Book Synopsis House of Commons - Public Administration Select Committee: Trith to Power: How Civil Service Reforem Can Succeed - HC 74 by : Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee
Download or read book House of Commons - Public Administration Select Committee: Trith to Power: How Civil Service Reforem Can Succeed - HC 74 written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Public Administration Select Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-09-06 with total page 364 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Public Administration Select Committee (PASC) has concluded a year-long inquiry into the future of the Civil Service with only one recommendation: that Parliament should establish a Joint Committee of both Houses to sit as a Commission on the future of the Civil Service. It should be constituted within the next few months and report before the end of the Parliament with a comprehensive change programme for Whitehall with a timetable to be implemented over the lifetime of the next Parliament. The Report considers the increased tensions between ministers and officials which have become widely reported, and places the problems in Whitehall in a wider context of a Civil Service built on the Northcote-Trevelyan settlement established in 1853 and the Haldane principles of ministerial accountability set out in 1919. The government's Civil Service Reform Plan lacks strategic coherence and clear leadership from a united team of ministers and officials. The Northcote-Trevelyan Civil Service remains the most effective way of supporting the democratically elected Government and future administrations in the UK. Divided leadership and confused accountabilities in Whitehall have led to problems: a low level of engagement amongst civil servants in some departments and agencies, and a general lack of trust and openness; the Civil Service exhibits the key characteristics of a failing organisation with the leadership are in denial about the scale of the challenge they face. There is a persistent lack of key skills and capabilities across Whitehall and an unacceptably high level of churn of lead officials, which is incompatible with good government.

Book Synopsis The Coach Factor - An Asian Story of Turnaround through a Corporate Coaching Culture by : Charlie Lang
Download or read book The Coach Factor - An Asian Story of Turnaround through a Corporate Coaching Culture written by Charlie Lang and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-08-16 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The majority of companies today face the challenge of low engagement and high staff turnover, especially of top talents. Any economic downturn usually compounds such challenges, causing already weakened companies to eventually fail. Also, stronger companies face the challenge of still being stuck with the success paradigms of the past Industrial Age when their business is already in the new Information or Knowledge Worker Age. Managers today need to realize that major changes, especially in their corporate culture and leadership style are necessary if they want to build sustainable success for the near and longer term. This book will help the reader understand these dynamics in an Asian business environment and illustrate what they can do to deal successfully with the challenges of the New Age. It's written in a novel style and therefore promises to be an entertaining and at the same time informative read.
Download or read book The Piffles of Pope written by John Dole and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003-03-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Piffles of Pope is the lighthearted story of ne'r-do-well Kelvin Pope, 64, living off inherited money in Los Angeles, collecting art, and pursuing a self-oriented existence behind the back of his lonely and frustrated wife, Penelope. Kelvin meets Lorilee, a 28 year-old redhead who perfectly fulfills his sexual fantasies, but blocks his adulterous advances at every turn. Suspicious Penelope cooks up a plan to expose her wayward husband, leading to comic complications involving a Private Investigator impersonating a lecherous Mexican art dealer and a librarian who was once a female bodybuilder. Thrown off his lustful obsession by a startling discovery about Lorilee, Kelvin embarks on a mad pursuit of the identity of the portrait of a mysterious woman on Lorilee's bungalow wall. His wild chase veers from Canada to Mexico, involving him in a series of ordeals including midnight grave robbing and the fury of a vengeful witch. His serendipitous misadventures lead to a frenzied climax, an emotional roller coaster for all the characters, reminiscent of A Comedy of Errors.
