Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether it is politics, journalism or literature the most talked about topic today is undoubtedly corruption. This book deals with it throughout. Each page of Bleeding Mountains of Nepal is a ghastly tale of how the country is run by people whose unsaturated greed and avarice for power and perks and their dereliction of duty may be unmatched by anyone anywhere in the world. The book is a verification of how national resources, funds and revenue, foreign loans and assistance are pillaged, pilfered, plundered, abducted, swindled, embezzled, robbed, looted and predated by the very bottom to the top level in the government machinery and also by those outside the government. The whole book is a document of how the country is being fleeced, milked and wrenched at all times by the insiders, outsiders, donor agencies and the NGOs. It speaks of Nepal and its teeming millions squirming below the poverty line, forever exploited. It is a story of Nepals failed development of the last fifty yearsthe tears behind the smilethe smile that does not reach the eyes. It is particularly helpful to those who want to write, study and research on corruption and mismanagement in Nepal.

Book excerpt: Understanding World Media Understanding World Media sets out to mirror world media and the freedom it enjoyed across the globe in about 200 countries. While media is an important part of academic research, concerns have been raised globally on its content, intent and freedom of expression. To the extent that even as per the data compiled by Reporters Without Borders, democratic India ranks below par at 138 in the World Press Freedom Index 2018 out of the 180 listed nations. Though, it is a question of debate and discussions to what extent media in India is considered free or under censorship. When India is emerging as a global power with over 55 percent of its population is under 35 years of age, interest in the world community and media is growing leaps and bounds. It is in this context that this book magnifies its mirror to bring facts about the status and understanding of media in the world. For any book like this, it will always have its challenges to cover subjects like media in a nutshell, but for today, this book is timely and relevant. It is a balanced and thoughtful effort to present such a comprehensive book in a crisp and concise manner, as it is difficult to get experts on various countries to write on their respective domains. We have put our utmost effort to consolidate all necessary information and analysis required for this collection and we are very hopeful that it will serve its purpose, fulfill the void and information gap about the world media. Understanding World Media is structured around two clear themes, the status of media in various countries and its freedom of expression. It is divided into five parts covering vast geographical areas in Asia, Europe, the Americas, Africa and Australia-Oceania.
Book Synopsis Indian Foreign Policy by : Priya Chacko
Download or read book Indian Foreign Policy written by Priya Chacko and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise of India as a major power has generated new interest in understanding the drivers of its foreign policy. This book argues that analysing India’s foreign and security policies as representational practices which produce India’s identity as a postcolonial nation-state helps to illuminate the conditions of possibility in which foreign policy is made. Spanning the period between 1947 and 2004, the book focuses on key moments of crisis, such as the India-China war in 1962 and the nuclear tests of 1972 and 1998, and the approach to international affairs of significant leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru. The analysis sheds new light on these key events and figures and develops a strong analytical narrative around India’s foreign policy behaviour, based on an understanding of its postcolonial identity. It is argued that a prominent facet of India’s identity is a perception that it is a civilizational-state which brings to international affairs a tradition of morality and ethical conduct derived from its civilizational heritage and the experience of its anti-colonial struggle. This notion of ‘civilizational exceptionalism’, as well as other narratives of India’s civilizational past, such as its vulnerability to invasion and conquest, have shaped the foreign policies of governments of various political hues and continue to influence a rising India.
Book Synopsis The Soils of Nepal by : Roshan Babu Ojha
Download or read book The Soils of Nepal written by Roshan Babu Ojha and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-14 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book publishes consolidated information on the soils of Nepal from all possible sources. The Survey Department, Government of Nepal, conducted two national scale soil survey projects to classify soils of Nepal (Land Resource Mapping Project ended in 1985, and National Land Use Planning Project ended in 2021). Both projects adopted the United States Department of Agriculture system of soil classification. Besides, National Soil Science Research Center (previously known as Soil Science Division) of Nepal Agricultural Research Council and Soil Management Directorate, Department of Agriculture, also worked on soils of Nepal. To date, the information on the soils of Nepal is not published in well-documented form but has been reported widely as gray literature (project report or government report) or peer-review articles. 'The Soils of Nepal’ is a part of ‘World Soils Book Series’ which constitutes twelve chapters—covering broad aspects such as soil research history, climate, geology, soil classification and mapping, and soil fertility. Furthermore, information about soil properties and relation between soil constituents of the dominant soil types of Nepal and their scope of use in the context of land use are described. This book also tries to simplify the intricate relationship among soil, culture, and people. Each chapter contains a comprehensive, richly illustrated, and up-to-date overview of the soils of Nepal. We believe it fulfils a quest for a global audience including students, educators, extension workers, and soil scientists, who are interested to know the young soils of Nepal.

Book Synopsis Parliamentary Democracy In India by : Dr Lm Singhvi
Download or read book Parliamentary Democracy In India written by Dr Lm Singhvi and published by Prabhat Prakashan. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most fundamental and far-reaching decision of India’s Constitution-makers was to establish the Indian democracy on the foundations of universal adult suffrage and on the principle of ‘one man; on vote’. The decision was an act of faith; homage to the people of India; implicit in the liberal outlook of India’s freedom struggle. The decision to adopt universal adult suffrage was simple and without controversy; but it was by all accounts momentous and revolutionary; making every adult Indian citizen irrespective of caste; sex and economic or educational qualification; a shareholder in India’s democratic enterprise. Consequent of that decision; India became the largest democracy in the world. The Indian Parliament exercises influence rather than power. Its functions lie primarily in processes of consultation and articulation and in the audit and scrutiny of the operations of the government. The substance of the power resides in the cabinet; and more particularly; in the office of the prime minister; but the sanction for that political power is provided by the representative principle embodied in the Parliament. This book was released on 2015-07-15 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developments in South Asia in the areas of democracy, political economy and security in the last couple of years are intriguing and raise questions about whether the region is on the road to transformation. The years 2013 and 2014, particularly, have been ‘years of transition’ in South Asia. Almost all South Asia countries have undergone political transitions with cascading effects. These elections are significant for South Asian countries because the region has witnessed political instability for a long period of time. The elections in South Asia generated the hope that the most un-integrated region may become interdependent after coming up of new sets of political heads. These developments in the region have an influence on India’s foreign policy and also mould its domestic politics; and vice-versa. India’s policy towards individual countries also has a decisive impact on the pace of on-going political transitions in a number of spheres: civil-military relations, foreign policy of individual countries, socio-political and economic dynamics and nature of governance. These transitions reflect the nature, behaviour and response of the transitory states towards the others. India, as an important stakeholder in the region is keenly observing these transitions in its neighbourhood. This book titled: Transitions and Interdependence: India and Its Neighbours is the outcome of serious deliberations among well known scholars, diplomats and policy makers at the Fifth Asian Relations Conference organised by the Indian Council of World Affairs in collaboration with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies in February 2014. Papers presented in the conference have been thoroughly revised before publication and the editors acknowledge with gratitude theses insightful contributions.
