Laura Williams and Jack Weiss couldn't be more different people. He's a deep-thinking computer expert; she's a personal trainer who's never considered herself smart. He can't stand sports (any sports); she loves football weekends. He’s a serious introvert; she’s happiest working with clients. His family's conservative Jewish; hers is laid-back Lutheran. The only thing they have in common is that the discovery that his wife and her fiancé have been having an affair. As the newly-single Laura rebuilds her life, she doesn't expect to see Jack ever again. She certainly doesn't expect for them to become friends. And she really doesn't expect to start noticing how attractive he is. But the two of them, together? That can't possibly work. Better to stay friends. Then one night, an unexpected kiss leads to their first steamy encounter in bed—but not their last. And now Laura's at risk of getting her heart broken again. Unless Jack's falling for her too. But surely that's impossible...

Who has not dreamed of being the guy who wins the game with a home run? And how many times have we dreamed of being rich or successful or happy in our relationships? Often we dream big and have big ambitions. Unfortunately, our dreams remain just that - dreams. And our hopes easily gather dust over time and eventually get misplaced , This is a sad turn of events in our lives. Instead of having exciting opportunities in self-actualization, we remain trapped in the monotony of everyday life But you know what? Life could be so much better if we would just learn to set higher goals for ourselves. However, as we shall see in a moment, sometimes we mistakenly get caught in a limbo ,as our mindset could be fixed to a state of absolute presupposition...and it turns out that you could be facing a farce presupposition As such, this orietation suggest hat if you are encountering an unusally tough problem in life - whether it be in business, the arts, sports, your personal life, whatever - it is because you are believing something to be an absolute presupposition which really isn't one. You believe something to be necessarily true and it isn't even true at all, never mind necessarily so. Let's look at some instances. In the Middle Ages people believed that if you sailed a ship out to the line of the horizon, where the sea and sky met, then you would fall off the edge of the planet. Why? Because they believed the Earth was flat. They could not possibly imagine that it could be otherwise because they had no knowledge of the laws of gravity and physics - a round Earth was simply inconceiveable ,this concept theory derived the most common problem with goal setting with common presupposition of the word "impossible." Most people think, "I can not do that. It's too hard. It's too impossible. No one can do it. Let the light shine upon your dreams, in the form of inspiration and optimism. Jealously and pure innocence some time surround your dreams with negativity like a mother bear guards her cubs from danger. If others put your dreams down, the absolute worst thing you could do is to agree with them. Honor your dreams no matter what, no matter how stupid or worthless others may think they are. What others think does not matter, only your own opinion counts. Holding your dreams in high regard will always keep a positive light shining upon them.

It is time for us to be brave, to claim our gifts and quirks and emotions. You are set free and set up and set on fire. NOW you can get busy doing what you were placed on this planet to do. NOW you can be honest, honest, honest about all of it, even the hard stuff, even the humiliating stuff, even the secret stuff. NOW you can walk in your convictions of faith and ask new questions unafraid. NOW you can be so free, because you are not searching for value from any source other than your own beautiful soul made piece by piece by God who adores you and is ready to get on with the business of unleashing you into this world. In this book, I break it down into five self-reflective categories—who I am, what I need, what I want, what I believe, and how I connect—and by working your way through them, you will learn to own your space, ground, and gifts (they are YOURS, sister); be strong in your relationships and lay down passive aggression, resentment, drama, and compliance; say GUILT-FREE what you want and what you need; and welcome spiritual curiosity and all the fantastic change that doing so creates. You with me, beloveds? If we do this work on our own selves now, not only will we discover a life truly worth living, but we will free our daughters to rise up behind us, with spines straight, heads up, and coated in our strength.

From that day forward, Dinah worked to support her family, remaining devoted to their welfare even in the face of despair and grinding poverty. Then one day she heard a new message, a new purpose ignited in her heart, and new life opened up before her. Book excerpt: For the first time Captain Strathmore looked down at the little girl, who was staring around her with the wondering curiosity of childhood. She was apparently about six years of age, and the picture of infantile innocence and loveliness. She was dressed with good taste, her little feet being incased in Cinderella-like slippers, while the pretty stockings and dress set off the figure to perfection. She wore a fashionable straw hat, with a gay ribbon, and indeed looked like a child of wealthy parents, who had let her out for a little jaunt along some shady avenue. When Captain Strathmore looked down upon this sweet child, a great pang went through his heart, for she was the picture of the little girl that once called him father. Her mother died while little Inez was an infant, and, as soon as the cherished one could dispense with the care of a nurse, she joined her father, the captain, and henceforth was not separated from him. She was always on ship or steamer, sharing his room and becoming the pet of every one who met her, no less from her loveliness than from her childish, winning ways. But there came one awful dark day, away out in the Pacific, when the sweet voice was hushed forever, and the rugged old captain was bowed by a grief such as that which smites the mountain-oak to the earth. The little girl who now looked up in the face of Captain Strathmore was the image of Inez, who years before had sunk to the bottom of the sea, carrying with her all the sunshine, music and loveliness that cheered her father’s heart. With an impulse he could not resist, the captain reached out his arms and the little stranger instantly ran into them.

Book excerpt: The first book from the French avant-gardist and author of Jealousy. “Robbe-Grillet is the forerunner of a revolution in the novel” (Claude Mauriac, cultural critic for Le Figaro). Alain Robbe-Grillet is internationally hailed as the chief spokesman for the nouveau roman and one of the great novelists of the twentieth century. The Erasers, his first novel, reads like a detective story but is primarily concerned with weaving and then probing a complete mixture of fact and fantasy. The narrative spans the twenty-four-hour period following a series of eight murders in eight days, presumably the work of a terrorist group. After the ninth murder, the investigation is turned over to a police agent—who may in fact be the assassin. Both an engrossing mystery and a sinister deconstruction of reality, The Erasers intrigues and unnerves with equal force as it pulls us along to its ominous conclusion. “On the surface, and surface is the key word with this author, The Erasers is a mystery story, where a police agent named Wallas stalks an unknown assassin through a nameless puzzleboard Flemish town . . . Nothing is certain. The only thing the reader can be sure of is the laser precise detail in which all that isn’t clear is described, catalogued and analyzed.” —The Millions “A haunting, mystifying evocation of a murder that will keep your attention riveted.” —The Dallas Morning News Praise for Alain Robbe-Grillet “I can think of no other writer who can render the banal so fearfully fantastic.” —Books and Bookmen “I doubt that fiction as art can any longer be seriously discussed without Robbe-Grillet.” —The New York Times

Faced with a situation that parallels that of Victor Frankenstein, Vernon must navigate his final year balancing his needs with the needs of those who depend on him, all while none of them know the reality of his dilemma. In this homage to Mary Shelley's classic story, Vernon shares the spotlight with Autumn, his optimistic and practical wife who is fighting an uphill battle with her community; Miles, the hesitant teacher who is searching for any sign of success; Eudora, the cunning principal who finds herself at a crossroads in her career; Ernie, a soul trapped in the American South who has nothing left to lose; and Janecia and Ambrose, two students whose stories are just beginning to be told. These characters are woven into a tale that pits time against memory, greatness against mediocrity, and supernatural elements against the familiar and disenchanting burdens the setting presents. I think Mr. Mahoney has tapped into a nuanced narrative position that echoes David Foster Wallace's fiction. Salute. --John Mauk

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suppose that in an emergency evacuation of a hospital after a flood, not all of the patients can make it out alive. You are the doctor faced with the choice between abandoning these patients to die alone and in pain, or injecting them with a lethal dose of drugs, without consent, so that they die peacefully. Perhaps no one will be able to blame you whatever you decide, but, whichever action you choose, you will remain burdened by guilt. What happens, in cases like this, when, no matter what you do, you are destined for moral failure? What happens when there is no available means of doing the right thing? Human life is filled with such impossible moral decisions. These choices and case studies that demonstrate them form the focus of Lisa Tessman's arresting and provocative work. Many philosophers believe that there are simply no situations in which what you morally ought to do is something that you can't do, because they think that you can't be required to do something unless it's actually in your power to do it. Despite this, real life presents us daily with situations in which we feel that we have failed morally even when no right action would have been possible. Lisa Tessman boldly argues that sometimes we feel this way because we have encountered an 'impossible moral requirement.' Drawing on philosophy, empirical psychology, and evolutionary theory, When Doing the Right Thing Is Impossible explores how and why human beings have constructed moral requirements to be binding even when they are impossible to fulfill.

Book excerpt: It is time. It is time to free our voice. To speak is a revolution. For too long, through the most intimate acts of erasure, women have been silenced. Now, women everywhere are breaking through the limits placed on us by family, society, and tradition. To find our voices. To make space for ourselves in this world. Now is the moment to reclaim what was once lost, stolen, forsaken, or abandoned. I Am Yours is about my fight to protect and free my voice from those who have sought to silence me, for the sake of creating a world where all voices are welcome and respected. Because the voice, without intimacy, will atrophy. We're in this together. You are mine, and I am yours.

Book excerpt: Proper young ladies of the ton-especially ones who have very small dowries-are not encouraged to have an interest in intellectual pursuits. Indeed, the only things they are encouraged to pursue are eligible bachelors. So, the headstrong Sloane sisters must keep their passions a secret. Ah, but secret passions are wont to lead a lady into trouble . . . After an eventful Season, Anna Sloane longs for some peace and quiet to pursue her writing. Though her plots might be full of harrowing adventure and heated passion, she'd much prefer to leave such exploits on the page rather than experience them in real life. Or so she thinks until she encounters the darkly dissolute-and gorgeously charming-Marquess of Davenport. Davenport has a reputation as a notorious rake whose only forte is wanton seduction. However the real reason he's a guest at the same remote Scottish castle has nothing to do with Anna . . . until a series of mysterious threats leave him no choice but to turn to her for help in stopping a dangerous conspiracy. As desire erupts between them, Davenport soon learns he's not the only one using a carefully crafted image to hide his true talents. And he's more than ready to show Anna that sometimes reality can be even better than her wildest imaginings . . .
