Book Synopsis Environmental Corrosion-fatigue Behavior of Aluminum Alloys by : D. N. Williams
Download or read book Environmental Corrosion-fatigue Behavior of Aluminum Alloys written by D. N. Williams and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of environment on fatigue behavior are quite intimately related to such test variables as stress intensity, cyclic frequency, and temperature. The effect of these variables has been shown to be quite complex. However, a consistent pattern of behavior is beginning to emerge which, it is hoped, will lead to a considerably changed understanding of the corrosion-fatigue process. It is considered probable that an increased understanding of the corrosion-fatigue process will also contribute measureably to an improved understanding of general fatigue processes. Material variables such as composition, directionality of properties, and microstructure, have important effects on corrosion-fatigue behavior of aluminum alloys. However, it appears that these variables, at least in gaseous environments, may be important largely because of their effects on the mechanical behavior of aluminum alloys. On the other hand, studies in seawater suggest that these variables become increasingly important as the corrosive nature of the environment increases. This memorandum discusses in detail the effects of both test variables and material variables on corrosion fatigue. In addition, current theories of corrosion-fatigue mechanisms are outlined, and several methods of preventing corrosion fatigue are suggested. (Author).

Download or read book Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys written by Edward Ghali and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-05-05 with total page 744 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Valuable information on corrosion fundamentals and applications of aluminum and magnesium Aluminum and magnesium alloys are receiving increased attention due to their light weight, abundance, and resistance to corrosion. In particular, when used in automobile manufacturing, these alloys promise reduced car weights, lower fuel consumption, and resulting environmental benefits. Meeting the need for a single source on this subject, Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys gives scientists, engineers, and students a one-stop reference for understanding both the corrosion fundamentals and applications relevant to these important light metals. Written by a world leader in the field, the text considers corrosion phenomena for the two metals in a systematic and parallel fashion. The coverage includes: The essentials of corrosion for aqueous, high temperature corrosion, and active-passive behavior of aluminum and magnesium alloys The performance and corrosion forms of aluminum alloys The performance and corrosion forms of magnesium alloys Corrosion prevention methods such as coatings for aluminum and magnesium Electrochemical methods of corrosion investigation and their application to aluminum and magnesium alloys Offering case studies and detailed references, Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum and Magnesium Alloys provides an essential, up-to-date resource for graduate-level study, as well as a working reference for professionals using aluminum, magnesium, and their alloys.

Book Synopsis Turbojet Engine Noise Reduction with Mixing Nozzle-ejector Combinations by : Willard D. Coles
Download or read book Turbojet Engine Noise Reduction with Mixing Nozzle-ejector Combinations written by Willard D. Coles and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 652 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several noise suppressors consisting of combinations of mixing nozzles and ejectors were tested on two full-scale turbojet engines. Maximum sound pressure level reductions of 12 decibels and sound power level reductions of 8 decibels were obtained. The ejectors provided 3 to 5 decibels of the sound power reduction. The effects of ejector dimensions on noise suppression and engine performance were investigated. Ejector lengths of approximately 2.0 standard nozzle diameters and ejector diameters larger than 1.6 standard nozzle diameters provided the greatest additional noise reduction to that obtained with the mixing nozzles alone. The ejector can restore the static thrust loss caused by use of the mixing nozzle or can provide static-thrust augmentation.
