Book Synopsis We Men Who Feel Most German by : Roger Chickering
Download or read book We Men Who Feel Most German written by Roger Chickering and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-06-26 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1984 this volume presents the first systematic analysis of the cultural sources of the Pan German League’s appeal and influence in Imperial Germany. It focuses on the symbolic dimensions of the League’s literature and activities, in order to explain the attraction of the League’s aggressive ideology to certain social groups. In addition it examines the relationship between the League and other patriotic societies in Imperial Germany and analyses the processes by which the organization succeeded, on the eve of the First World War, in mobilizing a broad ‘national opposition’ to the German government. The study draws on concepts from psychology and anthropology, and its documentary foundation includes archival material from both the former East and West Germany.

Justa, o spopadih z avtohtonim prebivalstvom in o epigrafskih sledeh rimske vojske. Ostanki zgodnjerimskih taborov ponujajo nov vpogled tudi v pokrajino srednje Dalmacije. Rimska ofenzivna politika na južnem Jadranu, ob Jonskem morju in v notranjosti Balkana je analizirana na podlagi pisnih virov.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In recent years the discussion of imperialism has become so compartmentalized that it is difficult for somebody who is not directly involved to put the often polemical discussion and the various scientific and political positions forward into a relevant context. Mommsen's survey is an excellent guide."—German Studies, on the German edition. "Theories of Imperialism is the most succinct, fairest, and most sophisticated statement I have seen of the range of theories of imperialism. Each set of theorists is come at in their own terms, described fairly, and summarized fully. The book is objective, readable, and short."—Robin W. Winks, Yale University

Download or read book Discovering Imperialism written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2011-11-25 with total page 964 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of imperialism is usually associated with some of the ‘big names’ in the history of European Marxism, such as Lenin, Rosa Luxemburg, Rudolf Hilferding and Nikolai Bukharin, alongside whom the English Progressive John Hobson is usually mentioned. However, little is known about the development of Marxist theory on this subject besides the books of these figures. This volume assembles for the first time the main documents of the international debate on imperialism that took place in the Second International during the period 1898–1916. It assesses the contributions of the individual participants to the developing theory of imperialism, placing them in the context of contemporary political debates.
Book Synopsis German Colonialism by : Volker Langbehn
Download or read book German Colonialism written by Volker Langbehn and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2011-04-12 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than half a century before the mass executions of the Holocaust, Germany devastated the peoples of southwestern Africa. While colonialism might seem marginal to German history, new scholarship compares these acts to Nazi practices on the Eastern and Western fronts. With some of the most important essays from the past five years exploring the "continuity thesis," this anthology debates the links between German colonialist activities and the behavior of Germany during World War II. Some contributors argue the country's domination of southwestern Africa gave rise to perceptions of racial difference and superiority at home, building upon a nascent nationalism that blossomed into National Socialism and the Holocaust. Others remain skeptical and challenge the continuity thesis. The contributors also examine Germany's colonial past with debates over the country's identity and history and compare its colonial crimes with other European ventures. Other issues explored include the denial or marginalization of German genocide and the place of colonialism and the Holocaust within German and Israeli postwar relations.

Book Synopsis The End of Law by : William E. Scheuerman
Download or read book The End of Law written by William E. Scheuerman and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-10-18 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholarly and political interest in the work of the controversial twentieth century German thinker Carl Schmitt has exploded in the 20 years since William E. Scheuerman’s important book was first published. However, Scheuerman’s work remains distinctive. Firstly, it focuses directly on Schmitt’s complex ideas about law, situating his views within broader debates about the rule of law and its fate. The volume shows how every facet of his political thinking was decisively shaped by his legal reflections. Secondly, the volume takes Schmitt’s Nazi-era political and legal writings no less seriously. Finally, the volume offers a series of studies on figures in postwar US political thought (Friedrich Hayek and Joseph Schumpeter), demonstrating how Schmitt shaped their own influential theories. This timely second edition underscores how and why the recent growth of interest in Schmitt has been prompted by political developments, for example, debates about counterterrorism and emergency government, and the rise of authoritarian populism.
Book Synopsis Theories of International Relations by : Siegfried Schieder
Download or read book Theories of International Relations written by Siegfried Schieder and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-05-23 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a comprehensive guide to theories of International Relations (IR). Given the limitations of a paradigm-based approach, it sheds light on eighteen theories and new theoretical perspectives in IR by examining the work of key reference theorists. The chapters are all written to a common template. The introductory section provides readers with a basic understanding of the theory’s genesis by locating it within an intellectual tradition, paying particular attention to the historical and political context. The second section elaborates on the theory as formulated by the selected reference theorist. After this account of the theory’s core elements, the third section turns to theoretical variations, examining conceptual subdivisions and overlaps, further developments and internal critique. The fourth section scrutinizes the main criticisms emanating from other theoretical perspectives and highlights points of contact with recent research in IR. The fifth and final section consists of a bibliography carefully compiled to aid students’ further learning. Encompassing a broad range of mainstream, traditional theories as well as emerging and critical perspectives, this is an original and ground-breaking textbook for students of International Relations. The German edition of the book won the "Geisteswissenschaften International" Prize, collectively awarded by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the German Federal Foreign Office and the German Publishers & Booksellers Association.

Book Synopsis Bismarck and Mitteleuropa by : Bascom Barry Hayes
Download or read book Bismarck and Mitteleuropa written by Bascom Barry Hayes and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "His labors were often fruitless. His own master, Wilhelm I, and the Prussian bureaucrats, diplomats, and courtiers with direct access to this first of Bismarck's Wilhelmian nemeses could be at least as obstructionist in Berlin as Franz Joseph and his minions in Vienna. In fact, all too often Bismarck's lack of control over the Prussian elites was in part responsible for the resistance of the Habsburg ruling circle.".
