul, and God The noble idea of the Christian Kabbalah is not so much the worship of Jesus Christ, but rather a conscious evolution toward a divine or super-humanity. In this regard, Christian Kabbalah is quite different from its Jewish roots, and Gnostic Christianity is very different from orthodox Christianity. Both are about experiencing God and evolving toward God, rather than just studying theology. This groundbreaking work is the first to present the Christian Gnosis of the Kabbalah in a practical and deeply esoteric way. It takes the reader from the basic ideas of the Kabbalah to in-depth explorations of the Tree of Life. Gnostic legends and myths of the Holy Mother, St. Lazarus, St. Mary Magdalene, and Jesus are woven into the study of the Holy Sefirot as well as commentaries on the Ten Commandments and The Beatitudes of the Sermon on the Mount.
